Publishers kill Mangadex

publishers kill Mangadex

their apps and websites are still shit

scrapers are still up

pirate sites of paypalled official translations are still up

scanlators will either move to discord or a scraper will promote public uploading, effectively making Mangadex 2 but with no respect for publishers

obscure works will still be popularized by word of mouth, but now the publishers get no money out of the process

the top manga aggregator used to bend over for them, taking down chapters and linking official translations

publishers now have to devote more resources to fighting scrapers and pirates who give no shits and whackamole discords

literally the only people permanently hurt by this are the ones responsible for it

Japs are just that staunch to their copyright law and rights of the author. It can't be helped.

The top

I see you are a virgin.
Mangadex wasn't the top in terms of traffic for a long time. When you google a title it rarely shows up on top of Google and many uploaders don't even upload there and only on Bato.to or other places nowadays.

It was, at best, the top for

titles catering to male virgins

Even the female virgins had their own different websites. Mangadex wasn't the giant Anon Babble and reddit virgins think it is who think Manga indeed starts and ends with things like Nagatoro.

Mangadex wasn't the top in terms of traffic for a long time

Which is...?

When you google a title it rarely shows up on top of Google

The top Google result for a title is going to be a wikipedia article or a shitty app if it's mainstream. If not it's either Mangadex or split between different sites, with the implication of Mangadex holding at least a plurality. Not that Google is a good metric for judging the popularity of pirate sites to begin with.

many uploaders don't even upload there and only on Bato.to or other places nowadays.

Since you mentioned it previously, if you were to take a random sample of 1000 random titles and the first 10 Google results, what website containing scanlations do you suppose would have the scanlators uploading there most often? What website would have a higher concentration of scanlators than Mangadex? Of all the places scanlators upload to, which one would be the plurality?

Even the female virgins had their own different websites.

Are you 12 years old? What's with the fixation on virgins?

Mangadex wasn't the giant Anon Babble and reddit virgins think it is

Which was... ? The only way this makes sense is if you're referring to scrapers, but that makes no sense when you're using the concentration of scanlators as an argument for popularity.

>scanlators will either move to discord or a scraper will promote public uploading, effectively making Mangadex 2 but with no respect for publishers

Wasn't this supposed to be Mangadex (1 [one])?

resources

lmao, it's probably just some some company lawyer sending some mails and mangadex has already cucked out.
you're acting like they spent millions on this

This hobby shouldn't have gotten popular

The fact that that's all it takes is daunting

He's a retard, but there is an artistic point to be made about having the work live or die on its timelessness. I have a similar feeling about Shakespeare, I don't like the editions that have "modern translations" of the language, even if they also have the original text.

In principle, I wouldn't be opposed to feature where I could turn off scanlator notes. In practice, a lot of scanlators are really bad ESL/GPT/MTL and if I didn't have the notes I'd probably have to l look up something on every other page.

You say all this, but manga piracy practically died when mangadex was down years ago.
They lost most of their readers without mangadex, and that killed scanlators motivation.

absolutely garbage site. be embarrassed if you used it.

Damn, they nuked Nagatoro, Komi-san and Frieren, the most normiecore stuff I can think of.
It's actually fuckng over.

The point isn't that it took a lot for Mangadex to fold. The point is the opposite.

It's cheap to make a website fold when it's willing to listen to and promote official publishers. It's not going to be easy when you're up against a site that will just give you the middle finger and move to a new domain. Then your company lawyer isn't going to accomplish shit, and you either have to spend resources tracking them down (good luck, they're in hostile or neutral countries) or give up entirely.

Absolutely delusional.

People don't seem to realize this. Mangadex folded years ago when they started removing stuff from mangaplus and such. Any company can just send them a mail and they'll fold. It's just a matter of time or interest of any party that wants to take things down from their site.

is mangadex finally dead?
good, bunch of self-important fags. they pretend to be the new batoto but act like crunchyroll for manga

Who are you quoting?

I rarely read manga anymore. Anime adaption of nanga are better than the source, like Frieren, and LNs are better than manga.

Good point. I think the difference was that everyone expected MD to come back and they could go back to uploading. Once people realized the hack didn't kill dex, I think most people expected the site to be back in a few months at worst.

No one expected it to take 2-3 years for the site to return to full functionality, and arguably even now MD is worse than before the hack. Remember when your MDlist was just a no-clutter, sortable table? IRRC comments didn't come back until almost 3 years after the hack, which both hurt scanlators (no feedback will make most people stop) and MD (people who wanted to comment stopped using it).

If the hack had 100% killed dex, or if it was clear that the site wasn't going to be restored to full functionality for years, I'm pretty sure we would have had a Batoto situation where another website with similar functionality popped up and replaced MD relatively quickly. This nuke is more similar to the death of Batoto than it is to the hack, imo. No one is coming away from this with the impression that they can expect MD to go back to how it was before. No one thinks this is a bug that can be fixed, and it's the opposite of something that can be restored. The admins aren't making announcements saying "hey, we'll come back stronger", they're openly dooming on the forums. I think there really will be something else this time.

ignoring mangadex is also giving up entirely anyway. At least now piratefags have to deal with some ad infested shithole

This is just another step towards faggotdex going legit, which is where they've been heading for years

This is war and I've only just begun to fight

Piracy.jpg - 496x331, 13.19K

The Stalker TLS are gone? Fuck, man. I should've archived them when I had the chance

I'm a normie tourist secondary. Where do I go now?
Bato.to sucks, most of the chapter uploads there are unfinished or series are ditched ("last updated 2000 days ago") not to mention all the literal gook faggotry on the main page
I don't feel like torrenting each chapter individually like an autist either

just install an adblocker lmao

use yandex and then search for [manga title] [latest chapter number]

I don't think there's any site you won't get chink and gook shit together with manga anymore, it's just what this hobby became as much as I hate it.

but why? surely there's some more purists out there like me that don't want that shit in the same site

it's just what this hobby became as much as I hate it
i find the 2-3 page twitter/pixiv manga even more cancerous than gook and chink shit
and that seems to be what was most popular on manadex these days

these sites aren't charities and they want more traffic for higher ad revenue

Is gookslop really that popular? Surely hosting less things that more people are interested in is better for their hosting costs

oh, right. the tiktok version of manga. that shit really is cancer and I still don't know how people can enjoy that garbage but that's just echoing the same sentiment I get from tiktok style videos

Yaoi is the most popular genre followed by gookslop and then regular manga
South east asian women control the market whether we like it or not

Yes, it's by far the most popular thing on most sites. A lot of them complain about their servers having trouble handling the load when new solo leveling chapters come out

Hopefully he’s still alive…

Part of getting older is seeing the things you valued replaced with newer stuff. This is the age of gacha, vtubers and non-Japanese comics. I hate it, but it is what it is.
Don't worry, we'll feel even more alienated in a decade or two.

I just want a decentralized solution that allows me to combine APIs of MAL, MangaUpdates, and whatever dogshit aggregator is FOTM, with easy way to swap them when one dies, and have a smooth reading experience without jumping between 10 places.
Hell I'll find the last one myself just something that combines first two.

>its not like the translators themselves would be tossing the files into the recycle bin

lol ask me if I still have the raws for the koibumi chapters I helped with

All koibumi raws are on the mega.

The only really important thing is a list of the purged titles, which people are working on. If you have one of the MD exporters (forums.mangadex.org/threads/i-wanna-be-able-to-export-my-library-into-a-file.1171941/ is an example) you can pick out the purged titles from that.

The long-term solution, imo, is not a MD2 but some kind of database that people can edit, like Wikipedia. It won't host anything, but it will have at least the basic information of the titles like mangaupdates and links to where they can be read or downloaded, preferably the latter. Once you have that, all you need is a reader application to fetch the links from the database. Other features for the database down the line should be allowing you to create, import, and export your list. There should also be a button to just download the entire database, similar to en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Database_download, and since you're not dealing with the actual manga pages, it should be relatively cheap for anyone to back up. If it goes down, someone can easily restore the whole thing.

Christ everything is going to shit I swear.
Just start World War 3 or Civil War 2

Shirahi sad.png - 1920x1080, 966.43K

Gaming is so shit right now

Didn't watch anime for almost a decade

Only read manga

Now this happened, I guess no reason to keep up with the last hobby I have from my younger days.

silly gaijin just buy the manga that isn't available in your language from the website that you are region locked out of

lol, lmao even

what.jpg - 668x70, 6.8K

Only read manga

but manga is also shit now

At times like these I'm glad I branched my hobbies out.
If it was 10 years ago and both manga and Anon Babble were nuked, I'd be devastated.

Everything is going to shit. I enjoy cooking, and everything is getting more expensive and worse quality, while my niche brands started being unavailable where I live. Books are shit and there's maybe 2-3 new ones worth reading per year. Board and card games are in a terrible state. Gyms are now subscription only with cancellation fees, when I used to be able to just pay on entry. Even getting a good bike is harder now.
Other social media are actively getting worse too.

I wouldn't pirate manga if picrelated was the reality where I live. if publishers want my money, then offer me a good service for a good price

file.png - 447x551, 607.81K

The fuck?
Manga is the only medium still putting out great shit

They need to make a good subscription service where you pay 10 bucks a month (with 1 dollar for the first 3 months to get you hooked) and get to read most of your stuff in one place, with good quality in a timely manner.
As it stands you pay 1 dollar per chapter and they have maybe 5 series worth giving a shit, and need to do this on 10 different apps. No shit nobody wants to engage.
Webtoon works fine because it actually is the "big guy" and doesn't have many competitors.

anon, there are other sites to read on, and scanlators will adapt. It's bad but not the end of the world.

names?

posts that glow

lmao

sounds like a horrible model for the mangaka themselves and the publishers

Subscriptions that give you access to recent issues are a good way to regulate access. People will still purchase the series they really care about, which is where the main money for publishers and authors comes from.
As a reader I prefer it over web shit with single chapters available for a week or two.

Enshitification is all too real these days.

anime is more available, but everyone wants to cut, censor, or put shitty translations or politics

manga barely gets translations, and sites are so unstable, and legal options fucking suck thanks to corporate greed

guns are always at some politician's crosshairs, and inflation has made the hobby expensive, especially with ammo.

I should probably seriously look into going outdoors

welp guess ill go back to using goddess for the removed series

bookmark is dead

ah fuck i gotta relearn torrenting dont i

But that already exists. Weekly Shonen Jump and other magazines do this exact business model, except for access to past stuff.
Okay maybe the price ends up a bit higher when it's weekly, but it's the same principle.

If the big apps just shared their old scraps with each other, so each of those apps offered 90% of the manga library in existence, and they just had their own exclusives as unique selling points, it'd be profitable.

a good subscription service where you pay 10 bucks a month

Most of your stuff in one place

Good quality in a timely manner

Never happening, be lucky shit like VIZ only charges 2 dollars a month or some shit. Even then, that doesn't account for manga that these licensors will refuse to TL since it doesn't turn heads or bring in money.
I had a few series under BookWalker, but those sites are so god damn slow and the reader is awful. I ended up just using rakuten or some shit like that to rip a few of my favorites.

Guess this means more storytime threads in the future

Dont bother, other sites just load the 1-2 days worth of latest uploaded chapters. Only the ads are 100% loaded and the various gookshit/chinkshit.

all Japanese

all have maybe 10% of the series I care about

We're talking about catering to EOPs.
BokuYaba is only available on one of them. That's kind of the problem here.

I don't get the constant war on piracy, after all these decades they should have realized that it's pointless and just a waste of money
yet every month they make some new bullshit only to get btfo in a matter of hours, if not minutes: for every site they kill, 5 new sites get made
is it retarded boomers?

It's days like this that makes me appreciate the physical media I have and maybe my own downloaded backlog.
Except that there's quite a bit of manga out there that I like that are super behind or worse, are digital only.
And that's not including shit with nothing official at all

>Gaming is so shit right now

why? there's plenty of good games out there if you don't just focus on AAAAA stuff

It's the fucking corpos with their insatiable greed + retarded boomers who hold power and listen to them because lobbying.
It hurts the bottom line of the short term thinking retards who want their returns NOW instead of doing REAL investing and putting out something that will turn into a profit.

True.
I'm not too sad since there are plenty of games out there that came out less than a decade ago that are great and still priced normally.
There's also indies and backlogs to consider.

Which series got removed? A few non-big series I read recently are still there. When I first heard about this I thought the whole site went down again.

Killing mangadex is quite inconvenient for me personally. If there was a decent service that did the same job as mangadex, I probably would've jumped onto it.
Unfortunately retarded execs don't understand this. They just see piracy as "lost profits" but they don't have a channel for those profits to be regained.
Some people on MD forums are saying that it's because French people have those series translated and they were reading English releases instead, but that's pretty retarded as well.

So... What other websites you anons use anyways, if not mangadex?

Search "[manga] online" on yandex and use one of 10 billion aggregators

ignoring mangadex is also giving up entirely anyway

It's not. Because Mangadex cooperated with takedowns and linked to official releases, what happened was that obscure stuff which no one would have heard about otherwise blew up to mid-tier popularity. Once this happened, the publishers might come in and ask to MD to shut it down.

If the publishers were smart about this (and to be fair to them, they seemed to be doing this before the nuke) they would wait for a series for blow up on MD and get an established readership. Then they do the official release and ask MD to shut down the scans. Even though most of the people following the MD release aren't going to go to the official release, still more people will go there than if the series never blew up on MD at all. And since MD links to the official release, the benefit is even more acute.

From a publisher's POV, MD functionally weakened the piracy websites that don't listen to you, gave you a market, and could be relied to do anything you told them. Killing MD does away with all that, and in the long run leaves you no choice other than to give up, because there is no incentive for the next Batoto-like to roll over for you like MD did now that you've set this precedent. There won't be links to your official release, acquiescence to takedown requests, or a prepared market for you. It's just going to be Kissmanga with a social media function for scanlators, based in a country that will just ignore your lawyers.

Well dmca.com has a lot of great manga on there.
I say we should report that for a takedown

My plan is to keep my AniList updated from now on, then try experimenting with MangaUpdates for announcements on new chapters and just dig them out of shitty third party websites.
I'll probably get bored of doing that after a week.

Same mentality that politicians and companies have that they're ever gonna be able to monitor and control social media and decentralized outlets of news and information, to take control again like they did back before the 2000s.
They think it's a war they can win, and we're still 20 or so years before this generation is gone and we're left with something even worse: millenials, running the place.

Tons of manga never end up on goddess or nyaa anyway.

That's what I usually do, either with novel cool or one of the batoto clones, but I'm asking if there's a specific one you would recommend?

Do you also collect newspapers or something?
Do you still use a fax machine?
Your post reeks of moldy paper, anon.

I mean what sites you use for reading, if you would recommend one in particular.
...at least in relation of what you said, I was using MAL for the database to keep track of shit using the sync extensión.
And using manga updates RSS to keep up with new chapters.

So what's the easiest way to export my Mangadex reading list to use elsewhere?

And absolutely nothing of value was lost.

Companies want to push the whole package, not license one or two titles. They you to buy their junk whole, priced as if you're interested in everything.

When house husband was nuked I dropped it completely, I'm not looking forward to doing that for more series. I got used to the convenience. F.

French people have those series translated and they were reading English releases instead

Lmao you could accuse literally every country in Europe of this EXCEPT for France

since criminals will always exist we should stop trying to catch them

Hopefully the mangadex devs will add the ability to export your chapter read history for any of the nuked series

When it makes no sense to try and catch them, yes

subscription models suck. it doesn't even make sense for manga, which isn't the kind of thing you sit down on a couch and scroll through to find some random crap to watch, like you do with Netflix
you read manga already knowing what you want to read, meaning you'd be overpaying for a monthly fee that grants you access to stuff you'll never care about. as opposed to simply buying the series you want

they should have a service that gives you free access to a few of starting chapters for every series, some dirt-cheap subscription that gives you access to the newest chapter realeases (or even free, if they'd rather have ads on the app/site), and on top of that a one-time-purchase option for published volumes. give the user a library like Steam where they can organize and access their bought volumes at any time
then, give people a customizeable profile page just like Steam for them to flaunt their manga tastes (everyone is a narcissist), include a discussion forum for each series, make it linkable to Discord or whatever the fuck, and now you have a massively popular service

admittedly, the main issue with this is that you need a huge library available for it to make sense. unlike Steam that sells games from just about every publisher, I can't imagine a third-party manga store being able to get big-time manga publishers to put their series on this service. so it'd have to be something created and maintained by Shueisha, or Kodansha, Shogakukan etc
but I think it's undeniable that there's a huge hole in the market for an app that serves as a digital manga collection like Steam, just waiting to be filled

Cant you iust like remember where you left off
Do you people have amnesia

Just upload the chapters again lol

some of us read more than a handful of series, anon
and at a certain point, a lot of them start to blend together

Titles I found that weren't in the nuke log pastebin, on the off chance that anyone gives a shit

Dai Dark
Tower Dungeon (all chapters before 9, though hardly relevant since people just pirate the official)
Ushiro no Shoumen Kamui-san
Nezumi no hatsukoi (all chapters before 46)
Tenkaichi (all chapters before 47)
Ore no Genjitsu wa Ren'ai Game?? ~Ka to Omottara Inochigake no Game datta~
Gokusotsu Kraken
Versus
Gachiakuta
Hajirau Kimi ga Mitainda (all chapters before 79.1)
The Summer Hikaru Died
Witch Hat Atelier (scans were dead anyway so whatever)
Natsume Arata no Kekkon
Blue Period
Sakusei Byoutou Zen-nennrei-ban

I have like over 300 series in my reading list and over 700 in my plan to read list

Read an Isekai

Chapter is only 9 pages

6 pages are advertisements from the group the other 3 are from the manga

I fucking hate this shit

Was gate purged? I was just in the middle of reading the latest chapter yesterday while waging and got distracted, one of the benefits of work from home

It doesn't/wont exist, all manual, anon.
Unless you kept track already with some database like Anilist or MAL.
If not you're nare fucked.

oh god, here comes the indieshitter

Dont worry even isekai shit getting dmca'd, now you get to spent coins at the paywall scanlators site.

Blame! got sniped

Fate/Prototype got sniped

Land of the Lustrous too (though I finished that one so it's not end of the world)

Yorha pearl harbor descent got sniped

FUCKING Birds of Death got sniped too even though there was only two chapters ever scanned

Genuinely grim for some of these since a few were only on Dex

Just checked, GATE is fine, Nihonkoku Shoukan as well

Versus had been hit by a takedown for a while now, I think since the first or second english volume came out

I miss My Disciples Are All Big Villains, and finding out that it was dropped because the creator told them to stop sucks

Upload some autism turbo watermarked slop with missing/empty bubbles and there are no problems for some reason

Mangadex is garbage

Most of the manga I'm reading are not hit by copyright. I guess they're too degenerated to be licensed.

I love when publishers do this, yeah "kill" piracy and tell people to spend $10 on 10 different subscriptions to read what you want on their shit websites. The fact that SHUEISHA is the "best" around just shows how garbage publishing overseas is.

ok then go play assassins creed yasuke since that's the only game that exists on the planet

I pulled Dog Nigga SSR during last month limited gacha

now the site is going to EoS

not like this bros...

Is there anything that exists that will sync to something else like MU and Ani?

Onegai, Nugashite got gutted

The most recent chapters are still available but FUCK that hurts...

I better hurry up and read that. Thanks for double checking. I prefer reading on my vertical monitor these days. Going to suck lurking every thread to compile methods to view updates for all these series.

...at least in relation of what you said, I was using MAL for the database to keep track of shit using the sync extensión.

And using manga updates RSS to keep up with new chapters.

Can you elaborate on those two for a retard who's tech savvy but never dabbled with these things and doesn't know where to start?

niche SoL series I scanlate with ~1k follows got taken down

ecchi series from the same magazine I also scanlate with almost 10k follows didn't get taken down

What's their plan exactly?

forgive.jpg - 419x580, 72.06K

You are replying to innit.

You two are equally silly, there's still great stuff coming out in all forms of mediums

Personally I'm scared for stuff like Mato and especially Iruma

They took down WATAMOTE, the series that exists because Anon Babble, so english scanlators prepped it up and bought copies from oversea and made it popular, the series that was on the verge on cancellation.

Reminds me of Yomega Kiss where the "chapter" would be 1 page and they'd still put 4 fucking pages of their own advertising in them.

thanks for beta testing, loser

Actually pay for it

Get punished

I do believe that pirates will pirate no matter what, but I also hold the view that many of these publishers deserve it.

I checked YZQ and it's still there, out of curiosity I also checked how the official translation is going, it's currently on chapter 157, for reference the fan translation stopped at chapter 137, that was 6 years ago. Official Translations are a joke.

You had at least 2 decades to learn the runes to read the RAWs you only have yourself to blame

Jojolands got nuked too, although the previous Jojo parts are still there
Azumanga Daioh and Mob Psycho are empty too, but I don't know if they were already like that before or not

No idea. At least 20 series I read with less than 1k follows and 0 to 1 comments per chapter got killed. Probably cost them more to have lawyer write up the takedown request than they'll ever make as a result of this.

Suspicious Cats

I am one of the few anons reading "Level One Demon Lord and One-Room Hero", I actually bought it because the scanlation stopped with the licensing, just a handful of chapters were on Mangadex but they took down those too.
Is 5 dollars a volume on Bookwalker, but 10 if you want it in english or 15 on Sevenseas..........why?
But I like it and still buy it because I want to support the author, even bought it in japanese even if I can't read it (yet).

Isekai doctor with the thicc girls is also kill.

Birds of Death

It had a full spanish translation, it was taken down too

DMCA'd Frieren

Cocksuckers. I'm still not paying for some dogshit app.

Was all taken down at once or is it still ongoing? I still haven't had time to check my series. Can I assume all that survived will remain?

There is also Manga-up, but they censor so much is ridicolous, this is an erotic Manga (not the main focus though) and sometimes put censor bar over clothed people.
global.manga-up.com/manga/86

This is all because of manhwas

Same anon kek

There was a Dog Nigga gacha? The fuck?

Huh?
The official TL is up to date(in terms of volumes) at ch 177, the slow pace of YZQ releases is all down to how fast Yasuda puts out chapters.

It was their april fools, dog nigga was the rarest thing to pull.

No, it's wonderful model for everyone except brick-and-mortar bookstores, who keep lobbying against it.

Who are we blaming for this one? Daiz?

I think it was all at once but I would not expect this to be the last takedown. More takedowns will probably be soon to follow as other publishers hear about it. Mangadex will become Mangadead...

Fuck them, they're irrelevant with services like Amazon that can deliver shit to me free of charge

No, they will just sent a new dmca for more take down seeing how md just complied with everything sent.Better start using those manga reader app for syncing shit, too bad they seem to prefer phone/android device instead of a desktop app, even with suwayomi you dont get to directly use md id to sync over shit, gotta do some roundabout shit with android app and then moved blahblah.

Sure

The dumbos at MD administration by allowing non-english non-japanese shit.

Part of their plan to spread degeneracy to the west.

There are only so many ways you can say "this is a retarded move"

So is the solution creating a racist website?

I'm not trying to defend MD here but rather understand how having things outside manga lead to Japanese publishers to DMCA MD.

White gaijins and pags don't matter anyway.

A lot of traffic came form people wanting to read the korean stuff, and as a result it grew in popularity faster.
Same could be said about non-english TLs.

All of the series my group work on that are licensed weren't touched

The one work that wasn't got taken down

Who was even behind this DMCA? The targets are random.

If they don't matter then why DMCA? Shouldn't they just ignore them since they don't matter?

The koreans are trigger happy. They went for Tachiyomi last year, and it's just a glorified gallery application with 0 relationship to the source. Of course they would eventually go for the source itself. The Japs rarely care, unless you give a precedent.

Can't read Zeikin de Katta Hon anymore

This will be my fucking Joker moment

BokuYaba is only available on one of them.

It's a web series, it shouldn't be in any of them.
There's so much manga magazines, it's unrealistic that a single service can carry all of them. If you subscribe to two of them for $10 per month in total you're ending up with more manga you could care about than you could actually read.

Personally, uploading to mangadex has always been secondary compared to posting my translations here, so I'm not particularly shaken by this. Still, I suppose I'll keep uploading new chapters unless they tell me to fuck off. Now, if only my threads would get more replies...

Shit up the front page and server too if youre not logged in and have filters.

Where are all the supposed good video games from the last 10 years

The better solution would have been to have a secondary website for korean stuff then if the koreans are to blame.

That's the norm for manga apps. Since you can read some chapters by watching adverts and the like they have to censor certain contents but nobody really knows how far.
The volumes they sell in the same apps aren't affected since those can only be bought with money.

Guns and Stamps is kill

Another one. This shit just got a couple of translation too after years.

Not from AAA western studios.
Most of them are indie and/or from Japanese devs.

Everything in English was deleted

Suddenly someone uploads Spanish versions, from atleast 4 different groups

I’m both surprised and confused from having many groups in another language showing up out of nowhere

0002-015.jpg - 822x1200, 206.54K

people wanting to read the korean stuff

I'll never understand this, that shit ain't good and I've tried to give it a fair chance. If I had to guess it's probably women that's driving it since I see a lot of female oriented manhwa when looking for stuff to read.

So, tokyotosho but for manga?

but those sites are so god damn slow and the reader is awful

Use the app.
There are no good desktop readers anyway.

kingdom gone

another overwhelming victory for riboku

I legitimately did not use mangadex for like 5 years now, it's either nyaa or some aggregators with decent scans like weebcentral if i want to quickly check something up. It's clunky and slow as shit.

7 years

took longer than expected
also, don't be a pushover faggot next time

weebcentral

decent

If I remember a bunch of fags still do whatever they want and upload their versions with their giant ad in the middle of the chapters, One Piece for example

Hombre just can't stop winning
Mangadex is run by literal idiots who keep themselves busy on Discord now. I don’t know how they’ve managed to keep the site up for so long with zero improvement, despite their devs being on Discord 24/7. Even the scrapers that scraped Mangadex are better and faster than this literal piece of shit

They you to buy their junk whole, priced as if you're interested in everything.

That's not the model most of their websites are selling. You're paying per chapter ($1), or a subscription for a library that's less profitable than the per chapter model. No company's economic model relies on you buying every product.

Companies want to push the whole package, not license one or two titles.

The former is the advertisement, and the latter is what the company is actually trying to achieve. For any company, most of their revenue comes from one or two products. Even for something as incestuous as Apple, 51% of their revenues in 2024 was just the iPhone.
With manga there can be more than 2 titles due to the variety, but proportionally it will always be a tiny minority of products that makes most of the revenue. And there's a huge drop-off. Even if you already hold the license, investing in English releases for every license you hold means that most of these investments will actually lose you more money paying for the service to be there than if you just sat on the license.
Make it another language, and this becomes obvious. If I have series A, B, C... Z, does it make sense to translate all of these into Jamaician Creole, or just Y, which I know is already popular among people who speak Jamaician Creole, and maybe D and K which I think may be popular?

Unfortunately, manga publishers are probably gonna be like the kr ones and force you to pay on their site if they ever go in that direction. Fucking hate Korea and their Ridibooks/Kakao/Naver/etc shit.

I think MALsync works with other 2-3 databases but can't remember if it includes Ani.
Go and check just in case

MALsync

A browser extension that can detect and sync your manga reading and anime watching into MyAnimeList and a couple of other databases.
Just install the extension and login with your MAL (or other database) account and it will automatically update your progress (by default it works with most sites for reading manga/watching anime both legally and pirate).

RSS

Have you noticed a weird yellow button in Manga Updates (and most sites, really) if you copy the link on that button and paste it into an RSS reader app (inoreader is good) it will create automatically a news feed from that source. So basically you paste the RSS feeds of the mangas you are following and it will tell you when there's new chapters.

learn languages

can pirate in English, Russian and Japanese now

it's just that easy...

I'm not reading fotm shit so i wouldn't know. Things like Pandora Hearts have decent scans there.

giant ad

I am completely unfazed by things like that unless it's multi minute ads like what the fags force on you with twitch.

try to tune into mogra

can't even start without 4 minutes of ads

Where MD comes in that plays to these companies advantage is the last point, because it gives them the unique opportunity to only invest in products that they know are already popular and have free marketing directly to their service, something which would not naturally come about from a typical free market. The other reasons for I have already repeated, but one reason I haven't mentioned is that scanlators do not really operate as a competitive market.
Most scanlators make little or no money off their work, and for all their e-begging, their time would be more economically productive working minimum wage jobs. And since they usually predate the publisher to the market, and arguably the market itself, and usually stand down when asked by the publisher, the scanlator "industry" essentially functions more like a free trial for the market, in a way that makes the piracy of scanlation and the piracy of $60 Steam games not really comparable. Perhaps the closest comparison is when someone steals a copy of Jump before the release and a OP speedscan comes out, but I think everyone can agree this is both not expected generally of scanlation and beside the point for MD, as MD general policy was to remove these leakscans and the kinds of series subject to this were usually already banned anyway.

Believe in the anime boost!

All the gundam mangas are kill

Russian translations are absolute dog shit by the most part, unfortunately. At least for a native russian speaker, they sound offensively terrible.

Curse my European blood and having a European second language which has next to zero translations.

What did they lose this time? My Tachiyomi hasn't notified me of any missing series so I'm assuming gook shit.

Large swathes of Kadokawa, Shueisha, SQueenix, some other publishers

actual series this time not gook and china shit

see

Horny Oujo Sama is gone now ;___;

I still find annoying that Weebcentral doesn’t tells the translator or group, even uploader, it’s a mixed bag, for example the version of The Eminence in Shadow being different

Ad as in they slap their giant fucking "join our discord group and visit our website" page in the middle of the chapter you are reading

Oh yes here is our giant 2 paged fused trash

But I checked and it seems that they have removed those

The series are still there technically, the chapters aren't, as usual, just on a bigger scale.

Ad as in they slap their giant fucking "join our discord group and visit our website" page in the middle of the chapter you are reading

My brain is more than capable of tuning that stuff out. I don't even notice the e-begging for the sick mother any longer.

I hate gook slop consumers.

Tons of shit from several big Japanese publishers

yeah, its really working wonders for the film, tv and music industry

I want to hug you right now and buy you your favorite beer
I'm always coming to your raw threads homie

Did the sick mother ever really exist?

Do we have any decent manga reader software for Windows yet?
Calibre is kinda ass.

If scanlating existed before mangadex it will exist after mangadex.

you read manga already knowing what you want to read,

No. You have a bunch of magazines you follow that will regularly include new series and oneshots for you to discover and older series that you may eventually want to catch up on.
Subscriptions make it feasible to follow a lot more magazines even if you initially only read one or two series in them and purchasing each issue wouldn't be cost effective.

I can't imagine a third-party manga store being able to get big-time manga publishers to put their series on this service. so it'd have to be something created and maintained by Shueisha, or Kodansha, Shogakukan etc

Bookwalker is run by Kadokawa but their subscription included magazines from Shonengahosha, Akita Shoten, Micro Magazine, Kodansha, Hakusensha and various others. Amazon's Kindle Unlimited is completely third party.
Volumes and magazine issues are almost always available across a large variety of ebook stores, exclusivity is rather rare.

Man, I only came here after leaving for good when the shartpocalypse happened to check out the reactions and it's priceless how retarded people here are lmao.
I'm actually wondering if it was a disgruntled leech scanlator group who snitched on them and if they snitched to all the companies they could find.

literally just block JP and USA IP
if USA people want to access, tey ave to use VPN

From a quick skim, all I was reading is Nozaki-kun (which wasn't really being updated that often anyway) and Flying witch (Which the TL also uploads to nyaa anyway), and some things that also get weekly torrents. Most of the things have been official for so long noone actually TLs them, or long completed. It's a nothingburger.
I don't see Watamote, so the list may not be complete?

And pissrael and india while they are at it.

nothingburger

they hit things like Frieren, DunMeshi, 100gf, absolutely a lot of very popular series.

you say that when a good chunk of people itt are crying about their favourite isekai, sol or romcom being taken down

I'm just not allowed to enjoy anything, am I?

Just consume and reproduce, citizen!

Frieren

They had the one with the dreadful "pls gib money muh mom is le sick" translation, I can't fathom why would anyone ever be sad over losing that.

simulpubbed and caught up, unless you really care about >>>>>sick mom scans

finished for years

ok, but it's just 1 series that will probably migrate someone

I don't drink alcohol
Anyway, Shibuya Near Family is the only series that I'm not doing completely by myself at the moment. I'll keep doing the TLs here, but the typesetter can decide for himself if he wants to keep doing it.

I am mad about Dungeon Meshi because I was gonna read it any day and on MD they included the extras included in the BD.

moving the goalposts

A big chunk of its relevant library got nuked. Simple as.

as an almost fluent speaker i offer my services at 25 american cents per word, on a 1-on-1 very sensual and private session of real-time translation of your favorite series
+5c a word if it's hentai, but i will do the onomatopoeia sex sound effects and moaning

More like a mangaupdates/wikipedia with torrents/download links. Every manga would have its own page, and all the links and information for that series would be aggregated and categorized on that page, edited and updated by the community. That's the basic gist, I place the trust the community to add in any useful categories of information I can't foresee.

I'm just using honeyview lmao

The goalpost is whether or not this affects MD as a scanlation site. It doesn't.

True. At least block jap and the gooks.DMCA is only for american (or registered in america) copyright/ip no? I doubt the jap publisher registered those series that has no american release/presence.Seems like dmca trolling.

I'm not moving anything you fucking moron, if you wanna mourn something at least let it be something with a good or at least respectable tl.

I have not, and will never pay jap pigs a cent

no_smoking.png - 735x760, 898.54K

Jap customer support is booming here in my 3rd world. Above average pay, could be double too, though gonna suck if youre in south america.

Torrent for manga can't work because of seeding issue
You can't even download most raw manga volumes no nyaa now because 0 seeders.

If a grocery store has no food but is still "open" is it really a grocery store?

The fact that they took down manga without any official release offering means I will definitely never pay as well.

Its a good grocery store sir.

Even if you downloaded them you wouldn't want to read them since the quality sucks. Raw uploaders have no idea what they're doing.

Why are people acting as if there aren't a million scraper and aggregator sites that still have those chapter that have been deleted.
Yeah sure it sucks to make to look harder and use a more ad-ridden site, but it's not like chapters are being lost forever.
The actual big issue is scanlators won't post new chapters until they know whether its going to auto taken down or only affecting chapters that already existed.
Spent the last 2 hours getting everything in MD to Comik on the smll chance the chapter pages start getting deleted or I lose progress but now I might need a 3rd back up site (likely WeebCent)

I'm not even gonna grace you with a >>>food analogy meme. 99.99999% of the food ever uploaded to MC is still there.
And the missing 0.00001% is also still out there and most likely still getting updated.

They're officially offering them in Japanese. Stop being entitled.

when mangadex died and when I got banned because I was a toxic scanlator, I uploaded my stuff on nyaa and dumped them on Anon Babble. I barely got any traction, so a HUB like MD is necessary for most scanlators.
Anyway I just got banned on their discord for typing "hombre won", so they deserve to die.

i wasnt paying for manga before, but now I definitely wont pay in the future

clowns

I want to believe it's on purpose so they don't get hit that often out of pity.

because it's a bad decision
where am I supposed to go read manga now? there is zero direction, brand recognition, there's nothing
they didn't bother encouraging people to go legit, they only cracked down on pirates and hoped for the best

how do you get banned from mangadex

sniping and chapter skipping

so the list may not be complete

That's an understatement. A few of these had no translated chapters to begin with or were deleted after some drama, but the majority were purged.

file.png - 1185x1006, 303.14K

weebcentral

I don't know why you fags keep shilling this, there's no distinction or choice for different scanlator groups so there's a mishmash of official and fan TL chapters for some series

weebcentral is mangasee rebranded

The fuck, rozen maiden too? Just confirmed on my end as well.

I just checked and yeah, it's just that. Guess I'll check someday if Cash Money Chiyo posted somewhere, Watamote should be mentioned on Anon Babble (even if the chapter isn't yuri) and FW has torrents. Let's hope this isn't just the start.

MD was supposed to be a site for scanlators to scanlators, that changed along the way but it was never really a beacon for piracy.

NTA, It's actually hilarious how easy it is to stop that retard when he posts.

Can I smoke with the help behind it?

weebcentral

Missing tons of series, all the manga searches I do on that site turn up nothing

Offer me a good service

cuz MD is trying to appeal to everyone and spraed its influence as far as possible by allowing non-japanese comics, non-english translation to the site.
they got "too close to the sun" instead of just staying low-profile... like the current batoto, for example.
current batoto has become a safe haven for shoujofags, yaoifags and indonesians

Easy to notice but easy to ignore

The search option in that site is very annoying so it probably doesnt show up because they have it as in with other title

but why?

Because money. Look, as much as retards whine about MD being shit, or pretending there are other alternatives, there are not. Period. No other site has the amount of scanlators the site has, and that's not going to change anytime soon. All the other sites are only concerned with getting material so they can inflate their catalog and attract more idiots to their sites and get money out of them. They started doing 100% for the money, and they don't care about autists like anons.

manga is much more widely in french, spanish, italian, etc. than english, thus they have no need for scanlations

somehow, ESLs are the problem

americucks never change

boys there is going to be so much dogshit isekai on MD that major groups are going to fight over
sad that the good stuff died, but looking forward to the fallout
i live for shit like this, goddamn

So one of my series was hit by these DMCAs, does that mean I won't be able to upload it to MD two months from now if this shit blows over? It wasn't even a popular series to begin with but it got caught up in this thing. If they're going to go after it with the same intensity as something like Frieren that's fucked, because if all it takes it mailing a takedown notice with thousands of names in it, there's no way the site stays afloat - no guarantee they just take all/any other series down tomorrow.

poop.jpg - 1200x1097, 66.72K

if all it takes it mailing a takedown notice with thousands of names in it

That's always been the case.

That too.

thats already been the case for a long time now

Yeah, but you could at least go off on things like it's licensed / has an anime / which publisher it's from / if it's popular in Japan... whereas now people are compiling lists because there's no rhyme or reason to what gets taken down.

good subscription service

literally impossible

The worst part is that a whole bunch of manga that got killed were obscure stuff that will never get an English release and if they ever so get one, it'll be because fan translation got them popular in the first place.

They've said that future chapters are likely not to be allowed to be posted dmca'd series.

Add it to the list

They'll simply localize stuff that are popular IN JAPAN instead of overseas among pirates.
That means Seven Seas is going to die soon cuz they ONLY localize stuff that got popular here.

*this list

The Black Museum:

One managed to escape for now , the springald series.

one of my series

What was it?

no sir T_T

Why the fuck does Japan hate foreign money so much?

Publishers simply don't seem to realize that pirate sites are a hydra - you kill one, 5 more pop up in their wake. In order to kill it you HAVE to kill it at the root. But the issue is THEM.

Piracy is a service issue. As long as they never offer any official alternatives or any cheaper or better-quality translations of their content they'll never be able to kill them permanantly. And as long as Japanese companies continue to be run by out of touch baby boomers they'll never learn.

Please, if you scanlate something, UPLOAD IT HERE. I have a pass so I'll probably dump some series that disappeared myself.

My day has beem ruined.
At least Vermeil being nuked isn't bad because there's places that are far ahead but it sucks knowing that the two chapters me and another fellow worked on are gone now

Gannet sad.png - 605x648, 463.42K

And how often does a series with no english translation to increase it's popularity win one of those polls?

MD is the root, the scanlator hub

They managed to kill piracy in Japan and turned digital into their main source of revenue.

We're running out of countries to host pirate contents bozo

Look at the series they licensed and compare it to the releases listed on MU or MD.

he doesn't know...

I'm still reading my raws on a few different sites. the only thing they killed was the largest aggregator.

Say that to all of those Japanese IP addresses on my torrents.

Oh shit is Manga dicks dead now - where now?

Try reading more than surface level shit.

where to DL raws after 13dl died?

Manga torrents?

what is russia

Ok

Automating anime downloads is easy with sonarr and the like. Is there something like that for manga?

This is your response to the statement 'piracy is a service issue'

When the main reason people pirate manga is that you STILL cant even access official translations outside of Japan unless you live in America and even then its a crapshoot where translations are at best 3 years behind the japanese release.

Oh yeah, they're gonna kill peoples reason to pirate aaaaaaaaany second now. After they are done hiring dozens of lawyers to harass the websites giving people an interest in giving them money as well as provide links to where you can if the option even exists.

Sorry anon, I'm shy. But it's just some series. And I'll dump new chapters on Anon Babble so some day you might come across it.

At least I was downloading all of my currently followed series offline so the immediate impact is lessened. Sucks going forwards though.

So what's the actual solution? Could it be possible to host files via IPFS (like Anna's Archive, LibGen etc) then just have an indexer site where scanlation groups share the links? That way the sites themselves aren't hosting the content, and it's significantly harder to remove/DMCA content from IPFS. If the chapters were in .cbz format, I'm pretty sure Firefox can open them natively, dunno about Chromium based browsers though so that might be a bitch. Are there cbr/cbz embed plugins in existence?

People pirate because it doesn't cost them money. Even giving them money wouldn't change that.

Batoto proves this statement is false. The moment Mangadex dies, there'll be another to take its place. It's simply the cycle of piracy.

I hope the next one won't be run by obnoxious yurifags. Giving the future of manga scanlations to thr Dynasty Scans people was a massive mistake.

those usually end in some blog to be downloaded

publishers mass rape them

STILL shilling for them in the comments

I can't tell what's real any more.

the 99.99% of manga that wasn't hit continues as normal

the 0.001% that was hit moves to somewhere

You're also making it harder for the users. These sites got popular because people were too stupid to figure out IRC. Same reason why (illegal) streaming sites are more popular than torrents.

redditors are cucks

what else is new?

Good riddance
Zephyrus is a loserfaggot who got divorce raped by his wife lmao and Bravedude isn't any better
Die you piece of shit shitdex

This is objectively false. A good, cheap service will always ultimately win out over it being "free" - if alll publishers hired scanlators fulltime they could easily shit out cheap releases like mangaplus does, then eventually publish it for cheaper by investing in cheaper printing methods. But of course since inferior American printing press sucks we'll never have that, and because translation as an industry is filled with hacks even if we had official scans everywhere as long as they're shit people will prefer the unofficial alternative.

I looked at the list and sheesh, it is pretty bad. A bunch of series I had been meaning to get to and a fair few that I wouldn't have read without mangadex (admittedly, for a lot of those, I wouldn't have ended up buying it anyway so...). Like Tejina Senpai. Obviously, other sites exist and I can just buy volumes if I really feel like it but it was a convenient place and I personally feel a lot less compelled to seek out a variety of series if I need to search for it or spend money. Honestly though, I have been reading a lot less variety in general anyway. Time's been the limiting factor.

we're still 20 or so years before this generation is gone and we're left with something even worse: millenials, running the place.

millenials, running anything

C' mon man, we don't run things, the ones that do are an exception. Heck I see companies skip over "millenial aged" folks in promotion programs in favor of younger folk, given zoomer adjacents are just that much more proactive.
If gen x is the "silent" gen, Millenials will be the "skipped over" gen.
Either way yeah, this whole thing is.. inconvenient. but that's all it is.

VIZ does a pretty good job with the VIZ and SJ app, but it apparently is worse financially for individual manga creators than stuff like the Kodansha app (which charges a bit per chapter, which uh, blows).

I forgot that internet is only like 25 years old or so... how long until freedom in internet is totally gone?
I can definitely see it.
regulation x100 stricter and younger people are ignorant about anything illegal on the internet since they're used to quick legal option and convenience

Ever since I started learning moon and reading raw while checking my understanding with scans, I can't believe how bad some official translations are.
Right now I'm reading the Kanna spinnoff of Maid Dragon and the amount of cheek in tongue absent in the raw, erasing context clues and things like lone "..." for hesitance, changing of words and straight fanfiction is staggering.

seitokai yakuindomo and yaotome x2 have been purged.
any idea where I can find archives I was going to download them and other series when I had time in the summer but now what...

you'll know when the death of piracy comes: it'll be sweeping legislation and power given to publishers granted by governments

I usually saw Japanese IP when I downloaded WSS and WSM raws

Do people even use mangadex except for specific translations that were only recently released there?

if alll publishers hired scanlators fulltime they could easily shit out cheap releases

They could do even better by paying the scanlators a small sum for all their scanlations. That way the scanlators do all the work, and the publisher just buys $1000s of work for almost nothing and takes all the profit. The scanlators have no choice but accept because they're operating in the black market. The publisher starts where the scanlators left off, so the readers jump in without waiting for catchup.

How much money do you spend on digital manga? How much would you be willing to?

I think I'm going to do some torrents
At least the limiting factor there is the chance of a hurricane killing my electricity

Kuro concern.jpg - 1920x1080, 271.57K

I'll pay a maximum of $15 a month for a netflix style all in one place manga

I pray that by the time it happens I'm just an oji san living on a modern day log cabin in the middle of the woods with enough shit to last me the rest of my life

Why don't you use services like MangaPlus or Azuki that do exactly that?

a more realistic model will be publishers picking up a lot of series at once, and they will parse them all through MTL with a handful of dedicated editors to make it look nice
and all-you-can-read manga on crunchymanga for $11 per month...13...15...

You can't simply resell scanlations, even if the translator agreed to it. They'd need to license fonts etc.
Getting fan translators work via programs like Mantra has been tried but nobody buys them.

I used to have subscription on Bookwalker, but stopped ever since they eliminate the "magazine-only" subscription and jacked up the price because only full subscription is available now (magazine + manga). 880 Yen monthly I think when it used to be ~500

Crunchyroll actually used to include manga in their subscription. They had Kodansha titles among other things. Nobody cared when they shut it down.

Yes, they are retarded why are we all pretending to be shocked by that fact?

Because there's barely anything on there?

to be fair this place is a sausage party and not really a good sample of the average user of MD

That do exactly that

They're slow and they don't have 99% of the manga I want to read.

Licensing is utter cancer

because only full subscription is available now (magazine + manga)

The full subscription includes novels and costs 1100.
bookwalker.jp/subscription/novel/
836 is still cheap for what you get. How many magazines did they have back then compared to what you get now?

Don't be surprised publishers want to exclusively control their own series so that they largely spread out in those lines.

publishers kill Mangadex

Mangadex

And?

Just consume and reproduce, citizen!

well that last part is debatable, not to mention that the entire point of the page was to consume (at least for the most part)

You're just making up excuses why you shouldn't have to pay.
You'll never pay anything.

i can imagine
if i'm a really casual anime viewer i won't care for manga. that's how i feel about light novels -- if there's an anime and manga for something i would never waste my time with volumes upon volumes of fanfic bullshit

I genuinely can’t conceive paying for a manga that isn’t physical
Do people seriously do that? Bits are free

Oh fuck. Those just don't exist in English. This blows.

it saves a lot of shipping fee if you buy a ton

Everything is free if you steal it. Space became a premium for me as I grew older and I still wanted to give some money to the creators.

Steam turned me from a turbo pirate into a paying customer
Let's use Azuki for example. You can't even search for author/artist's work. It only has Princess Jellyfish and Tokyo Tarareba Girls, but not Tokyo Tarareba Girls Returns and Tokyo Tarareba Girls Returns 2, or Blank Canvas, and many other Akiko Higashimura's works
What's the point of paying for this shit

You may only consume corporate approved content for a constantly increasing fee, I suppose would be more accurate but thats a mouthful.

I paid for some series because I wanted to support the author, I prefer to read digital, although I'd like to own the physical of some stuff.
Fuck, how am I supposed to know when a series gets updated now? I would have to manually check them all.

same amount, except I'm forced to pay more to partake in manga subscription too now.
I used to follow bunch of magazines, but magazines only. I simply have no interest in BW's manga selection since they're always old and gay. Some magazines are region locked to Japan like Harem and Young Comic, but easily circumvented by JP VPN.
Now, I don't really care anymore. I just use some shitty raw aggregator sites to read my favs. no more hunting for niche manga in niche magazines.
ripper anon's telegram is dead too, so no more easy & free access to everything anymore

i was sick in bed with the coof and managed to watch the entire thing on youtube, officially in 1080p (rescaled)
fucking so glorious

Can you give a specific example? Curious to know just how badly the raws get butchered

you can migrate bookmark? wtf

I'm not paying a total of $100 across various apps and services to get a handful of manga that may or may not get simulpubs.
Especially in this dogshit economy and inflation

always was

walk into store looking for X

they don't have X

leave

Simple as.

Help a nigga out bro.How?

Golgo 13

What the fuck? God forbid we have a couple of the thousand Japanese exclusive chapters fan translated.

learn the language or wait until machine translation is actually good enough

memba Batoto?

I do, that was a life time ago. Can't even remember what I used to read there.

If Mr. Salaryman wants my money so badly he should make buying manga from the source less convoluted than a Google search

It's easy. Just remember the manga you're reading and bookmark them on the new sites.

does Weeb has page that keeps track of the updates of series you bookmarked?

why's no one translating pon no michi manga?

1892.jpg - 1200x630, 119.8K

New Nube series just started yesterday in Jump+

not in Mangaplus

I wish Mangaplus pick up more Jump+ titles

I haven't pirated games in like 15+ years.

missing the point

Some magazines are region locked to Japan like Harem and Young Comic, but easily circumvented by JP VPN.

Doesn't even have to be that complicated. Just add them to your favorites.
user.bookwalker.jp/favorites_management_front/magazine/bulk

same amount

That's bullshit because there's a constant fluctuation of magazines coming and going.

I originally came for the manga selection and later focused on the magazines. Sometimes they add recent manga volumes but these days I just buy them myself.

I remember when I had a shitty connexion and the norm for pretty much every site was still page by page reader, waiting multiple seconds for each page to load, can't believe I used to read for hours in these conditions.

And therefore you don't pay anything for digital manga and will never pay anything.
Why refute it?

oh I understand the point but it is a whac-a-mole. people should give themselves tools to deal with undesired situations like this one.

Was it before they removed it because of dumb Westerners bitching about whaling? Lucky you.

I remember liking all the Vermeil chapters on MD anon.
The places that are "far ahead" just pirate the official release.

For example, in the chapter they help Vanir, 30 minutes got changed to 30 seconds. Other things I remember are simple phrases like "I'm about to do my howework" getting changed to "I'm about to go to sleep".
It's all minor shit like this, but for something you're paying for it's inexcussable. I've seen good fan translators getting flammed for less.

file.png - 667x533, 308.96K

haha
no i think i got sick during the time that they made all episodes public and finished it as the last few eps were airing
you can still find them here: youtube.com/@itsgeiru

Look at the absolute garbage that is MangaUp for the reason why people pirate manga. A fucking comic site should not have 10 different currencies like it's some kusoge gacha

10 different currencies

As in they accept different currencies or it's a gatcha thing?

Jej, el hombre made me do that but now I have like 1.3k reading list.Owari da.

Damn 30 minutes to 30 seconds is huge. What are they even thinking when doing stuff like this?
You have any tips for learning moon?

The first time I watched a subbed anime was Beyblade because it was all on youtube and I’d be like three episodes ahead of all the shartoonnetworkcucks
Good times

It's the opposite. Coin systems made people pay for manga that they originally pirated.
We may not like it but there's a reason why so many apps use it.

It's gacha shit
And you dont unlock chapters permanently.
OH AND SOME MANGA ARE LOCKED BEHIND EXCLUSIVE APP STORES

I would actually pay a reasonable price if there was a paywalled version of mangadex that had regular updates to manga I like. There isn't and not only that but paid content regularly gets taken away or worse they will re-translate on the fly if they deem the original translation politically incorrect therefore I will continue sailing the high seas.

DON'T FORGET TO DO MISSIONS BY WATCHING ADS AND INSTALLING RANDOM PLAYSTORE APPS TO CLAIM COINS TO RENT MANGA CHAPTERS FOR 2 DAYS!

Wow. Why the fuck would anyone pay when stuff like this is pulled? You would think the hats would learn by now on how to keep customers paying but I guess not judging by the fact that there's no equivalent to steam still and in other mediums (films, tv) content is regularly stolen from you after you paid.

At least they publish free chapters which get ripped unlike Kmanga trash that's mostly paywalled.

imagine proudly declaring that you're a cuck

images_87.jpg - 533x575, 35.62K

Most get volume releases. Even Ganma eventually released them.

holy shit-taste coomer

i'm secretly pulling for a future where youtube gets rights to simulcast anime, hopefully for free

- U12 (Under 12)

Haha yes gaijin san , we gonna bring this to western readers soon. Wait for it minnasan!

youtube

They are one of the worst offenders when it comes to this stuff.

Ebook stores are the steam equivalent for manga.

Another example, not putting the ... kind of ruins the gag.
The anki decks + tae kim worked for me. Don't obsess over vocab retention too much, but keep at it as much as possible. Do a good read through of the tae kim (skip the sonkeigo and honkeigo, that shit is better learnt in site). Compelment what you didn't understand on the Imabi guide. Don't be shamed into not using OCR or internet translators on the side. Accept you'll take 5 minutes per page at first. It will go down with time. Reading is the best way to learn, in the end.

noooooo my meme translation....

did you really not like mario odyssey, elden ring, resident evil 7/8, sonic mania, BoTW, factorio, outer wilds, DOOM 2016/eternal, cuphead etc etc? what do you like?

i'll worry about the ramifications later

They have a fraction of the content.

The only good game in your list is outer wilds and it’s indie

most series getting purged don't exist and will never exist in english

wagie stops me as I leave

NOOOOOO YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR ITEMS THAT YOU DIDN'T WANT

What's wrong with you?

suit yourself

Makes sense given the sheer numbers of them, but I admittedly am not familiar with the vast majority of series that never make it across.

You can count the ongoing manga without digital release on one hand. Pretty much everything from the past decade is available and many popular older series as well.

And that is a good thing.

I mean, these guys read all kinds of obscure or porn shit. I can genuinely believe that there are a lot that don't make it to digital. Hell, there are still so many classics that don't have proper digital releases. Like the 50s Princess Knight or a ton of shit by Go Nagai.

how? Or pertently, for who?

manga authors do not want disgusting foreigners reading their series

retard

Can I get a citation for that claim?

wakame konbu
overlord

I like actual video games

manga authors

False. Just as there're author who don't want their their works being read by foreigners there those are happy people around the world read what they make, like the rooster fighter author. Most probably don't really care one way or another.

I see, you are retarded.

to love ru taken down

to love ru darkness still up

I love how incompetent japs are

speaking of nips being anti-gaijin, do japs on twitter or whatever forum they like, know about this mangadex shutdown? I'm curious what they're saying

such as

I can genuinely believe that there are a lot that don't make it to digital

BL and TL is largely digital only even. And available in regular ebook stores. R-18 content has some weird situation where some content is heavily censored outside of DMM/DLsite but other, harder, content has the same censorship on Kobo.
Princess Knight has a digital release like pretty much all Tezuka series. Go Nagai is one of the few stragglers.

YWNBJ

Does nyaa have almost every manga that's being uploaded in MD? I might start downloading stuff from my bookmark once the new HDD arrives

lolno

I AM STILL WAITING FOR VERMEIL
I HAVE ALMOST ALL THE JAPANESE VOLUMES BUT SQUARE REFUSES TO GIVE ME MY ENGLISH VOLUMES

god damn this shit sucks

Do you collect them in japanese?
If not, you just cope with bad official TL if it comes to that?

This was posted earlier. No newer batch though I didnt check.
nyaa.si/view/1304255

Eventually the Japs will catch up. They started realizing PC gaming was a thing at some point in the second half of last decade, and that steam was a thing not long after. They'll eventually dawn upon the realization that working with convenient distribution services might work for anime and manga too.

They'll never catch up.

the Japs will catch up.

lmao
they're even losing to china and korea in anime vidya department

I mean just going off in comparison to the list posted
Super Mario 64/Sunshine

fromslop

Resident evil 2/3 (original)
Sonic 3 & Knuckles
Majora's Mask

autismslop

DOOM
Metal Slug
In almost all cases the modern equivalent or sequel just has much less interesting gameplay and depth for the sake of handholding the players and making it cinematic

They already have a prosperous digital manga market. It's the foreigners that are ass backwards and only buy physical.

Well RIP, a few months too late.

tfw always backup every single manga i read

not my problem

So how come some series were completely purgued while others still have some of the most recent chapters?

maybe they saved most of this stuff and it's a matter of cataloguing and organizing?
maybe the MD staff will let them borrow those files in secret?

I meant no newer batch from others doing similar scraping, that fall part was mentioned by anon before. My bad. There are probably more data hoarders with newer scrape waiting to upload somewhere.

They'll get purged eventually

- Sundome!! Milky Way

Lol, why?

pic related

Arakure Ojousama wa Monmon Shiteiru

Fucking hell, I am not joining a discord group to thank the translators.

Holy fuck so many series are gone. What the hell?

Still sending in the clean-up crews

Didn’t we alrrady go through this with batoto

Some autist maybe can figure out when the dmca content was created/filed from the date chapters were removed.

This is only getting more possible with every day that passes thanks to AI lmao

Backing up manga is a full time job and I already wage slave for 9 hours a day. Fuck me.

In regards to Princess Knight, only the 60s one. Not the 50s or the original sequel series. I once believed that most series were available digitally, but I found that when I saw the series listed by other manga creators, there was a lot that you just can't find.

Like on this page, we hear about all these great authors. Here's a list saying the series they're known for.

"Adachi lists his childhood favorite artists as: Takao Saito (Golgo 13), Shinji Nagashima (Hanaichi Monme), Kazuo Umezu (The Drifting Classroom), Yu Takita (Terajima-cho), Shigeru Mizuki (GeGeGe no Kitaro), Hiroshi Hirata (Satsuma Gishiden), Yoshiharu Tsuge (Screw Style), and Eiichi Arikawa (Mitsuyoshi Sonoda) (Sangokushi)."

Obviously, you can get Golgo 13 and The Drifting Classroom digitally? But the rest? I looked it up and maybe I'm just blind, but I don't think they exist officially.

kill fan translations for series that have no official english license

no way to gauge how popular a series is or could be in western markets

???

no profit

Rookies, Ushio and Tora,Karukuri Circus, and Souboutei got nuked

What fucknuggets would target them they aren't even licened in English

They're lagging behind in that because their programmers and general coding practices are stuck in the 2000s. They didn't make steam though, they just use it to distribute their junk, meaning their know-how is irrelevant.

Sounds like cope to me honestly. Breaking up these sites works. A tiny fraction of people will attempt to use Discord and after their servers get nuked four or five times every time they get too big, they'll just give up. Give it a year and trying to find a discord server will be a nightmare because the internet will be full of dead invites to banned servers. It will be bad for the industry. Scanlators will quit because they're no longer able to reliably teach a large audience and will feel their work is meaningless. Obscure works will not still be popularized by word of mouth, they will just die. It will be bad for publishers, but it will also be bad for authors and readers and the entire ecosystem.

was it just mangadex that got hit?

Their problem is that they have a very backwards mentality when it comes to certain things. Using family stamps or fax machines still as an example. It's cute as a cultural thing until it starts impeding important shit you need to take care of. That mentality then leeches into other areas and starts causing problems like what we're experiencing now.

And a lot of those aren't independent, they are owned by either Kodansha or Shueisha.

No lol Batoto was 100% offline to just had some fat trimmed.

Yeah but we didn't learn our lesson and got complacent, so we will once more scramble around like headless chickens for a few weeks.

Pretty sure batoto got nuked too

So, what now?

This sure is a complicated year....

people will just get back to irc

I'll give it a week before we get some sort of alternative. Gonna be a pain in the ass to update my tachiyomi though

That's a very small price to pay for years of mindless convenience. I'll take that deal everytime.

We use the doom energy to read 1-2 things from our backlog, then we wait for a half-decent replacement to come online and carry on doing the same shit as before.

Breaking up these sites works

It will be bad for publishers, but it will also be bad for authors and readers and the entire ecosystem.

This seems like the opposite of "working"

Rookies gets nuked

Roku Blues is still there somehow

hit with personal issues

then this stuff

Yeah 2025 sucks.

neither of the series I work on got nuked

one is literally 1 chapter from ending so I would've been very sad

I'm running out of the will power to keep on archiving everything.

pLEASE, USE MY MANGA SITE!

Sorry. I meant in English.

Sounds like cope

Even in your far too pessimistic estimation the publishers and authors still get fucked.

Why is everyone doomposting like MD was offline (again(again))? Yeah, some series will have to find a new site, but only a few hundred of thousands were nuked. Mostly finished stuff that's backed up in every aggregator under the sun.

file.png - 1074x537, 80.57K

Theres tools that make backing up from these sites trivial though?

Why is everyone doomposting

Nobody is going to waste their time using MD anymore. Not scanlators and not readers. Why bother when a series might get nuked out of nowhere?

Honestly if we had the JP system of charging 50 ¢/a buck per chapter, as long as the translations were good I'd do that. Better to pay and keep it after download rather than steal it or buy overpriced western releases.

Because about 20 ongoing series will now be a huge pain in the ass to keep up to date with.

I do remember Batoto. It was pretty much the only site that didn't compress images to shit and back like other manganigger aggregators did. Then it took months for smaller groups to migrate to mangadex and some of them never did.

but now my manga updates have English names I don't recognise!!!

Nobody is going to waste their time using [my shit site]

good news then?

anime and manga piracy is community-based where people want to talk about the series with other people who have read it
the next step of piracy was always decentralization with different 3rd party sources, but for anime/manga it's anti-thetical because places like MD and streaming sites gather everyone in one place

Honestly wtf is with this, How did this DMCA work? going after Rookies instead of the bigger Morita series is baffling.

what's the alternative, you retard? 10,000 different blogspot pages? discord? what a fucking retarded grognard post. a centralized hub is not a bad thing as long as said hub doesn't buckle to jap legal threats

Spoonfeed me
Where do I go now?

jap editors are seriously retarded lmao, let's kill our small series with no foreign translation so that no one will ever be able to evaluate the market for it, dumb boomers.
good thing i don't use mangadex since the last hacking retardation that exposed the owner as a complete and utter retard.
just use mangafox, it's unkillable because they are chinese and they are one of the oldest manga websites still active, they don't care about copyright faggotry.
and no i won't give you their link, their name changed somewhat, do you research yourself.

most of those are trash and/or finished (so you can find them anywhere if you search enough).
wow a nothingburger.

AND STOP CENTRALIZING EVERYTHING DUMB ZOOMERS

Koko burger.jpg - 256x334, 32.78K

It changed publishers, didn't it?

google.com

I will until I get told to fuck off and stop uploading, at least

there are already lots of manga with missing chapters when you're using mangadex anyway, i'll just transfer to another site

It just works

as long as the translations were good

The most important thing that nips refuse to recognize. It doesn't matter how much I like something, I will not reward shit translations by giving them money.

I've been using yacreader for a long while now

I'm pretty sure Hombre is giggling right now.

I know it's not relevant to thread topic but why the fuck is manga outside of japan so fucking expensive? I remember reading because of japs not selling the manga printing machines and most of the price being shipping + revenue, but is this true?

bro only the top 300 most popular series got nuked, why would a site with most of it's non-slop content die?

You fucking retarded dude go commit an hero.

idk, post a torrent on nyaa, who tf cares.
It was down before and manga still updated.

Price gouging.
They have an absolute monopoly on distribution rights so they do what jews always do.

Amemiya-san got nuked

rip

I Am A Hero

kino

Yeah, and most are finished (ex. dunmeshi, ranma), or simulpubbed (frieren, sleepy chino).

Depends on your definition of working.

It was down before and manga still updated

Actually a lot of groups did pause during the Hombre incident.

Same reason as merch being expensive as fuck, I presume.
Costs are one thing, but having exclusivity lets you get away with a lot more.

this
google image the chapter and the page number

Division Chief Shima Kōsaku

No western publisher will ever dare touch this

nuke it anyways

A lot of the people that control the publishing companies are bad people overall. They are greedy and stuck in antiquated ways and are incapable of viewing things with long term vision/goals.

You care for e-celeb worship more than you do for manga. Oh no, your favorite youtuber-er, group quit?? How terrible.

Division Chief Shima Kōsaku

Usagi-moku Shachiku-ka

Rip moon bunnies.

korean stuff

This is what killed gogoanime too.
Despite being separate, their other site showing kdrama or something got hit and gogo was a casualty.

I am a hero isn't that good (or at least the end isn't that good) but it's finished (it is in France and has been for years, i won the manga).
and Sidonia is also finished and easy to find because it's Nihei.

so literally a nothingburger, mangadex was always compromised since the day they got hacked, it should have been a lesson to those who cream their pants about building translation hubs and centralizing everything.
reminder the owner wasn't against becoming legit and getting money from the publishers, but i guess people already forgot about that.

Batoto got pwned and you retards fled to mangadex and now they got pwned as well, next time you'll do the same because you're lemmings.

most of those are trash and/or finished (so you can find them anywhere if you search enough).
wow a nothingburger.

only two on that list weren't available on other sources (3/5ths of the list I've already finished, but I like to keep completed manga catalogued)

I didn't mention quitting and I don't know where you got worship from, yes some manga got translated while Dex was down but some didn't and it has nothing to do with my feelings about translators.

it's not expensive in France, there's even a law that blocks the price of books at the same level and you can't do price gouging and shit like this (hell even Amazon cannot have higher prices and they lose money because of shipping).
it's like 7.20 euros for a one piece volume so...
it's a cheap hobby in France, anime is expensive on the other hand (but i think that's the same everywhere).

What is the alternative in your opinion? NOT flee to the next centralized translation hub and instead search up each series by hand like a caveman?
I'm all for decentralized solution or having multiple sites that serve the same purpose, or using API for sites like AniList/MangaUpdates that won't get hit, but that's that and this is this.

if only you could post them anonymously...

You can, but only if you already have an account.

They are greedy

I actually think they're knowingly sacrificing profit for power. Everyone has already pointed out that taking down fan translations just makes it harder to determine which manga are worth officially translating. But it also means that bad actors and people playing favorites have more control over what does and does not get translated since they would no longer have to deal with pesky things like proven popularity.

There is nothing wrong with centralization.

there is when the host is willing to fold like a lawn chair to any kind of legal action

Are Anon Babble translation dumps gonna be a thing again now that there's no centralization?

Then, to the next centralized hub we go? MD lasted for 8 years. And I wouldn't count it out anyway.

And people still asking why mod doesn’t just make a /kr/ board since the whole board is only about 4 or 5 koreaboos keep screeching about the same gookslop

Striving for the power to lose money is an interesting approach to business.

to the next centralized hub we go?

and all those years and years of uploads that won't get reuploaded

not to mention scanlators get discouraged by this shit

The only reason it lasted that long was they didn't try to stop it, and everything there won't be found elsewhere in the same quality.

MD got the full Batoto DB didn't it? I don't see why that wouldn't be the case here.

Iruma-kun and Bokuyaba are still there bros.

Md should fight some of the dmca claims too, how the fuck series with no licensing/planned release in america gets to use the dmca takedown.

The bigger problem is putting all eggs in one basket.
Keeping track of series you're subscribed to, what chapter you read up to, of when those series update, and hosting the chapters themselves, is just a bad fucking idea, because if anyone wants to shut down just one of those components, all four get nuked.
There are websites that manage 1+2 and 3, and they have APIs.

All I want is a website that lets you enter your 1+2 token, pulls data from 3, and gives you links to 4. It doesn't even need to be a website, it can be an app, a command line script, anything really.

They’re even losing to china and korea in anime vidya department

What are you talking about? China i can understand because they has the population of billion, even dog shit could become popular with the support of billion chinese drones but Korea? What did they have made? Their mobile games are all simple mindless auto grindfest and their video game are all p2w grindfest and soulsclone copycat.

was mid-reread of 100kano

weeb central doesn't have the .5 chapters

MotherFUCKER I need to see Violence-chan's precious first smile again.

nihil novi sub sole

same thing happened with batoto

It was cheaper before they keep increasing the prices using inflation as an excuse.

both seasons of the Fable are already finished and available on alternative websites.
the rest liek mushoku and tensei shitara have official translations, so they're 100% sure to be ripped and put on the internet.
claymore has been over for a long time, etc...

NOT flee to the next centralized translation hub and instead search up each series by hand like a caveman?

bro, i started reading manga in the early 2000, EVERYONE was reading their favorite manga from blogs with people that translated it, my favorite blog was entirely centrered around D Gray Man.
we had a better community back then because the translation was good and you could interact with the people of interest directly, and back then the copyright faggots were even worse than now, shutting blogs left and right but it didn't matter because they'd ALWAYS come back.

so yes, this did happen before and the first main "hubs" for manga were websites like mangafox (still exists) that had bots that would search the various blogs, torrents, etc... and moderators that'd do it by hand just to put it on their copyright proof websites.
it was also very easy to know where to find your stuff because the community was talking a lot and blogs/websites had small box banners that you could click to bring you to the blog of interest or the scanlations/fansubs team directly (where they would also have those box banners on their website/blog to do the same), it was impossible to stop despite the numerous attempt to DMCA everyone and shut down everything.

now people want all in one click like netflix fags, at that point just pay for your manga or something if you're that lazy.

but muh list

people used to bookmark their favorite websites or chapter pages on their browser, hell i still do this because the bookmark title stays even if the site is literally dead for years.

Because being licensed has nothing to do dmca requirements.

They think that short term profits are better than long term. They have zero futuresight. Like the anime industry, it's also why they work their employees to the bone. Don't forget that Japan is the land of

you go home when the boss goes home and the boss has decided to stay until 10 PM today and then go drinking afterwards which is company mandated

because if you refuse the DMCA they'll sue you and you'll go to court, i guess they don't want that.

People started consolidating in the mid 2000s with OneManga or such already.

all the manga I own physical copies off are those I read on MD and then decided I want to own
guess I am no longer buying anything

Weren't there already a few software like that? I swear I remember using one a good five or so years ago.

Sorry, you're supposed to buy $12.99 volumes of manga that you've never read in the hopes that you might like it.

There is Taiga but it's only for anime.

Are you being for real here? Unless you read shone slop only so many titles are not licensed in any way, especially older titles

Did xun only upload to mangadex?

because that's a real excuse, if you open the page where the credits are, you'll see most manga in France are printed in Italy and i doubt paper comes from Italy.
the supply chain was already severely compromised during Covid.

i'm glad i bought more than 1400 volumes before it got a tad more expensive though, but at this point i've almost run out of good manga to buy anyway.

I guess getting their names officially and more shit so they could proceed with more kikery outside and inside the court.

Stellar Blade is a great game from Korea, played a bit of NIKKE and Blue Archive and they seem good, definitely popular at least.

I would buy a good chunk of the manga I read on mangadex if I could buy it in English. But yes, we survive. It is just irritating.

I mean, you can read in the book store.

Stellar Blade

Oh that sekiro + nier copycat

Nikke

Auto grindfest time crisis

Blue Archive

Auto chibi grindfest
Try again

i'm mainly talking about the early 2000 french communities, we moved to hubs later than americans.
and fansubs also died later i think (but now they're almost 100% dead sadly).
they were websites before mangafox obviously but that's the oldest one that's still somewhat good that refuses to die, i don't use it all the time but it's nice when you want to find licensed manga.

muh old times

yeah and we stopped doing things that way because they were inconvenient and also there were way fewer series you kept track of
going back to trading VHS tapes at conventions is not the way

and the blogs and communities you're reminiscing about still exist, they're not always blogs though, sometimes they're subreddits or other modern equivalents like discord, and are equally prone to being nuked by an unstable individual, just as blogs were

so yeah, a lot of nostalgia but zero real solutions in your post, so if you have any, I'd love to hear in a single sentence what is, in your opinion, the right way to proceed

tfw Germany also has laws related to the price of books

but instead it's a retarded law that says the digital copy is not allowed to be any cheaper than the physical one

You forget that these are companies made up of multiple people whose personal interests do not always align with the business's long term interests.

digital copy is not allowed to be any cheaper than the physical one

What the fuck, really? That's like, the number 2 reason d'etre of digital media.

Stellar Blade

See? soulsclone copycat, and still way less popular than 2B from Nier

NIKKE and Blue Archive

Simple mindless auto grindfest
Also why does Korean love 2B so much btw? They could do some collaborating with Stellar Blade or any of their "Simple mindless auto grindfest" but instead they choose 2B again, why?

Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken

kek, the spin off of that shit always cockblocked me every time I tried to search for mamono no kuni

Yes. It's the Buchpreisbindung. Publishers can dictate the price and no one is allowed to deviate from it for any considerable degree.
But more recently they also clarified that digital copies fall under the same rules, so the price has to be identical to the physical copy.
So there is no reason to ever own a digital copy really (outside of piracy)

I saw some 700 long list elsewhere and to me it seemed like it's mostly those who got an anime adaption
but maybe that's also just because everything gets an adaption nowadays

they're even losing to china and korea in anime vidya department

China

Wukong: Souls clone
Genshin: Botw clone with braindead musou combat
Wuwa: Clone of Genshin with flashy braindead musou combat
ZZZ: Braindead DMC copycat

Korea

Stellar Blade: Soulsclone
Lies of P: Soulsclone
Khazan: Soulsclone
Nikke: gacha duck hunt
Blue archive: gacha auto afk
Pfffffffffffffffffffffffff AHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA

but the community has always survived despite all the shit thrown at us and that's okay, if you start doing more than surviving they'll go to great lengths to shut you down, that's how it's always been.
it's just sad to see that japanese boomer mentality about piracy hasn't changed, i have a huge manga collection of over 1400 volumes that i wouldn't have bought if i couldn't read it somewhere (even though some of them were read after buying them but most weren't).

It certainly is dung

mindless auto grindfest and their video game are all p2w grindfest

that and k-pop and all of that sells well since a world in late stage capitalism doesn't give much of a fuck about quality, even ai slop has been accepted more and moreover time

interesting
and this doesn't apply if you "rent out" the digital book on something like a subscription service, right?

Literally all my shelves are full of manga I bought because of piracy

No more space in my room to buy any new manga

Already a massive fucking pain if I need to move because there's like hundreds of books around

Even now with all my shelves full I still have boxes of manga lying around

The only way I could continue enjoying this hobby was with piracy site like mangadex

It's about to get fucking nuked

I hate my life...
There was multiple series I had a tag open on to read for "later" too... fucking hell

want to support my favorite authors

don't want to support ghoulish dinosaur jap publishers

it's pretty retarded, yeah

no costs for printing

no costs for transport

no costs for storage and display

but I am expected to fork over the same amount of money

I have a couple hundred digital copies and I didn't pay for any of them, because that rule is fucking retarded.

Subscriptions are the only thing that circumvents it as far as I know, yeah.
Stuff like the Humble Bundle would already not be allowed anymore though, because they'd be selling specific books and giving you ownership over them, so they have to stick to the publisher prices again.

There was multiple series I had a tag open on to read for "later" too

The good news is that they at least only nuked the chapters but not the entry, so my "read later" list is still fully there, I just need to search for that shit somewhere else.

No, he'll upload all of 100GFs to Danke's site.

Hmm, but what if Humble Bundle kept the correct price but sold it on sale? Or in a bundle.
Basically, the book is still 30 dollars or whatever, but you discount it temporarily?

so, what's the new big site to upload chapters

It would be easier if japs recognized more the importance of patreon and similar methods to help artists

I guess the next big thing would be to develop a site that reads from places like nyaa so chapters aren't uploaded to a centralized location.

You cannot discount it, the price is fixed.
You can only discount damaged copies.

only so many titles are not licensed in any way

There's actually tons of manga that don't have an overseas license. But that doesn't stop them from being digitally available, even worldwide.

For now, unless you got hit, mangadex.

yeah and we stopped doing things that way because they were inconvenient

you stopped because the OG translators, the ones that actually studied japanese at school all stopped because they got old and started families with no time to spare for the medium (i know this because i saw it in real time in my old communities), and what filled the gap were the official translators (former pirates by the way) and same for anime (like how crunchyroll absorbed all its rivals one by one)
now some nu-translators even beg for donations despite pirating their manga and using MTL.

STALKER (the one TLing on Anon Babble or used to) actually knew Japanese unlike those MTLtards but that's one in a thousand.
they were studying japanese at the university back then.

sure let's not go back to that time okay but then don't complain about the second or third hub being nuked because this will always happen as long as they're hubs with a high quantity of traffic.

so if you have any, I'd love to hear in a single sentence what is, in your opinion, the right way to proceed

if should have been clear from my other posts, let chinese aggregators like mangafox and such aggregate by bots, let them do that from your website/blog/whatever because you don't have lots of traffic on the scanlator website anyway so the chance of being nuked is close to 0, stop posting translations on discord, reddit is fine i guess but discord isn't an archive and much is lost by operating on it.
as long as you let several aggregators co-exist instead of putting all the traffic on only one, then they can't do anything because in the slim chance they're able to nuke one, another will pop right after.
and put your translations on torrents so the bots have an easier time finding them.
and stop e-begging in the credit page, no your mother hasn't been ill for over a decade at this point, find a real job.

wow that's really dumb
I'm offtoping now, but humble could still make book sales, as long as it's excluding countries with this law I presume? or is it a country of origin thing for either the company selling or book owner?

scanlators will either move to discord

Can you even download from discord like you could IRC? I've never used it.

As I see it the big problem now is that if you follow 200 manga you'll probably need to keep track of a handful of different sites for new chapters, or use Tachiyomi fork. Like a dumbass I used Neko and was therefore reliant on mangadex.

Just need to decentralize the content like torrents. They can file take down requests all they want but if the website doesn't have the content to take it down, it can't :)

both files and images where downloadable last time I check

The law only affects books sold in Germany. You can sell German books for whatever price you want in other nations, assuming they don't have similar laws.
Although IIRC, imported books are not affected by this as long as they aren't in German, even if they are sold in Germany.

This is what happens when you spoonfeed retards.
Expect this to hit lots of other piracy sites that aren't hosted in hostile nations.

And the Great Library of Alexandria was burned.

What are you guys using that isn't retarded like manually looking for chapter updates on search engine for every single series?
weebcentral looks like shit, missing chapters everywhere.
Mangabuddy looks most promising right now.

Stellar Blade is great

Will this bullshit prevent new chapters of manga from the relevant publishers being uploaded again on MD or will they just say fuck it and allow it?

They targeted it because it was a good service and therefore potential competition to them.

large collection

no intrusive ads

functional reader for mobile devices

Shit like sites that spam you with porn popups and try to install malware on your device every 5 seconds while also requiring you to just endlessly scroll down instead of allowing you to turn pages aren't really competition to their services, so there's not much reason to go after them.

streaming manga

Mangabuddy

for some retarded reason the first result links me to a random comment

I like your conclusions except the part where you're malding about people doing something in a way you don't like
like for example, you know that if they find a real job, they'll just stop scanlating? the reason so many bad quality scanlations are made, is because the alternative is no scanlation

other than that yeah I wouldn't mind people posting TLs to their blogs/subreddits/imgurs whatever and having websites keep track of it
although it still runs into similar issues, like what if a new group crops up? you need a "central" place to advertise yourself as a new group, right? but like I said at the beginning, this would be fine, the less functions each cog serves, the easier it is to replace

Goddamn I hate corpos so much
Fucking niggers have to run to daddy gubbament to prevent their asses from actually having to provide value to customers

Bugs pissed.jpg - 580x447, 24.96K

searching up one or two series you like is below you

I'm supposed to feel sympathy for you vermin?
because you have to type on a fucking search engine once in your life when a thing or two got nuked and this is "caveman" work for you or something? holy spoiled

They hide from google webcrawlers or some shit.

I haven't pirated a game in over a decade, why do you think that is?

Again.

Any site that gets big from retards flooding it will inevitably get hit by corpos.
This is why you don't spoonfeed.
You faggots will never learn this lesson.

Sadly this.
Time to gatekeep harder

Less exposure to plebs. More for us to enjoy.

one or two

If you don't even like the hobby why are you even here?

You watch another guy reading manga.

because every good game nowadays is either free, cheap on steam/GOG, or online-multiplayer only?

gatekeeping only delays the inevitable.
any site that actually offers a good experience instead of being a barely functional ad infested shithole will eventually grow large enough to attract the attention of lawyers

The fuck? Why did they purge this manga too?

464736.jpg - 1649x939, 310.2K

yes actually, and it's mr. vermin for you, pleb
if you only follow one or two series, good for you casual, but I have dozens of series that I catch up on
for some, they release every week on the same day, so it's like a habit to catch up, but some release once a month, maybe once every three months
it is a pain for someone like me, devoted to the hobby, to keep track with everything

I could just wait for the series to be done before picking it up, but I enjoy the conversation with my fellow peers whenever new events transpire, so that is not something I'm willing to compromise upon. Not that you'd understand it.

They removed pic related even though only 4 chapters have been scanlated and nobody's licensed it in English yet. This is so retarded.

Lolno, that's definitely not true.
That's why private trackers exist.
Just make an aggregate that's private and invite-only, THAT is proper gatekeeping.
If you don't like it, you're a corpo shill.

online-multiplayer only

good

free

good

What?

wanted to read zelda phantom hourglass (10 chapters)

got nuked

lol, lmao

Bro, I can see your kuso gacha

free is bad

and yet you're in a thread for manga piracy

I'm not kissing some autists' asses in a Discord channel just to read manga.

Guess I won't be reading Kaiju #8, Akane-banashi, Ruri Dragon, or anything linking to M+. Fuck the publishers.

Or taking a test to gain access.

Then you won't read manga period, good luck.
Enjoy every site you use getting whacked by corpos because you're obsessed with oversharing and don't know how to shut the fuck up.

Kaiju 8

Wasn't that dogshit on mangaplus or something like that?

then don't, not my problem

It's Wizardry and it's hardcore boomer shit, you don't understand
Name some good free video game then

Oh disregard my question I posted before reading your entire post, I am retarded.

>That's why private trackers exist.

he said "a good experience"

Or treating piracy like a second job and spending years autistically grinding ratios in other trackers that have nothing to do with manga just to be able to get into what I actually want.

publishers kill

i was wondering if Mangadex just shat the bed like always
damn

Sounds like a personal issue.
Better go get a job and learn nip, maybe then you can read your manga.

Oh fuck that shit. I am part of a private tracker in which I abused free leech to get really positive ratio but I rarely download stuff any more. Login occasionally to keep my account active.

nah I'll keep pirating, jap publishers can suck me off

Let's be honest, today's pirates are all entitled zoomer turd worlders.
We need to shake these people off permanently, and that'll only happen when all their aggregates and sites get taken down and destroyed and they can't read ANY manga period.

Desktop Dungeons, the old version with shit graphics
Path of Exile
a bunch of old RPG Maker stuff
a bunch of old stuff that's abandonware by now
Wizardry Variants Daphne

A played a free video game called Eldritchvania recently, the title's very generic but it's basically a compact La-Mulana clone with a Lovecraft theme. Would recommend, and I'd recommend the original freeware La-Mulana as well.

Learn how customer service works, suit

Path of Exile

Noooooooooooooooo

Wizardry Variants Daphne

Yeah, but because it's the only way for blobber to stay alive in this day and age

a bunch of old RPG Maker stuff

It's call Doujin game, not free game you fucking plebeian

Are you blind?

Turd worlders

Customers

stuff like Ib, Witch's House, To The Moon, was freeware

Maybe it's time I finally take the Anon Babblepill.

Don't remind me of the good old day, now free games are either some crappy koreaslop mmo or gacha mobileshit

for every site they kill, 5 new sites get made

What was made to replace rarbg and tgx? Name 5 sites created after their shutdown.

They even hit Prey. A fucking webtoon that finished running 4 years ago.

There's still plenty of good stuff made nowadays that's freeware though. Plenty of not good stuff too, but there are some gems from time to time.

Glad we are in agreement that amerilards are third worlders and an absolute cancer to any hobby they infest.

Why do people use the MangaPlus model when that’s a losing model financially?

oh no, not a shitty gooktoon

Shut Hell still stands

You can't kill this girl

Shut Hell 7.jpg - 984x1087, 174.58K

Good luck finding decent raws.

Look how expensive manga in Japan has gotten in the past year.

Only if you're a retarded short term thinking investor

That’s the thing though. Why do people expect manga companies to just follow MangaPlus when they wouldn’t be as successful (and still lose money)?
The American comic industry can barely sustain itself , so people really think localized manga would be an easy process?

see steaming in general
pretty much killing off the film/tv industry

The difference is that manga sells.
KnY outsold the entire comic book industry.
But jap suits are retards who suck at giving what people want

just based on stuff that i have installed on my pc right now, tf2, katawa shoujo, deltarune, mm8bdm.

Is the red squirrel manga downloader broken for anyone else?

dlraw, manga-zip, shobonnexus, manga-zone, all the same shit

Enjoy every site you use getting whacked by corpos

how new are you?

Meh, I've already found a replacement that emulated the reading experience I liked about mangadex.
This will mostly affect mobilefags and their ilk, not my problem.

I still haven’t been given a good reason why everyone doesn’t just use comick now . There’s nothing stopping groups from uploading there.

spill, i need to compare alternatives

weebcentral search is dogshit

Malaysia, Philippines, Indonesia

What with these SEAniggers?
