Books that you want to see adapted into anime
It was pretty much adapted into an anime years ago.
On July 25, 2017, at Haneda International Airport, Kōjirō and Shun, who are now negotiators working for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, board a flight for a business trip. A mysteriously massive cube then materializes and swallows the plane with 252 passengers preparing for takeoff, including Kōjirō and Shun. In Kasumigaseki, Ritsu Natsume, who is working for the Cabinet Secretariat, researches news about the cube before receiving an email that Kōjirō and Shun were onboard the missing plane. During a cabinet conference meeting, it is evident that the cube is two kilometers per side, and the plane was absorbed by the cube, not crushed by it. Theoretical physicist Kanata Shinawa later coins the term "fregonics", or incredible isolation, which means that it is impossible for any type of object to pass through the cube. Using the artillery of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force, the northeast corner of the cube is penetrated, and a black sphere pops out. Suddenly, Kōjirō steps out from the top corner of the cube, and soon behind appears Yaha-kui zaShunina, an alien being who introduces himself to humanity.
Sound familiar?
oh, is it good?
Nah, it goes full retard in the final third.
Akira isn't a direct adaption, but heavily inspired by it. It takes the premise of a new generation of children with advanced psychic powers and reality warping abilities, who represent the next stage of human evolution.
I feel like I'm through with scify. I read a lot of the "classics" this year and none really catched me.
This one and the foundation novels were pretty impressive when taking into account how long ago they were written. But reading them now they are not too special.
Maybe I'm just burned out. The big problem just seems to be that almost all scify writers are bad writers, so if you're no longer interest in scify it just isn't any fun.
My favourite this past year was Too like the Lightning, written by a w*man, full of leftist ideology, but really nice if you can tolerate that and accept that it "just works" in the setting.
For anime I want more originals or at most inspired stuff like Mugen no Ryvius. Straight adaptions are always pretty meh.
Easy
It's a mix of detective mystery and serial killer horror.
Eva is a Childhood's End adaptation
This. But not completely (only first 2 books)
Hunt for the horn's last chapters are literally anime material
first 7 eps or so are excellent
Gantz
if you havent read heinlein, you should. he should be in every reading list, but hes considered one of the greats of sci-fi. id love to see Time Enough for Love get adapted. not only is it wild and spectacular, it has some spicy content matter that would never get a sympathetic reception in America. the incest might be a problem. would Japanese consider a person fucking his female jailbait clones incest?
also, if you just want fun, check out Pandoras Star/ Judas Unchained, a pair of books i love. very space opera, but also campy.
starship troopers
It would have made an amazing 1000+ episode shonen back in the 2000s. Audiences don't really have an appetite that kind of thing anymore though.
This thing.
chil[D]hood's end
Nah, just make it like Frieren, plebs will lap it up. It only needs the first 50 eps to be really well done.
It's been a while since I read heinlein, but a few years back I really liked Stranger in a strange land and a few others. Even if it's hippiecore. He's one of the few actual writers doing scify, I just didn't want to mention him because it's been a while since I read one, and also because he's a bit divisive with his antics.
would Japanese consider a person fucking his female jailbait clones incest?
I don't think it'd be a problem for them either way
Ah and I forgot about roadside picnic. 10/10
8 episode OVA or even a VN will be perfect.
high school aged boy genius with a dad that dissapeared in misterious circumstances and a dying mom finds out about the secret fairy society, kidnaps a fairy (who he ambigously falls in love with), demands a ransom to regain his lost wealth
if this isn't tailor-made for anime i don't know what is.
Already exists

Tatsuro Yamashita sings.
Infinite jest
There was an OVA
This one would be amazing but I feel it would be hard to do any adaptation that does DFW justice. That book was so comical yet sad at the same time.
oh really, didn't know that. now I know what im watching today
The Time Machine would be good
Stormlight just kind of fits perfect as an anime. It hits all of the major tropes and Kaladin would be better as tan white man.
There's already a surprising amount of Syl hentai available.
well it is just like a bad shounen already. Though even most bad shounen have better character development
Dying Earth stuff, especially the stories featuring Cugel.
It's basically a LN anyway
Weren't there plans to make an adaptation of this at Gainax sometime during the late 90s?
i have an old copy of the dying earth, looks like this. it was kind of interesting, but also kind of boring. i liked the magical sci-fi world in decay aspects. it's like a post-apocalypse for wizards or something.
wth is this slop
Co. Aytch with cute girls.
Seanchan invasion of Falme
Rand having his duel to the death with another Blademaster
All the heroes from the horn riding around annihilating Seanchan and their beasts
Rand's final fight being broacast in the sky as everyone watches
Would be kino. A shame it'll never get the adaptation it deserves.
Dresden Files
Surely you jest. ST is one of the core works of sci fi anime and a heavy inspiration for the mecha genre.

PEAK
there are harem animes
and then there are harem novels
This book is satanic.
Asimov the creator of the foundation also seem to have believed in psychic powers like Tomino did. But he was a scientist.
Maybe, but I don’t think it portrays what it portrays as a good thing.
and dont fucking tell me otherside picnic, that goes to absolute shit
What is it called in English?
Lovecraft books
The books of William Sleator:
-The Boy Who Reversed Himself
-Singularity
-House of Stairs
-Interstellar Pig
-The Green Futures of Tycho
I find the dark humor in this novel very
Japanese humor
ah the tentacle porn
Slow burn, confusing and done by Ueda.
I think it would be a great fit.
Does erohon count?
Revelation Space. Hard sci fi space opera isn't something that's done often and it's interesting.
Polyhand God of Dalain
Metamorphosis.
Shota keikaku anti-hero protag
Wall of meat Agent 47 sidekick
Main ship is Anon Babble between shota and QT short fairy action girl
Action/Adventure/Sci-fi/Fantasy
Ding ding ding
Animorphs but let it go full Elfen Lied with the gore.
I've been thinking a lot about what it would be like to get a God Emperor Dune adaptation where Leto was a cute anime sandworm instead.
You could twist it into a harem romcom where Duncan Idaho is the protagonist breeding stud and Leto, Hwi Noree, and Siona all want to fuck him. But Leto can't because she doesn't have a big throbbing worm pussy so she just has to seeth in her cuckqueen chair while Duncan fills Hwi's womb.
The stories from Cordwainer Smith's "Rediscovery of Man" done as a series of OVAs.
This
That's not Kafkaesque at all.
This would make for a good show. Especially if done by the same studio that did Tanya.
