And the fight starting from the ball breaker to the end, while solid, isn't the best jojo has to offer in terms of being a fight imho. In fact as a fight I think high voltage coming right after it is better.

Its mostly carried by how much of a culmination of the part's charms it is with Josuke just lucking out but riding the wave, him surviving and crashing his funeral etc. Its good but I find it strange sitting next to others as its neither a good fight nor has too much emotional weight.

Here is my schizo theory from the few spoilers I saw anons. I think part 8 stealth introduced half conscious stands. Remember Yotsuyu's rape dialoge about Paisley Park being more usefull because of Yasuho not being aware of it. These stands use their power incredibly effectively to fullfill their master's unconscious desires/intentions but can also be used more manually like yasuho was doing this volume. Though in those cases they only work as good as their masters can use them.
This would imply that WoU full on controls the calamity but normally only activates it in a pursuit beacuse of Toru's desire of being safe. Since the unonscious of an old person would be more heavy/personalized it acts more sentient then Paisley Park. But still gets controlled by Toru when he wants. Toru may or may not be aware of its full capabilities

Sorry, but there is no good excuse for "pursuits" having an extremely loose definition, and being essentially dictated by the plot. It's just easy writing no matter how look at it.

The main character starts out with some quirks but just becomes a boring ruthless kakugoman with some admittedly cool moments. He has a stand with an overpowered ability that gets retconned pretty early into something manageable and versatile. He's actually only half Joestar and half something else.
The plot involves systematically taking down an evil group, with the first half and second half centering around facing different factions within the evil group.
The main villain keeps his identity a secret and frequently speaks through his stand and as a result is overshadowed by his own stand. The main villain's stand has a busted ability that Araki covers every base with to ensure it's actually invincible without an asspull, which the main character of course receives.
Other characters include:

An older guy with a stand that's shit in combat but good for investigation.

A guy with a bowlcut and a stand with a simple mechanical action.

A boy who looks like a girl.

A jobro whose stand is used as an excuse for him to constantly get maimed.

A girl with (usually) pink hair who awakens a stand which is sexier than she is and spends most of the part as a damsel in distress.

A traitor whose stand can cause certain death, but he only ever gets 1 win.

It can do other things, why shouldn't it?

Basicaly they work towards your unconsciocus desires when left alone like an automatic stand but can also be controlled by you like how Yasuho talks and sees through Paisley Park. These also similar 'peronalities' to their users unconscious when they are working automaticly.

I really don't see how you can use BtD on WoU. The moment you die inside the loop your death becomes certain. Fate doesn't change inside the loop while the power is active.

Jojolion has some of my favorite lore implications in Jojo, which just makes it all the more unfortunate that the story itself is so shoddy.

Paisley Park's ability consists on "Guiding Yasuho and her Allies towards the right path" essentially it's a stand that helps her user get the best outcomes.
It's a Long range stand that's both automatic and semi bound, it can bound itself to her phone and other electronic devices to help her. In it's unbound form it's less versatile but safer to use because it doesn't transfer damage to Yasuho, when bound to a phone or something it's capable of manipulating software and electronics as long as it helps Yasuho find her right path but if the device Paisley Park is possessing suffers damage so will Yasuho. Thanks to it's automatic nature the stand is excellent when it comes to information gathering.

The stand is the way it is likely because Yasuho's fighting spirit is affected by both her gender and modernist framework for problem solving. The stand looks like her because she thinks of herself (her body mind, skills, etc) as her main tool to face adversity with, but since she is a woman she doesn't usually go for a direct physical approach of problem solving (low power stand) instead she relies on indirect ways and technology to get what she wants or needs (long range and bound to technology)
There's also the possibility of her low power representing a lack of character due to some internalized feeling of helplessness considering how her life is full of problems she is never able to solve or face.

She has a character, if anything she has more character than Josuke Giovanna, the problem is that Araki fucking hates her...

Initially implied to have the same illness as the Higashikatas, it turns out that the rocks humans were experimenting on Holly with the rokakaka after having infiltrated the hospital. The weird thing is that she was the one who created the rokakaka lab and was doing research on the plant, meaning that for some reason, she knew about it before Kira.

Since we're so close to the end, I'll leave a bit of my thoughts:

After the storytime, I realized there's a pattern of villains Araki has built; he doesn't follow a clear rule but has a tendency borrowed from gothic literature and european medieval folklore, even after Part 1. The villains are: a vampire, a mega vampire, a vampire with a ghost (stands), a serial killer, the devil (could also be understood as a possession, analogous to a werewolf) and a priest with a homunculus. He obviously incorporates other elements according to the setting, such as Kira representing crimes in 90s Japan or Pucci being associated with US' racial history, but the trend's still there. So I respect him reintroducing the fantastical element in Jojolion by means of the Rock Humans, specially after such a grounded enemy as Valentine, a politician. I like how he expands on their nonsensical biology, and specially the schitzo rock animals, but I do wish he had made the Rock Humans' biology be more impactful on fights.

This is my favorite thing about Jojolion I love the conspiracy aspect of what are essentially lizard people being real, hiding in the shadows, stealing identities... and then later going insane with it when Doreimifasilati Do is shown for the first time. That's one of my favorite moments in Jojolion. It's terrifying at a primal level, knowing these parasites are pretending to be people, that there's an entire branch of evolution you weren't aware of before. It also questions what "life" even is by introducing silicon-based creatures as a possibility. So cool, and I think so cool that Araki couldn't help but make the main villain a rock human which I doubt was set in stone when Yotsuyu was shown.

NTA, and while that's true, even in Part 7 Araki didn't have Johnny and Gyro wearing the exact same clothes but smaller in their flashbacks so he really surpassed himself here

One could say he got the "mastery over hamon" stand accidentally. Spirit photograph is also one way for him to check up on Joestars and track their progress to ensure they don't find him. His stand reflects his brain chemistry and his heart's desire.

Toru dies from the rock disease. Rock humans are immune to being turned to rock, in a way that directly effects them. Source is Iwasuke eating a Rokakaka. If the rock disease turned you into literal rock, they wouldn't die from it. Rokakaka and rock humans? Directly connected, in a way that's never really explained but I think it's something to do with "sacred land" because they're attracted to it.

Araki's head either jumps to rock really easily (see lava rock and Charmingman) or there is a bombshell reveal that connects everything together we'll see in part 9. imo, again, it's something to do with devil's palms.

In SDC you can tell from the scene at the restaurant, or how everyone says they knew Avdol was alive, or the antics in the car with Oingo that they joke around with each other all the time. That's three scenes off the top of my head, there are more. You get scenes with 2-3 of them, and you get scenes with all of them. On the other hand, in SO there's no point at which everyone is actually available to hang out together and only 1 scene you see them do anything as a group, and it's a flashback. The scene playing catch with FF is the closest thing to SDC-level group dynamics that isn't a flashback, and half the group is missing.
