VNs are a pain to adapt because the side heroine routes are always better.
Most of the "successful and popular" VN adaptions have dogshit side routes like Steins;Gate and 0. C;C could've been great if it had a longer episode count since the only good side route was Nono for the twist. SciAdv in general has pretty good true ends. The character routes are filler.
Grisaia's and Rewrite's fame is mostly from the common route as well.

Especially the long ones with their extremely long-winded, padded-out prose to give the illusion of complexity. It's especially cringe when people compare their length to LoTR or something. With an actual editor all these 50+ hour chuunige/nakige wouldn't even be half as long. I enjoy VNs more approaching them as entertaining schlock written by unprofessionals, instead of 'modern high-literature' like autistic VNfags do
