EMERGENCY EARLY THREAD.
What are your plans moving forward now that mangadex is in its death throes?
Scanlations
The only question is where scanlations will be uploaded to. MD was convenient because virtually everyone uploaded there. If you have a reading list, any list, all you have to do is wait for this new place to hopefully appear. Old chapters and official translations can usually be found elsewhere.
Seems like we have to wait and see how this shit settles.
My only plan right now is to download anything I want to read.
What are your plans moving forward
Learning nihongo for real this time
just reupload everything to mangadex again, duh
what jap gon' do?
What are you supposed to do if you're a Japanese manga publisher? People say they'll stop pirating if they put out high quality non-MTL localizations to purchase. How do you afford the cost of that when you're competing against fans who will do it high quality for free?
is hiring a few guys really that much for a multi-billion yen zaibatsu? fuck, it could be even easier for them since they don't have to clean the pages before, or could actually consult the author or editor to clear up confusion
Why dont they just make region lock for exclude access from US? Japs and publishers don't give a fuck about rest of the world
At least one group tried that and the reuploads got deleted again
then do it again?
You guys know how to? I use mangadex dot zip, but I'd like to know of alternatives. I know of cubari, but Idk how to download full series from there.
Hakuneko and Mihon maybe?
What sites even do proper quality uploads? Feels like there's only a handful ones besides Mangadex and they're mostly niche.
I'm running Suwayomi for my needs.
Nooo not my translated bl manga
copy everything on different server
remake the site under new name
restrict how to access
no usasians allowed
Join comick discord and ask upload permissions
corporate japan is full of out of touch old boomers who dont think of doing this
and when they DO hire translators, they'll give them terrible overworked schedules while also choosing tranny / fag translators who mistranslate everything
It was an inevitability and retards grew comfortable as they always did. This was ALWAYS going to happen just as it did for literally every other massive aggregator in the past. How many fucking times do people need to repeat history before they get it through their thick skulls that any pirate site that can't evade DMCAs will always die?
Let's see what new retarded manga aggregator owner will take the stage and walk down the same road that Onemanga, Mangafox, Batoto and now Mangadex walked.
bl manga is probably the one that would be hit the least, because those scanlators still host on separate sites/discords instead of dumping it all on mangadex.
Join comick discord
No, thank you
Mangadex is still there?
The only question is where scanlations will be uploaded to
I feel like no one will create a successor unless mangadex dies completely, so we'll be left with no central place to upload to.
Legit hope MD dies, and quickly.
No shit I was being ironic and boasting how nice it is to be a faggot.
714 series got their chapters removed, there's a list on the subreddit of mangadex.
I really don't understand, why they always make it easly accessible? Just make it like sad panda and add region locks
Sadpanda is removing a shitload of content too though.
Continue to not use that dogshit website.
how about you pay for the manga you read, faggots
Sadpanda doesn't evade DMCAs, no idea how it still floats to be honest, maybe most of the hentai publishers are just give less of a fuck or are more market savvy than the mainstream ones.
Pay for manga that was never sold in your country and/or is not even printed or distributed anymore
We're scanlators, we actually do.
Do you pay to suck all that dick anon?
A lot of the shit isn't available outside of Japan you retarded mutt, nor is it expected to ever be available in (you)r country much less globally.
The one series I upload there is still up so I'm just going to keep uploading there. It gets to every other site through scraping anyway. I also keep the files so I can upload elsewhere if necessary.
I'm not overly attached to MD for reading either and have been reading more and more in Japanese. I knew something like this would happen at some point but people always seem surprised.
I hope Anon Babble is already making a replacement. I'm sure the logo will be sick.
The last time Anon Babble tried doing that it ended up being a waste of time because people just congregated to another site.
the other sites all seem ok so far, wonder if they'll also get hit as well but for right now I'm not panicking
mangahelpers dies
batoto dies
mangadex gets hombre'd
mangadex gets dmca'd
it's finally time to dl something
FMD2 works great.
What I don't understands from these DMCA, do these retards do not understand that these people provide free advertisement for their series? What do they expect to happen if they lose this amount advertisement in the world? Third worlders and such can only read these from pirate sites and then they pay for merch of it.
I'm from south america and buying any of the manga I read it's impossible from here due to the shipping costs and the prices.
kek
There's only so many ways and so many times you can say "they don't understand, they don't care"
Why Daiz do this...
Where will I read shit that doesn't get uploaded to places besides Mangadex? It's definitely in the process of dying.
I've just been spamming gallery-dl all day. With the right config it even packs each volume into neat .cbz archives.
What are you supposed to do if you're a Japanese manga publisher?
Leave it the fuck alone.
What's a complete list of nuked series?
They are retards, they don't care, they are old and don't understand marketing, they are insane, and this needs to be said again that they are FUCKING retarded.
I wonder what a lot of groups will do, permadrop shit because they only use mangadex? Only post on their shitty discords?
There are a lot more than are on this list. It's at least 1000 series that got nuked.
is there a torrent out there with a somewhat up to date library?
He needs to remind us from time to time.
Executives are retarded, but Japanese executives are like the biggest retards on earth
DAMN HIM!
I'm expecting only shitty discords for now to because they probably want to lay low, either that or literally just disappear.
Retard
Kumo desu ga, nani ka? has been BTFO'd too, just noticed it.
Good! The manga's shit.
when they DO hire translators, they'll give them terrible overworked schedules while also choosing tranny / fag translators who mistranslate everything
Fucking this, it's one thing to be uptight "muh Nihōn" cunts, but it's worse that they dont bother to have a bit of scrutiny on who does the TL.
And no, not knowing english is not an excuse
They simply don't care. They see free content, they scream piracy and cry to their lawyers to throw out some DMCAs. When a shareholder sees free content, they can only think about how their magic money line won't go up as fast as it should be and scream at the CEO to start throwing DMCAs to make it go up faster.
Besides, it's not mangakas making the money in the end, its the publishers and their shareholders.
What happened to Mangaloid?
Legit hope MD dies, and quickly.
why?
They dont care
Their japanese clients dont care
And faggot ass translators will love it because then it means they can gouge more.
I had a thought. It may be retarded.
Make a firm in America for "translations"
hire only hobbyist translators who already make money in other ways
Pay translators per chapter, only a small amount like $30-$50 per chapter
Sell these translations to major Japanese publishers
Have them release them officially so they can still make money while you get a small amount from them paying for the TLs
In theory this'd sidestep the trannylator issue entirely since you can just tell them to make it better before selling it to the firm.
Honestly if I had any serious capital I'd make a TL firm and market myself as "No Censorship, no BS" TL company
Some not on the list I've noticed
mangadex.org
mangadex.org
mangadex.org
mangadex.org
mangadex.org
mangadex.org
mangadex.org
mangadex.org
They killed Date Chizuko...
People will hold on if the decay is slow and no one will move to the hypothetical new website if the dex still barely works.
I explained in the previous sentence.
If you had any business sense, you'd know how to get a loan.
The problem is, you could do that, but then payment processors show up and tell you to follow their guidelines, or they'll fuck you in the ass.
Fuck, some of the stuff i read are shitdex only groups
I guess I could post my new chapters on Anon Babble, but no one gives a fuck about the series I work on here
Sue them
Yay, I will pay for Otome Sensou, a manga that has never had an official translation. I will purchase all the works I enjoy that have never been released in my country. I will happily enjoy my hard copies of manga that are out of print even in Japan.
Oh, wait.
Sell these translations to major Japanese publishers
Why would they want to buy translations when they can either just license it to a gaijin company and let them distribute, or if they want to distribute it in overseas markets themselves they'll just hire some SEAniggers for peanuts the way they always do
Any works that were too unpopular to get scraped by the aggregator sites combined with an uploader retarded enough to not back up their work?
How about no.
What series?
That's a hydrogen bomb vs coughing baby type lawsuit.
Hmm, if only I could...
Well here in my actual situation, any money I currently have is going to debt and savings.
It may be futile but I'd rather pay court fees than allow these cunts to pull off their double standards
where are all the english license announcements? surely they should be pouring in right about now?
c'mon, you jap dinosaur fucks. you want me as a paying customer, don't you?
Where can I read this giantess ojou san series I never heard about before until today?
They would rather have no audience than a non-paying non-Japanese audience. To them you are all insects.
ah i thought you were one of those people who hates MD just because it was popular
Like they care about the english market. It's just knee jerk scorched earth without any deeper thought.
Honestly not my problem, but you have my condolences.
half of my bookmarks got bretty much nuked
im fucking livid, especially since i have barely time to read now due to work
if only torrents for manga were as easily available as for anime
guess its time to go back to all the shitty unmanaged aggregators and waste a lot of time shifting through garbage
They have to care, i haven't checked any numbers yet but at this point it has to be more a large portion of their revenue, no? Anime is insanely popular overseas
I'm looking at my library feeling like that scene in the Incredibles where Mr incredible is going through the supes kill list
I'm desperately trying to find a bunch of discords to join and sites to bookmark
Just pay for a product that in most cases they refuse to sell
Are you retarded?
since i got a lot of disposable income i was genuinely about to go and pickup some manga that got licensed in my post soviet shithole
but its all censored to shit
why for the everloving fuck of god would i ever pay a ridiculous amount of money for an inferior version of a product
im a born and raised poorfag, i will never throw out cash into the dumpster willingly
Great bait mate, I give it an 8
is it one of our series?
nuke it
is it out of print/unavailable outside of Japan/etc?
don't care, it's one of our series, nuke it
No other consideration
Based humble heroes in suits shielding Japan from Perry's black ships that are scanlations. Popularity abroad caused nothing but harm to anime and manga.
If they actually cared, we would have a Steam equivalent for Anime, Manga and Light Novels. Heck include shit from Korea and China too. But no, China might eventually do something, but never expect intelligence from those Korea and (especially) Japan.
dang it, they got yuusha ga shinda
I will just rely on new chapter dumps on Anon Babble for manga going forward
It's more of an issue of actually finding out that something got updated with more chapters than were to find them. I can't be bothered to just wait and see what gets posted randomly.
I will never pay for digital media even if it becomes cheap and widely available and well-translated
I will continue to illegally download things I like with no regard for how it impacts some corporation's bottom line
mangadex.org
WTF WHHHHHYYYYY. Why would this get targeted?!?! It's one of the manga I completed before I started downloading manga and I never went back to download this one.
Doubt it. dlsite stopped showing loli to non-jap IPs. They coulda did a pixiv and just have people change their location, but I think they're just happier with jap only. Wouldn't be surprised of these publishers are the same.
i assume it's basically anything from a bunch of publishers that got nuked regardless of whether or not it's got an official english release, that's from square enix and it looks like their other stuff is gone too
retard
I’m sad because mangadex centralized my updates. Now I have to somehow export my reading list and put it in tachiyomi or whatever. Any tips on tools for this?
I see some duplicates. Someone will shorten the titles or use EN/JP and OP doesn't verify it.
Why is it so fucking hard for web developers to make a reader that isn't scrolling down, and an interface that doesn't look like complete garbage?
Mangadex was the only one that got it right, and now everything worth reading is gone.
I saw someone complaining that Spill It! Cocktail Knights (Bareteru! Cocktail Nights for any archive searchers) wasn't on nyaa. I happened to download everything a couple of weeks ago, so here it is: catbox.moe
I don't see Hyouge Mono anywhere.
Look at your library, and click the four square icon to make everything into a thumbnail. Next, click and drag from the right of the "### titles" text to the bottom right of the page. This will highlight all the manga titles on that page. Copy and paste them into a text editor, then repeat for all pages. Don't forget the other categories, like Plan-to-Read and Completed. If your text editor is Notepad ++, once you finish copying all the titles, you can go to "Edit -> Line Operations -> Sort Lines Lexicographically Ascending" to sort all the titles alphabetically.
It's what I did, at least. A little extra manual work to make sure I find the titles elsewhere, but worth it.
I wish mangakas would pay freelancers to translate their manga and they put it up on a patreon or something similar. The mangaka for Jin did it
I gave up on asking seven seas for Gash Bell. At least Baki is seemingly getting an english print soon
Because those sites are cheap shit made to be abandoned in case of things like Mangadex is going through. While MD was super slow in making their shit look and work the right way, they actually cared enough to go through that effort. All irrelevant in the end, DMCA comes for all and if they can't evade then they die.
I need to do something like this.
I am following nearly 300 manga, most of which I don't really care about and/or rarely get chapters or are dropped. I'm going to have a big clean out of my MD and MU reading lists. I was foolishly using Neko, so I will manually add the series to whatever app and list becomes my new go-to. At least I archived everything I'd finished over the many years and some things I had read part way, but I wasn't up to date with it.
I can't really give a shit about any website reader since I only read on my tablet.
Then why doesn't mangadex open source their shit?
Yeah but where do you download and scrape your chapters from? Nobody is really posting on their blogspot anymore.
oh, speaking of gash bell it looks like the only series from him that was hit was animal land for whatever reason
Whatever site has the best quality.
Thanks anon
This is shit I heard years ago, but basically the owner was retarded enough to think that if the site got big enough, he could make it go legit in some way. Obviously the effort lead to nowhere, never mind that whatever legit way was chosen would kill the site anyway.
(Same anon) That's why didn't open source it is the theory, because he was trying to be a jew.
Is there any way to do something like this that also includes the name of the author and the japanese title?
Baka has literally been around for decades at this point retard.
Sadly, not that I'm aware of. You'll need to do that manually.
Comick doesn't have the exact same files Mangadex has/had, they're smaller in file size albeit same resolution
Better than nothing, most other sites don't have the right size and resolution
Mangapark has the exact same files in at least some cases
Cut off one head, three appear in its place
They are retarded boomers, they are the same retards that want to push DRM into everything because according to their retarded homosexual Keynesian assessors it's making them lose money. Piracy has always ended up being beneficial in the long term.
It's old shit that doesn't even have thumbnails on the releases page, doesn't have a way to filter shit outside of the search page and even on the search page you can't sort by updated or newest work.
we're losing money by letting people read this in english for free!
we wouldn't make enough money by licensing this into english!
Nah, people say this but something is always lost along the way every time this happens.
Nothing ever really replaced KAT or RARBG
worst part about mangadex dying is that it was the primary way I found out about new and interesting manga
they want to "fight piracy" to earn money but they kill off one of the biggest forms of advertisement? congrats now you have no money AND no relevancy
reach out to FFLPayments maybe
they're marketing themselves as a payment processor for the gun industry
Didnt they fuck up the UI like 5 years ago? I switched to Tachiyomi because its easier to read manga on my phone vertically than on my PC
I remember alot of Anon Babble lamenting the tranny devs for ruining MD
Mangadex sold out to the publishers, they made their bed and now they are probably thinking how this could have happened to them.
One's for sure, all that begging for donation money will blow up in their faces now that most of the popular manga is wiped from their site.
Yes but like an immune system we tend to repair most of it
These motherfuckers have been talking shit for years about "Muh Global Audience"
Shut the fuck up
Stubborn Japanese company shoots itself in the foot over "the principle of the thing." Fork found in kitchen.
5 years ago maybe but nowadays mangadex is the best reader by a mile
RARBG
i miss it so much...
Somehow I doubt Smith & Wesson's payment processor is going to stand up for the sale of loli manga.
If they had used a decentralized cloud storage to host the content, would DMCA even work to take down the content?
I find it a bit crazy too since Mangadex also lets the officials upload their works. Literally directs readers to their sites.
not S&W, more like "Joe Gunstore down the street"
also the guy doing the lawyering for them (the guy who told me to tell you this) seems like a cunnysseur
Guns and anime/manga ironically share a lot of similar issues
List of publishers in the DMCA so far:
Kadokawa Corporation
Kodansha Ltd.
Shueisha Inc.
Shogakukan Inc
Square Enix Co., Ltd.
Futabasha Publishers Ltd.
Hakusensha Inc.
What tf is KAT?
Not anymore!
Guess it's kodansha giving it trouble
kickass torrent
I legitimately wouldn't have bought most of my manga if I didn't read them for free online first.
Their business model is profitable especially thanks to fan translations making their products well-known to begin with.
taken down in 2016
Thats hella old. It was like 10 years ago
9/11 was 24 years ago and i still remember it fondly
This, it is a matter of time before piracy is crushed one way or another. Torrent sites can be ip blocked by providers now for exampel
that's what i assume too, but do they still have any legal rights to the series to do that? i thought raiku owned all of his series under his company now
A few months ago, overseas fans of a small manga that was about to get the axe mobilized to buy JP volumes in order to increase sales and potentially save it. It sold out in multiple places.
See that happening again without scanlations to make people aware that some series even exist? Me neither.
Mohammad...
I want God punching the nip seaboard so hard that it triggers the sakurajima, fuji and aira caldera eruptions alongside the earthquake and china invade it after it as Divine punishment against every old men and women in japan
Focus on the jap market and leave the much smaller USA market alone?
hire fans who have no idea how much their work is valued and severely underpay them
fire them when they realize it
rinse and repeat
Moshe..
this
not like manga being translated to ENGLISH will precent JAPANESE SPEAKERS TO PIRARW THE ENGLISH MATERIAL
fucking nip kikes.
Whats a subreddit?
Nyaa can still be used but it's still very inconvenient for scannies, who can't trivially update chapters, and for readers who has to hunt for new chapters on tracker.
How would a hypothetical manga host fare?
hosted in some shithole like russia or turkey
uses IPFS for file serving backend for resiliency
offers credit/karma/cumpoints for useless perks if you dedicate your bandwith and storage for decentralization, offer more credits for popular shits but let user pick the thing they wanna mirror
basically copy MD for UI
Oh thank god. Dragon Ball Super is still avaliable
retard
am i fitting in guiz??
High quality? Really? REALLY?
Have you even looked at the trash that makes up 99% of what's posted on Mangadex?
MTL, shit even worse than MTL, obvious Latinx translating into broken English, and even the "proper" English translators are garbage in most cases; either full of cringe zoomer slang that's somehow worse than official TLs, or just plain unreadable thanks to their goddamn awful typesetting. And don't even get me started on those groups that think it's a good idea to do retarded shit like censor manga just to funnel people into their retarded paywalled sites.
I've been reading manga for over 25 years, and the golden era is dead and buried, to the point that even the Spanish scene is putting out better quality and doing it faster (Outside when they try to make their own English translations). The scene nowadays is an absolute fucking joke.
Ponko became a 500 yen coin...
I pay the fair price that art deserves, $0
you dont have to be a redditor to know it exists and its basic structure anon.
stop being a schizo retard.
you aint gonna do shit you fat fucking pussy
look at your pathetic ass trying to act tough over internet tribalism, you're a fucking loser
I can't understand this train of thinking, I should be paid to read the thoughts and works of lesser men not the other way around
NYOO
Has anyone noticed certain titles disappearing from the library? I am following Shiori Experience, which is shown as reading on the butchered manga page, but it does not appear in my library, on any of the tabs
I have noticed it, but only in that the title randomly changes for no fucking reason. Is that the case for you, or do you actually mean the series straight up vanished entirely? If so, I don't think I've seen that since Mangadex went down and turned into the shitty site it is now.
oh god i was hoping only the chapters are gone, i'm sure im forgetting a few titles i read but never bothered to learn the JP names
Hell, Anon Babble did the same with Watamote (which is now also gone from mangadex), saved it from the axe or authors quitting
It was completely missing from the library. I exported all my library content manually, and the number of titles matched the one MD reported (403 titles). After removing the manga from the library on its page and readding in back, it appeared in the library and the number of titles increased to 404 in reflect this.
Looks like a UI bug, and not something malicious, but now I'm really starting to get paranoid about not even being able to export all my follows
That's always been the case with piracy.
Which one?
Meh the official stuff isn't good to begin with, but I'm at least willing to give mangplus a try.
I'm still pissed about this shit
This is the reward they get for trying to appease publishers
Mangadex gives you links to where you can support the series officially
So funnily enough they are losing sales by doing this
So, panda?
How is it the one manga that hasn't had a new chapter translated in over a year, is the one thing in my list that didn't get pulled from Mangadex?
Including some super obscure/rare stuff that was unavailable anywhere else.
And a bunch of decades old series which have been fully translated both by fans and officially for ages. Which no one minded until now
Well the series page will stay up so it should help actually.
Love Bullet
it is a matter of time before piracy is crushed
lmao
These:
publishers, if they had a link in their MD page like: then they got purged no questions. It's the easiest way for MD side to take them down and the reason "why is my 'obscure mango' with 5k follows taken down with this sweep?"
some of them are already doing that but from what I remember it's mostly doujins and not serialized manga
Literally the only series I'm buying that doesn't have a scanlation is Dead Mount Death Play, and that's probably the least popular one because basically nobody knows it fucking exists because it has no scanlation. It even got an anime, and people will still be surprised when I tell them that Ryogo Narita wrote a reverse isekai manga.
Why would you care if people who you aren't selling to pirate your content?
Time to revive Madokami
I'm too lazy to check that, but fucking Nikaidou Hell Golf got nuked...
KYS corprate shill
You can read the official translation on chink pages.
I love the series but I think that Narita is expanding too much, I thought he learnt his lesson with StrangeFake.
this only happens when things like oneshots from anthologies get merged into the parent anthology title
They're supposed to go get a real job.
Most businesses would prefer that their content gets locked in a basement never to be touched again than to have it distributed for free.
Such is life, innit.
I would not have read One Piece through 'orthodox' means, I had the full series up to that point in a cbz file and went through it using as little processing power as possible. Now I am caught up and a fan, which makes me want to get the actual, tangible goods out there that no doubt make far more money for them than just the manga sales in American markets.
The power of word of mouth is incredible, but when algorithms force people to talk about specific things at specific times, and sharing screenshots of your cool video game to your social media suddenly becomes unrealistically expensive, it can't be harnessed
You can read the official translation on chink pages.
Or I could just read the physical copies I own...?
How?
You can't even connect with a new account.
Baka has never let anyone down. Well, maybe when they got rid of links to released chapters.
Probably just read western literature desu
give me Taiga for manga, that's all I'm asking for
Yuugami-kun was taken down
kuyashiii
I dunno since I haven't used it in a while and have no idea what's the current state of the site, but I just checked and my old account still works. I remember the site practically died when they removed the upload perms from almost everyone ages ago.
All modern pokespe arcs got nuked
SV was left alone somehow
They fear scarlet
I think you're right. The 'frontier' internet closed a long time ago and now we're well on the way to it becoming a sanitized entity controlled by corpos and governments. I don't know about teh 1337 HAXORZ darkzweb or whatever the fuck may go on there, if it exists piracy will probably be confined to places like that while us normalfags on Anon Babble will just get squeezed out. I can't see an Anonymous friendly internet in, say, 20 years time.
All of Kaiji is gone now
English publisher is still taking years to finish part 1
pain
You had 3 years for learn moonrunes.
I dunno, gun owners under the age of 50 are the biggest weeaboos and wincest fapping Anonymouses you're likely to find in any interest group.
I'm at the point of just hoping that I can fuck off to some log cabin kind of house in the woods and have all the manga I cam salvage with me until the day I die.
At least when you're out in the woods, a lot of other hobbies become easier to do
Until the government decides to raid your property and kill you!
When I'm tired of society I'll do it
There is a lot of overlap with gun ownership and being an otaku but there's also a lot of anime hating tradcucks on the gun side too
buy the digital version to translate and post on Anon Babble
pay out the ass to get a physical version imported too
i'm doing more than my part
i know moonrunes and will use it when a scanlation is completely dead, but reading something in your native language is just a better experience, man. provided the translation is shit, that is.
Amemiya-san is gone
it barely had 1000 bookmarks
such a simple trick with so much power
Don't worry, FKMT will resume publication of the latest part by the time they catch up.
Giant Ojou Sama nuked
Exept the most recent 5 chapters, those are fine
What?
With the way things are going, I wish them good luck
It wasn't even connected to any of the Pokemon Special pages until yesterday, so probably survive the purge cause Comeso didn't realize it was there.
the government
Global chino-russian takeover and fall of western civillization soon, what government?
RaiRaiRai got nuked except the one last chapter
all of part 1 was available officially in english on bookwalker at one point, although it's gone now
probably true
the dmcas were for specific chapters, series that had new chapters put up recently were probably put up after they compiled the chapters for the dmcas so they'll probably get taken down eventually too
We really need better piracy practices, we have been lacking in this last decade, we got to complacent and lazy
They removed my 2 series but not Bocchi the Rock... Ripemango won again.
Honestly I think the best way to describe the reasoning behind them doing this is: assblasted.
It's not strictly logical, it's just they mad.
I migrated everything that was killed on mangadex to different sources and then set up suwayomi to automatically download all my followed series so this can't happen again.
I say it as a way for more people to know that it exists and it's easily available without outright spoonfeeding.
I'm more worried about new chapters. Sounds like the subber is gonna give up if the DMCAs continue.
That's called sovl.
Sovl is better than quality.
I'd rather gouge my eyes out than read something in my native language.
it's okay if ehg goes down because we have nhentai
When I realized the "numbers" were always nhentai I almost had an aneurysm. It's a mental illness like zoomerism combined with newfaggotry. Future looks grim.
how do all these shitty chink/russian aggregators manage to survive without being DMCA'd?
They get DMCA'd, they just don't care.
chink/russian
there's your answer
Pretend they don't know how to read when it comes
oooh my science bakagaijin u haff to do the needful and deleet its mine mine mine ablooo ablooooo
"...no?"
alternatively
"ok *changes to a different domain in like an hour with all of it back*"
better piracy practices
I'll start
1) Block anything that isn't Manga (comics originating from Japan)
2) Block third worlders
I THOUGHT THOSE MOTHERFUCKERS ARE ACTUALLY OK WITH IT
Copyright law is much less enforced in those regions, meanwhile in America and the West breathing is copyrighted.
Where do you get extensions for Suwayomi?
Yeah it's on us, back in the day,no matter where a scanlation group posted, the chapter was instantly got mirrored to 921 other identical websites and nothing got lost , now there's like 5 good ones, all work slightly differently and only 2 are up do date.
Centralizing all the scalation on just MangaDex is putting a massive target on the back, "You can just DMCA me any time btw, teehee!"
Quite a lot of russian aggregators folded under russian license holders over the years actually. As for external copyright holders - lol, what can they even do?
People running piracy sites need to actually read the laws, there's a lot a website can legally do to make it a complete bitch to send a request if you are autistically to the letter of the laws.
It won't stop a sufficiently dedicated angry jap lawyer, but it'll at least make their lives hell
But what can be done about DCMA? As long as it exists, any aggregator will be in danger
They’re not in danger, they can just ignore it
if the dirty gaijin wants to read my manga then have them pay. Shut it down
Can't I just host in Russia or some other hellhole?
Mangadex was always fickle.
They removed most of Murenase! Seton Gakuen translations because people cried about Rapeman.
You probably can. mangadex wanted patreon/kofi gibs so there's a person with an adress the japs could sue.
mangadex wanted patreon/kofi gibs
kek fuck 'em
Absolutely nothing has changed there for years. In its current form it can never be a substitute for MD so I'm not sure if I would want the upload restrictions lifted and the site to be crashed by millions of users and probably exposed to legal action in doing so. It's a good place to get some difficult to find official Eng tank releases, but most of what's there is also on nyaa.
upload image files to some kind of blog hosting platform
link these files from your aggregate site
"take down this material, it belongs to us"
sorry bro we don't actually host the files, just link to them
What wholesome and comfy romance is there in western lit? I am of the same mind as you but I need this shit.
how many times must you all learn not to put all your eggs in one basket?
What is keeping all the publishers for going the same route the Manga+ app did? If most of the stuff I read was on a simulpub app I'd pay the sub no problem, if there were a few different apps it'd be annoying but still an acceptable alternative to waiting years for physical releases.
My fellow innawoods, drawbridgefag nigga. I have archived everything I liked out of what I've read or watched since 2007. Now I only hope I can see the end of a few series that are ongoing - then I will be done.
maybe they're planning on expanding their publishing to take over more of the overseas market instead of handing over rights to other publishers and this is a precautionary measure
Do japs have easy to access websites with all the scans on them? Otherwise what's the point, I'm not going to buy every physical release of stuff I'm interested in and the language is useless to me besides enabling my weeb hobbies.
anybody going to kodansha with me ?
Do japs have easy to access websites with all the scans on them
"(manga title in japanese) zip" will generally get you raws. otherwise just go on nyaa.
MU needs to just link to blogs again. We need to go back to XDCC, DDL and a reader of Anon's choice.
Fuck progress, fuck streaming, fuck normalfags, fuck the nu-internet and phoneposting and non gatekept anime and manga.
eh I'm mostly joking, I'm not diligent enough to learn Japanese. I gave Chinese 5 years of steady work in high school and as soon as I got to college I completely forgot about it since there was nothing I was interested in that was in Chinese. I don't want to put in that same work again and just wish I had picked Japanese instead.
I already do go to nyaa for raws of stuff where the scanlator gave up after a few chapters though.
Is that the android app of choice? What about Tachi SY?
I need a new, non MD based one now.
Maybe this is not the thread but please someone knows where I can download all of Tsumanuda Fight Town on english?
Fucking Mangadex only have 3 chapters so far
Every fucking time
so where do you go to read manga now?
Don't want to make a discord just fir use as a file hoster and force no talking
Don't want to run yet another 10 different fucking MEGA accounts
Considering throwing up a blogspot but would have to use trash download sites or open up one of my NAS because you can't just attach shit anymore
I get too fidgety with edits and volume changes to deal with torrenting
I know im being lazy because only 1 one shot and one manga I helped with but the one shot meant quite a bit to me because I loved the artist.
Maybe I should just make a mailing list.
a lot of scanlators already do this with cubari links that get mirrored by their discord. Mangadex strike is annoying but I'm not informed enough to know whether the teams working on those titles are also conceding or even if other websites will keep the titles up or not. Like Dungeon Meshi is still available on nyaa so I'm not that bothered but it is annoying that mangadex will no longer track chapters for stuff that's still ongoing.
Interesting info
the Dungeon Meshi on nyaa is the official scanlation, which is pretty "trannylator" desu
Companies are like women, they lie
The japs will just strike again, this info means nothing sadly.
make a mailing list.
honestly this would be my preferred solution for any scanlator ITT, just a mailing list with every new chapter, no discord to keep alive and moderate, communication solely through a blog or chapter notes, make it more one-way so that that readers don't get a place to whine at the scanlator all the time.
yeah I know but it's better than nothing. Is there somewhere I can torrent the scanlated version? I had this same issue with Golden Kamuy and My Wife Wagatsuma-san where the scans have incredible end of chapter notes that explain all the cultural references.
Do an online business course
Take out a loan
Start a micropublisher
License and publish manga
Anon, think. They're not denying that what's written there is true, it's just they reckon they're now at the stage where they set the hook by pulling the plug on the useful scanlations and force us to buy it direct. They know they can't do it completely but they know they can get more and more people to give up and just buy it each time something gets DMCA'd.
You don't think they're kindly and selfless folks who'd feel a debt of gratitude to the gaijin scanlators and pirates who popularised their works and formed a new market, do you? I can't say their line of thinking is entirely wrong, but they could be a bit more humane and leave the stuff they haven't gotten licensed yet at least; because there they really are shooting themselves in the foot.
EH have a website with all the links
I think that's what Jawsh (spinyback/HnG/yankis/duwang) wants to do in England, actually.
Sorry anon but that shit is now only available on mangaplanet by suscription.
Oh please Jap suits are the biggest, pettiest cunts.
just say no, dmca has no real power
It's the same as the user agreements you have to sign before playing a game, it has no legal value, it's just there to scare you
Thanks anon! Would you happen to know who does the scans for Bugle Call as well? I'd like to keep track of it until it gets axed
This sounds like a troll but i can confirm i've seen multiple times that the admit replied "no fuck you" to a dmca request and the emails just...stopped.
I don't know how many people just got sued after replying that, but the "fuck off im behind 7 proxies" tactic has a nonzero success chance.
They don't instantly fold and just move to another domain. Old kissmanga had like gorillion iterations before it actually died for real.
It's time for GNUnet.
there's so much money to be made if they offer an official manga app with a sub though, why don't they just do that?
I really don't know. It should be pretty easy to make something that isn't a Kmanga tier fuckup, but they just don't.
The downside is that you'd need to pay for like one from each fucking publisher and it's be that gay as a bag of dicks DRM content that you totally ((((((own))))) when you buy it (you don't own it at all, can't download it, can't archive it, can have it if they fold and disappear).
Anon that's not profitabre!
We can't make rine go up fast enough!
In fact, they would waste time and money suing foreign sites to have manga removed that they don't even intend to sell.
It's take the time to find someone who can be held responsible, build a case related to the laws in question in the guy's country/country of the site, etc. All that for a product that they don't even intend to sell outside of Japan or don't even sell themselves, just the exploitation rights.
So yeah, just ignore them
Because they're a bunch of retarded boomers
They're not asking for the content to be removed with DMCA because they intend to sell it, but because in their minds, every pirated copy is one less sale, even if the product isn't available in other countries/out of production.
To be fair I prefer something like that over drowning the website in ads.
I want to believe there'd be a two year period where some golden app manages to get most publishers onboard with some cheap sub price, just like when Netflix started streaming.
But yeah it'd be exactly as you say. Still, that's preferable to the nothing we have right now if you don't speak Japanese. If I want to own something I'll buy it, it's fine to pay a sub for a rotating digital library imo. It's not some fuckery like buying games on steam or the psn.
yes but preferably without the suck
Honestly I can compromise
And even with vidya having steam, pirating is still an option
for real...Just checking out the number of views and the glazing in the comment section of some titles on Mangaplus gives you a good look at how many people are ready and willing to pay a monthly fee for this
How would they distribute any earning to the original authors?
I think it's more like not letting people squat on land that you might make a profit from, even if you never actually intend to ever exploit the land and the people squatting are improving on it at the moment.
Just look up the-eye's DMCA policy, the amount of hoops they (completely legally) make you jump through to send them a notice will make any jap lawyer go "this wirr cost mirions" and give up.
They literally make you scan the docs proving you have the rights before even looking at the notice.
The copyright shitshow the world is suffering from wouldn't be as bad if people just read how fucking stupid those laws are, you can pirate shit in a thousand ways and have it somehow be legal.
Sounds like the modern day developer
yeah I always pirate first and then will buy the game if I'm digging the first few hours, preferably directly from the creator rather than going through steam if possible. Especially true if it's some small dev group like for Stardew.
Honestly I have no idea, I'm speaking out of frustration rather than knowledge. I remember reading an article in French from Kana about how it was sometimes difficult to convince publishers to hand over rights at the right price point because they don't make much money on translated copies (depending on the contract), since it's difficult to estimate the value of your projected manga sales in another country they always ran into problems in negotiations. I can't imagine the complexity of online profit shares on an app that would regroup titles from different publishers. If it's a single publisher app like M+ it'd probably be relatively easy though since it's in-house. Maybe some more knowledgeable anon will read this and chime in, I'm very much not of the publishing world.
Viz/Mangaplus is pretty much the only one that gets it right.
Cheap sub. First and last 3 chapters are free and there are a bunch of manga there are fully free.
No coin bullshit.
Holy SHIT I hate the coin bullshit
Then just set up a tier list of prices
They're retarded, it's as simple as that. There's a common phenomenon in Japanese business where they just want to have an attempt at fixing a problem on record. So the employees will do something absolutely braindead and the higher ups will go "Man, it looks like this just can't be solved. But we really tried!" and then act like they fucking did something. This is the publishers tackling piracy in an incompetent way instead of actually trying to figure something out like a simulpub subscription for their entire library or doing one by one takedowns of actually licensed titles.
Viz isn't available in my country... But yeah mangaplus is doing it the right way, I even coughed up a sub for a few months to read some stuff that wasn't free. I love that they let you read most chapters for free once too. I think the way they played it is a happy compromise, if you're really interested or want to read older stuff you can pay a sub but if you're just reading weeklies it's free.
Only thing I don't like is the comment section which is neutered to hell. I get it but what even is the poing of a comment section where you can't reply to anyone? And why didn't they boot that Emir guy spamming Palestine stuff for a few months this year lol?
Have any jap reading anons ever read an interview with publishers discussing scanlation or an industry article about it? I'd be very curious to read anything from the different jap POVs on the matter.
There are ads on the internet? You know you can just turn them off?
was available officially in english on bookwalker at one point, although it's gone now
This is kind of a peeve as well; damn near everytime a western English publisher licenses something, they always retranslate it inhouse, and take ages on it, instead of licensing the previous official English translations. For example, Kaiju 8 has two concurrent different official English translations running between MangaPlus and Viz, and Polar Opposites is getting a more Americanised retranslation by Viz even when the MangaPlus version is perfectly good (and completed).
Sometimes I want to read while taking a crap my man, and I'm not using a pihole or rooting my phone
Yeah i was like that for years but you know there are just normal browsers you can download without rooting from the big corpo appstores that have perfectly working adblocks now? if youre to lazy to search Just download brave it looks like your default browser but has an adblock
I warned the retards on the forums that bowing down to publishers will doom the site, I was only mistaken by a year it seems.
They thought they could pull a Jewcob/Crunchyroll. Fucking retards.
Greed. They can't stop themselves from doing something like k manga with coin and ticket systems. Even then you'll end up with chapters just not showing up if google or apple dont like the content like with happened to ayakashi triangle and will have to deal with a website instead.
it's all so tiresome
not from me, I would spend endless hours to make sure they don't get a dime
to be fair the bookwalker version is very ugly in terms of fonts, the covers all have the huge black area to cover the japanese title and yet the sfx is replaced in series for whatever reason (except the zawas)
unfortunately that's how they do it on their platforms in Japan/Korea.
It would literally only take one focus group and two seconds of market research to figure out that Westerners hate that coin shit and prefer subscription models. I swear these idiots don't even understand the basic concept of friction causing potential consumers to walk away.
I downloaded a couple of extensions and some manga chapters. Do you know where the downloaded manga files are located on the PC?
Even then, they should still be able to reuse an older translation even if they decide to revise the typesetting/lettering. See for example: the current releases of Shaman King and Ghost in the Shell.
Retranslating from scratch should be saved for hackjobs or total incompetence like old TokyoPop releases.
