These guys are one of the biggest reasons Wano sucked. Not them specifically, but the whole concept of building an entire parallel manga with like 15 main characters that might as well never have met any of the SHs, and having Wano be split in two between their NIPPON storyline and the SHs actually doing their adventure. End result is both aspects were half-assed and the arc was twice as long as it needed to be for the substance it had.

I honestly think that editor-sama took a crack at the actual length of time Oda wanted to spend fleshing out Wano after Udon, hence the small timeskip to the raid. At most, he at least nailed Orochi as a despicable villain, but it seems like a good deal was off-paneled

Like, Saturn jumped the weakhats (same ones Gunko obliterated) and literally couldn't do any damage. Fucking Chopper on Guard Point was enough to drive him away. This is not a powerlevel issue, it's an example of a dynamic that was recurring on Egghead. Villain is presented as the biggest deal in the history of the manga thus far, but can't actually accomplish anything on-screen and doesn't seriously threaten anyone. Compare that to, say, when CP9 was first revealed and how overwhelming they felt, or when Crocodile "killed" Luffy the first time.

Anyone else thinking Marineford really REQUIRES the remake treatment Fishman Island got?
I dislike how they added the black shiny dbz effects to Fishman island.. But Marineford does need to look the most dragon ball out of any arc. It was the supposed gathering of all the strongest characters and it didn't look very impressive at all compared to any random Wano fight, the characters were slow and their attacks didn't cause massive destruction but this is the one arc that would deserve that level of animation and special effects.

I started thinking that because I was about to say Marineford is the reason we look at the Navy like chumps. They had 3 admirals, Garp and Sengoku... That's 5 possible "Yonkou level" fighters and they still couldn't take down 1 real Yonko nor his commanders (which at the time looked like real top tiers, it's only pos-ts powercreep autism that made commanders nothing compared to the top tiers)

But they only look like chumps because the fights couldn't properly depict the scale of the battle I think. Whitebeard with 2025 Toei would be animated much much more impressive, tanking and deflecting cataclysmic attacks by the admirals that level entire islands as collateral damage or so.

I think the situation might be like Kuja. I.e. the warriors usually end up joining the pirate crew (before it was disbanded). That's why Jarul is considered the highest authority right now. Though we know Ripley is a warrior, and she presumably has never been a pirate. And then there are castle guards, but I presume most of the royal guards died 14 years ago alongside Harald.
