Every other time was for voluntary and selfish reaons (thrill seeking and kira-kira). This last episode doubled down on this by making Challia save the day while she ran around getting chased by police. It could have been Machu's time to shine, when she awakened as the hero we want her to be, but they didn't take the easy way out. The Psycho Gundam is starting to bother me. It seems like the panels that come off the Gundam and start orbiting around it aren't meant to be funnels or bits.
The idea with funnels is that they're like mini drones that a mobile suit pilot controls psychically through psycho frame tech.
But they're still equipped with propellant thrusters and can only really operate in zero-g. They're not weightless.
The panels from the Psycho Gundam have no visible thrusters AND they're within the centrifugal force of gravity of the colony.

So my conclusion is that they're supposed to be embedded with chunks of psychoframe tech and are being controlled by Deux telekinetically.

The problem with this is, despite Gundam having all this psychic warfare, aura battles, newtype ghosts, and so on - on a physical level it's generally a grounded show. There are a lot of moments in the original shows where they take care to depict life in space and space travel with some realism.
I can accept stuff like Judau projecting his 50ft tall aura over a colony city in a psychic battle with Haman, but in context that's also something only other psychics are able to see.

Even in Char's Counterattack, it's the entire collective will of humanity resonating with the psycho frames in Amuro's Gundam that allows Axis to move and causes the Axis Shock.
That's telekinesis, but it was a huge strenuous effort that took the entire human race in a state of extreme emotion about the falling asteroid in order to pull off.

So I don't like Deux doing this extreme act of telekinesis. I don't like the Red Gundam going Zeknova without the idea that it's the whole collective will of the human race causing such an overt act of magic like that.

It's not. That has always been an undertone of Gundam but never the genre itself. The theme of Gundam is war, the impact of war on youths, and exploring pacifism/understand as a means to end war. The impact of war on youths such as Judah or Kamile cover that. They are forced to become men. GQX gives zero fucks about the impact of war on youths hence the reason they killed off a brainwashed child soldier and said nothing about it. And Machu isn't forced into anything nor does she need clan battle money. She needs to stop being lazy and get a real job.

Judau is also one of the most powerful newtypes in Gundam and ZZ is a slapstick comedy framed by Kamille's brain damage at the end of Zeta - which is to say the extreme powerlevel shenanigans of ZZ are even contextualized as potentially being Kamille's comatose fantasies, and not actually happening.

I guess my problem is with them revisiting Char's Counterattack, and doing it badly.
The entire thing that movie was doing was building up all the stress and tension and emotions related to what Char was doing to the planet, to the point where all of that finally explodes into this lightheaded burst of psychic relief and Axis magically floats away.
The ENTIRE THING is this carefully constructed plot to get both the characters in the film (and in the context of the narrative the entire human race) AND the audience in a state of heightened emotion and focused on the asteroid, to the point where the Axis Shock becomes a seemingly logical outcome.
The entire point of CCA is making magic seem real, and taking the care to construct a strong narrative to bring you there. That's like the whole thing it's doing.
It's also what the original show does in a much longer form.

1. Make the Nu-Gundam respond slightly faster to Amuro's control
2. Used to control funnels: a technological idea which is already established in the original show - zero-G bots with propellant thrusters that are tuned to respond to the brainwaves of the pilot. This is relatively believable as far as sci-fi and even within the realm of what we're capable of creating with current technology
3. Chan, while keeping the prototype piece of the psychoframe in her pocket has a moment of better intuition/aim while operating the Londo Bell gun turret
4. Hathaway sees a vision chan's spirit after he kills her. Then Amuro begins to see visions of the psychoframe and hear Chan guiding him in the final battle
5. The Axis Shock - which itself is something characters have trouble believing that they're seeing. There's the line where Londo Bell crew ask if its a computer generated image

Psycho Gundam was just an excuse to get the plot moving again

I think I just didn't notice the problems with the Zeknova.
Or maybe I was willing to go along with it because "it's a Man in High Castle" Gundam scenario, so it doesn't have to take the same care that CCA took to get the audience there.
And I'm still working on the theory that Lalah (and possibly Char and Amuro) are influencing events from BEYOND THE TIME: the idea that Lalah, from beyond the grave, gave Char the initial inspiration to steal the Gundam in this timeline.

True to a point. But you have to admit even thye had some weight behind them. with WoM and GQ have little to no weight it seems. They're literally having the Gundams doing split-second acrobatics in fights. Like they're putting litter effort into moving, while old Gundam you can see effort it takes to move a mobile suit.
