Now that I can finally post my real opinions without a bunch of mentally ill people attacking me, why is Frieren so overrated? I tried watching it during the downtime and every character is a deadpan 2cool4school archetype, in episode 8 you have 6 characters fighting and no one of them express emotions, Fern gets stabbed in the chest and she barely reacts to it, how is this fun?

It was the only good show that season.

Hyakkano was better

no, but i liked that as well

I felt like it was fine but not nearly as good as the hype implied, a 6 or 7 out of 10 unremarkable seasonal anime that new anime fans couldn't get enough of for it's flashy animations and it's almost deep themes.

The lack of substance made people come up with their own ideas about some deeper meaning it portrayed.

very well animated action
pleasant art style and music
cute and beautiful characters
serviceable story

I feel like this is this decade's FMA but worse, aka "a bunch of preteens and teens watched something besides Jump's shounen for the first time and now they think it is the best thing ever"

ritual poster calls others mentally ill

bet you're glad that half/a/ doesn't have IDs huh

idk, they must have been really immersed in it or something

Basically yeah, once again I thought it was fairly entertaining, but if you ask the average zoomer it is the best anime of all time, and I personally doubt it was the best anime of the year

It was decent but no better

Frieren as a shounen was a mistake. It would have been perfect as a seinen manga.

I'm inching ever closer in my watchthrough to that dreaded tournament arc everyone complains about, and the OP change is terrible but hasn't affected the tone of the rest of the series yet, but OP's complaint seems to be the opposite of everyone else's in that in the battle with Aura and her lieutenants they aren't screaming their opponents' names like battle shounen characters? I didn't know people liked that.

It wasn't that bad, just a change in direction for a bit, introducing more characters and the world building for Serie's organization. The important part for me is that these mages are already at the top of their game and applying for the elite position of mage, there's no scrubs.

I dont mind one character being deadpan but when every character is like that to me it feels like it is trying to hard to appeal to a younger audience that find the silent archetype the coolest thing in the world. If it was just Frieren and she had to bounce it off other charscters it would be more in line with my tastes, as it is it is like "Evangelion but everyone is Rei" type of thing

it's not awful, it's just kind of slow and has very low stakes

I'm at golden lands arc and it's so fucking ass and boring someone motivate me to read this shit

In any other situation Stark plays the boke to Fern's tsukkomi, and Sein doesn't fit your description either, so your complaint has to be that the unfeeling demons don't scream like cartoon villains for the whole fight? They do at least emote as you'd expect when things aren't going their way, however. So I'm just going to have to conclude that you in particular are delusional and find a way to filter your ritual posts.

I don't know who Sein is yet, the last episode I watched was the one where they are stuck in a cabin with a Anon Babble elf. I will just say that Slayers and Dungeon Meshi are more of my cup of tea and I will leave at at hat

you couldn't even be bothered to finish the series before making a recurring thread denouncing it your entire personality? I did add a filter but I didn't take you out of my thread watcher so now I'm gonna do that

It´s really not. Frieren is about coping with death and learning what life is all about, yes there are the big shonen moments but there are all sort of small moments in between. Little adventures like finding a golem while farming, helping repair a wagon or finding some flower. In short, it´s about the journey.

Certainly it´s not the only anime to do this but it´s fairly good at it.

it is the first time i've talked about this shit here, stop being a schizo, fuck off.

right, what even is a frieren? isn't that what americans call chips?

Now that I can finally post my real opinions without a bunch of mentally ill people attacking me

But that’s Anon Babble in a nutshell.

He's right tho. The series needs some drama but the author is really bad at doing drama. I still have faith in future chapters tho cause the author seems pretty autistic about every detail in world building. Just needs to get better at writing characters desu.

It's german for Frigid, which is a reference to her personnality.
Nearly all of the character's name is their character trait but in german:
Stark = Strong
Himmel = Heaven
Lugner = Liar
and so on

Bump

i'm not a kraut tho

every character is a deadpan

that's just part of the style.
You'll just have to accept it as part of creative liberty, the same way moe or overreactive tsukkomi are. If that's a dealbreaker for the anime then whatever, no skin off my back.

It's deadpan because the vibe of the show is supposed to be chill. It loses itself later on though when it becomes a lot more shounen.

It appeals to people that have either seen a lot of anime or very little. As a result it gets talked about and brought up a lot. Probably because a lot of the world building is done through the characters and as it goes. People who've seen lots of anime, especially lots of fantasy, scifi, isekai, battle shonen with power systems, and anything adjacent eventually reach a point where they're no longer hyped by a series overloading them with info and lore, the same way a new anime fan is turned off by seemingly complex shows and instead lean towards something low hanging like 12 episode seasonal shows with active discussions and MAL recommends. So you get a lot of people really overhyping it because how appealing it is to someone who just wants

TALL HEISEN

why is Frieren so overrated?

every character is a deadpan 2cool4school archetype

That's pretty much it, after a decade of marvel quips people want something that feels more "adult" yet not dark and gritty, Frieren is comfy, and without the constant jokes people can tell themselves they're watching a serious anime

Frieren is about coping with death and learning what life is all about

Which it does very poorly because her party is already dead at the start of the story so the audience is given no reason to care about them, eventually you start fastforwarding through those awful flashback scenes

Ashita no Joe did it better and that shit came out 60 years ago lmao

undeniable truthnvke. grim.

Why this specific anime get so popular like this, why didn't Grimgar or the thousand other fantasy anime before this

it's bland and safe enough to appeal to multiple demographics without really offending anyone, even people who dislike it just say it's boring and shallow (which is true)

safe and bland products often sell well

how is this fun?

its fun. why do you need someone to justify their enjoyment anon? if you dont like it thats fine just go watch whatever other anime instead, there are millions of them and million more upcoming.

yeah there's nothing objectionable. there is bloody violence but it's not common and not too bloody.
there no sex or eroticism at all. i wonder if that is part of the appeal. so many fantasy shows especially today want to load up on the sex and violence.
i can appreciate either. Frieren is not preachy or antisex, so i don't mind it.

behold the single instance of panservice in Frieren.

pic

that's not the Dwarf Fortress philosophy of fun

well you see her ears are very cute and I want to have sex with fried eden
