I've been reading up on what the content of Jorge Joestar is and I'm a bit confused. Apparently, the book contains really weird shit like the Saint's corpse actually being Jonathan's body after Dio's head was removed from it so that Jonathan could get reattached, George II getting sent to another dimension by the Zombie commander (who wasn't one of Dio's minions after all) so he could become the same screen writer Lisa Lisa later married and the version of Dio that Jotaro killed actually being an AU corpse of Giorno with a piece of Dio's soul turning it into a clone of Dio.

So how am I to interpret these insane twists? I know the book has universe hopping and time travel which explains how this stuff can happen, but the relationship to the original manga seems a little harder to grasp. Just to take the Giorno as clone Dio scenario as an example, am I:

A. Simply take it as straight up retcons and assume Jotaro never actually killed Dio and just killed this clone made from Giorno's corpse?

B. Think of it more as when Kira or Diavolo created alternate timelines to subvert fate and what happen originally was to be taken at face value, so in this case Jotaro really did kill Dio in the manga but Dio being aware of this creates a substitute for a new timeline so that fate plays out the same but allows for him to live in a new timeline?

In either case, how seriously am I supposed to take this novel? Because it's part of the story that some of the characters figure out that they are fictional, which even for canon JoJo that has shit like people turning into snails because they believe it, seems really strange.

I'm not sure what the point of Karaiya's grandfather being a vampire was though. He didn't pass any special powers onto him and the grandfather didn't have an active role in the story itself. It seems to me that it would have been sufficient for the grandfather to have seen Kars' transformation and relaying that story to him would have been enough to motivate him.

I don't get the praise for the Damo arc, just when the mystery investigation part finally starts to pick up pace its revealed that the main antagonist group at this point is basically destroyed and its leader shows up to the main location for a last ditch attack while dumping the entire solution to the said mystery through flashbacks.

It's ok. Hol Horse and Josuke's interactions are cool and Kakyoin's cousin is cute. Not a fan of it being set before DiU but it's funny how Josuke feels more like a main character than in actual DiU.

Shit like this and Pucci's prime number counting are why I think they're the best villains. They're INSANELY fallible and on the razor's edge as much as the heroes are.

Honestly, past a certain point the first half of JJL is genuinely really good, and then the second half is a bit of a CALAMITY but it still has its moments, and between the nonsense, the genuine highlights and the memes, it is entertaining to say the least. It's just this initial stage of introducing the Higashikatas that feels like a drag. Once it gets going, it really does become a bizarre adventure. I still love the first volume also.
I think it's great. Damo is a genuinely threatening, believable villain, his stand is terrifying, the stakes are higher than ever before, and the flashback - which is woven into the fight well in my opinion - is the emotional highpoint of the series for me. Araki does well to make me care about Kira and Josefumi in as short a time frame as he does. I agree that it rushes the mystery, but I think the pay off is worth it, and you probably wouldn't take issue with the first half's mystery being wrapped up if the mystery in the second half also had a satisfying pay off.

The whole Damo arc is Araki's storytelling peak imo, too bad it doesn't keep up that quality....

He is such a weird character. He is in the part for most of the second half, is Josuke main ally (because Yasuho gets completely shafted) and gets TWO detailed backstories but it still feel like he was barely in the story, he didn't had any kind of relationship with the other characters and we didn't get to know much about what was his deal or motivation to help our heroes. My theory when he first appeared was that he was going to be revealed as a rock human who went rogue and wanted to be left out of the Rokakaka business or something like that but no, he was just a random dude.

The theories about Tooru and the head doctor having separate stands but making it seems like one to confuse the protagonist, WoU being actually a time traveler Tsurugi (with the fruit granting you time traveling abilities), the real power of the doctor being reading people out of existence or that one about Satoru and Tooru being the product of the holy ground separating the same being in two as a parallelism with Josuke made the last two years of JoJolion more bearable but also made the actual ending more disappointing.

I really thought there was going to be a "Diego"-like fight after the final showdown, I didn't want to believe I was reading the actual conclusion of the story.

I keep people talking about Jobin as the main villain but you have to remember Araki doesn't do moral ambiguous main villains. Araki goes out of his way to show how evil every villain is. Therefore Jobin was never in the running because what makes him great is that he's not evil rather has differing but reasonable goals from Josuke. Secondly Josuke was probably always meant to find his place with the higashikatas at the end so him killing Jobin would not have made this possible. Furthermore the little gremlin is supposed to be the emotional core of this story so he has to get cured and the curse had to be undone which WoUs deafeat represents I guess. So Jobin basically was always going to win therefore I'm not sure how it would end. Also unless Jobin got a power up his stand was pretty weak especially compared to previous main villains. I'm sure you could make a great stand battle between the two focused on out waiting each other but I just think his ability is pretty lame. So while Jobin is a great character I'm not sure how you could fit him in the role of main villain. Due note I haven't reread part 8 so I'm going off what I remember from 3 years ago.

My problem with that is Araki forgot to make Tsurugi sympathetic to the audience, he's less of an innocent child and more of a midget rapist who works against the protagonists. So seeing as Jobin puts this creature's well-being above everyone including the rest of his family, it's hard to see his intentions as reasonable even if it's his child we're talking about.

My negro Araki had been doing morally ambiguous villains since (arguably) Pucci. Jobin is the only antagonist in Part 8 to be so incredibly detailed, he's literally one of Araki's most nuanced characters in his entire career and then...he gets replaced by some character who Araki pulls out of his dickhole.

Kamina and Diavolo are both voiced by Konishi Katsuyuki, but Char is voiced by Ikeda Shuichi. Unless you're talking about >dub in which case I don't know and I don't care.

I agree in fact I found it strange how he messed up when previous child characters like Emporio and Hayato which have much less screen time are easy to care about. I suppose it helps that those two were instrumental through their own actions in defeating the villain. The issue really is those first arcs with Tsurugi because it really shows him in a bad light. For some reason Araki wrote the higashikatas as terrible people at first then just changed his mind.

I don't like how Jobin's story ended either and think there could have been some sort of 3 way confrontation between Jobin, Tooru and Josuke . I just don't think Josuke and Jobin fighting could work as the final fight and rather think they would come to some sorta understanding if anything. Also pucci is not very morally ambiguous doing anything to achieve his goals which he believes will absolves him of his actions. His goal isn't a very noble one either since it's killing the joestar and there allies followed by him forcing his twisted idea of heaven on everyone. Also messing with fate is always a big no no in Jojo universe.
