Gundam generally is horny but a little different than this. Tomino romance is a bit understated compared to how loud Enokido is. It's not going to be your typical competition rote romance series, but it will be more in our face than something like Gwitch even.

It's going fast, but you have everything you need in both instances. Shiiko especially is extremely efficiently handled and pretty well rounded. While you could expand on her character or have her stick around to take her in various directions, you don't need to either.

The "reasons" they're doing nothing is because they are in an independently controlled area that doesn't belong to them and they already nearly had a diplomatic incident with their initial arrival and pilot's capture.
Their ace pilot wasn't able to unlock the psy com but this girl was. Simply flying down and smashing shit to steal the gqux would be a whole incident and possibly start a war, so they're making the best of a bad situation and seeing if this new pilot that CAN activate the psy com could be an asset as useful as the gqux itself probably much moreso when/if they realize there's at least 2 that can.
