Why do almost no artists draw anime fanart anymore? It's all gacha games and vtubers. Are there really so few Japanese people watching anime compared to before?

Pick up a pencil nigga

I still do. Yeah it's shit, but being sad about it doesn't help. Try to learn a bit if Japanese to communicate with the few JP fans and share your fanart with them and enjoy theirs. Drawing helps a lot. You are attracting new fans if you keep drawing and posting. People see it and eventually start to draw as well.

If it's a popular anime it gets art, just don't expect it to get anywhere close to gacha especially since they pump out new girls and skins every other month.

Is it true that one reason BA dominates fanart was because Nexon paid fanartists to do so, and then it just snowballed from there? From the fanart you'd think that BA is THE biggest game in Japan, but in reality multiple other games do way better than it. It's not popular, but it gets disproportionately more art compared to its actual popularity.

It's true, but there's still plenty of anime fanart.

Help the fandom thrive and appreciate what you have. Make a twatter account and retweet the art you like and give a nice comment. Show them that there are fans of their fanworks. And instead of being sad about slop getting 500k artists be happy about every new artist joining your crowd. When I see a new fanartist for my shit I always think "Holy shit! A new artist, fuck yeah!" and comment on their art.

They started prioritizing making money over drawing whatever they want and art of gacha game characters and vtubers is at least perceived to be what will get the most views.

I'm not sure if they paid artists but I keep a nicovideo stream open on my second monitor at all times and I see at least as many Princess Connect, FGO, Uma Musume, Gakumas, Nikke, Genshin, and ZZZ streams as Blue Archive ones (and I also see as many threads for those as ones for Blue Archive with around the same amount of activity on nijiura) but I guess Blue Archive is perceived to be the most popular right now so that's what gets the most art. The most striking is Princess Connect which I actually see the most of all on nicovideo and nijiura with the most activity and yet art for it has almost ceased completely.

Yeah, it's so weird. BA is popular, but not dominant, and yet it's the one that dominates fan art for some reason, with Idolmaster being its only real competition.

I know it's because of bubbles but it's funny that I have never seen a single BA fanart in my life. I even had to google what that is right now even though I am checking twitter for anime/manga related fanart like three times a day. Never see AI shit either but that seems to be more of a moe and female porn problem and I like male shit.

because Nexon paid fanartists to do so,

I cannot be getting Nexowned in the year of our lord 2025.

It's not that different desu, 15 years ago it was touhou
Artists are whores for exposure and its even worse now when the successful monetization practices are settled on pushing out pinups of some busty blue archive girls

They started prioritizing making money over drawing whatever they want

1. No, people drawing art of the most popular anime were already doing that
2. What makes you think drawing fanart of gacha characters isn't what they want to do?

It's probably because those who draw less popular stuff without anyone asking them to only do so because they're very attached to said thing. Gachashit and vtubers are what's currently popular now, and most people, whether they're artists, writers or whatever else will always be drawn to whatever is the most famous right now.
What do you draw, anon?

All the communicability of anime, extra layers of interactivity and explorable depth, much better accessibility and availability plus longer periods of exposure to the subject to enhance familiarity and endearment to collective fans. This is why you'll get more 2hus, boats, guns and autistic fox girl memes and arts than you will for any anime series that isn't a phenomena in itself.

Why cannot BA become national game like Apex, Valo, splatoon, pokemon, MH, SF in Japan, Maple, DFO, LoL, SC1 in Korea tho? BA's sale is dropping since 2023 due to censoring swimsuits. Shill DFO instead of BA, ma'am, since DFO is national game in Korea and China. And has bikinis unlike Blue archive which lacks bikini. And DFO didn't had Korean skill shout for players before fighter type A.
BA is black ship when it is selling poorly, devs ran away due to feminist censorship, anime not doing well?
And Blue archive has zero vocal songs. No theme song for blue archive like "Ruby chan, hai! Nani ga suki"?

IMG_5459.jpg - 1170x1329, 742.06K

Why cannot genshin and BA get on this list when they are claiming themselves as "Japan killer"? These 2 didn't collab with Japanese IP at all while Blizz is collabing with Japanese IPs, like berserk for Diablo 4, SF and Gundam W for OW.

IMG_5502.jpg - 3089x3500, 1.61M

Because artists are attention whores and draw whatever gets them the most clicks.

Why cannot BA sell well tho?
Cuz BA got swimsuits censored in 2023 and no bikinis in BA cuz Korea bans bikini? And Blue archive has no vocal song like "ruby chang, hai!! Nani ga suki", due to Korean games cannot have vocal songs in game due to Kpop industry's pressure since late 2010s.

Look at GQuuuuuux it got a ton
Hard for a seasonal show to do it but the sensations are always out there

You can't convince me that Blue Archive is 13,000 times more popular than the more-watched half of seasonal anime.

Yeah. When gundam sells more than BA according to . Even Blizz and CoD is collabing with gundam.

Remember when blue archive got late with releasing a new character and all those artists started posting fan-art of it like clockwork?

You are attracting new fans if you keep drawing and posting. People see it and eventually start to draw as well.

That's probably why all those gacha companies are buying artists so they give their game an illusion of virality. Same with vcancer

fucking hate vtrannies
if you draw vtubershit you're dead to me as an artist

Japan got mindbroken by korea
Now most artist just accept commissions and make it seems like is "fanart"

I started 10 years ago when FGO dominated doujins after that gachashit took over. A couple of years ago VTubers fanworks started showing up. Basically otaku have other kinds of work to spend their money and time on.

...what part of my post lead you to think I was trying to convince you that blue archive is 13000 times more popular than season anime?

There's still anime fanart but it's all fujoshit.

bringing up gundam

Well it's Gundam and the new one has Khara people working on it. It's pretty entry level. Actual seasonal anime don't get much.

Because 'artists' are paid to draw g&v, see Fanart is at a level of extinction

That only explains BA. Some of you are too young to remember when FGO had the most doujins and it still get tons. And what's the explanation for vtubers?

FGO was the FIRST gacha game that made a billion dollar scamming people through gacha, FGO was and still is popular, gook.

Are there really so few Japanese people watching anime compared to before?

Shut up. Why cannot BA sell well tho? FGO is selling more than this according to world's grossing media list in english wiki. Does Blue archive have their own vocal song like "ruby chan hai nani ga suki"?

Because they're more immersive for the fanart consumer. Even in the most wish-fulfillment-y harem anime the MC is not actually literally you, no matter much of a stand-in for the viewer he is written to be. In gacha the MC IS literally you, you are placed directly in his shoes. And Vtubers can interact with and respond in real time to you. So when fanartists draw anime girls the consumer does have to push to the back of his mind that those girls belong to a character and not directly him. Whereas with gacha art he can say "I married them in the game, they are literally my wives" without having to take any self-insertion detours. So it makes more money because it's more in demand.

On average a seasonal anime that's from the more-watched half of anime of that season only ever gets 50 submissions of fanart on pixiv (with usually 1 of those 50 being good by the way (and statistically it's probably going to be porn)). Meanwhile gacha games boast an absurd amount of fanart in comparison. Blue Archive for example has about 650,000. 650,000 divided by 50 is 13,000. If they're really drawing what they want with nothing driving them to draw what's "more popular" instead, then you're saying that Blue Archive is 13,000 times more popular.

And DFO is national game in Korea and China while BA cannot become national game in both Korea and Japan. And DFO earns more than genshin. Is DFO PNG collector too? It is not gacha, unlike most of mobile games.

Spite Paramedic looks shit for having no heal spite being "medic" and using shitty barrier, and forcing dps with no self heal to endure with only 70% of max health.

Why do almost no artists draw anime fanart anymore?

What do you mean by "almost no"? Do you have numbers?

As an artist, it's because popular stuff gets you views, and artists that draw whatever they want will draw original characters most of the time anyway. Also, most designs from anime are pretty boring.

Then why do VNs (except for Type-Moon, Key, 07th Expansion, some of Nitroplus and Danganronpa) get no fanart?

Popular? But why is BA's actual sale so shit then? Lower than Nikke. Was it due to BA lacking bikinis since 2023? Nikke has bikini and would sell more.

VNs

Because they're old. No new VNs get made.

Japanese are high IQ so probably yes

Why are there so many obvious demoralisation threads today?

another thinly veiled anti-AI/anti-loli thread

Boy, the US government is PISSED about how made anons are getting about that.
Death to the US.

Because people who pay for JPGs on their phones will pay for JPGs on Fantia/Fanbox.
Similar thing for vtubers. Someone who is willing to give money to a whore in exchange for nothing is willing to give an artist money in exchange for something.

Should I play Blue Archive?

So what happened to Blue Archive anyway?

anti-AI is based, anti-loli is cringe. Die pajeet.

Why is BA's sale so shit spite the number of fanart? Lower than Nikke, since Hyung tae doesn't kneel to feminist unlike Yong Ha. BA cannot have bikini and vocal songs while Nikke has.

IMG_3536.jpg - 850x1485, 135.03K

Seems pretty simple. Before TV was a big deal. Now games and YouTube are the main course for most people.

huh2.jpg - 358x480, 35.64K

Should the nips invest more in gacha games? Or should they stay the same path?

But anon, they're using the anti-AI shit to leverage anti-loli.
And anti-loli to leverage anti-AI.

Anyway, most of these threads are literally made by cops I think.

What's the last manga with many fanarts? MHA?

BA's Sale plummeted since 2023 due to censoring swimsuits for feminists so that they are desperate to shill BA at all cost. And their animes not doing well, devs ran away to avoid censorship, only getting project KV killed by feminists. Why is BA considered "Japan killer" even when their state is tattered and torn a lot, by users running away to GKmas, GFL2, Nikke for nudity?

IMG_3641.png - 604x1680, 609.62K

Nobody talked about loli or ai shit until you mentioned it. Take your pills
Nobody cares about your bikini conspiracy theory either. Take your pills

Nobody cares about your pills. Take your pills

Anime is competing with a great variety of other media for peoples' attention. In the past, they had to watch anime to get their fix of cute girls, but this is no longer the case.
In a sense you can regard it as a victory for the medium, since its particular aesthetics have transcended it.

Also .

So why don't the nips invest in original gacha games like the chinks and gooks?

GKmas(literally original characters), Uma, Pokepoke, Ggen eternal became national game soon while BA, genshin, starrail, ZZZ didn't became national game(国民的ゲーム) anywhere.
Like Apex, valo, splatoon, MH, Pokemon, SF in Japan, Maple, DFO, LoL, SC1 in Korea, and DFO, WC3 in China,
DFO is more popular than any Chinkslop and BA.
Why did GKmas and Uma became national game in Japan while hoyoslops and BA cannot become national game anywhere?

IMG_3647.png - 200x200, 73.09K

Why cannot Chinkslop and BA get on this list tho, if they are Japan killer? World's grossing media chart is mostly filled with Japanese and Western IPs. No Chinese slops and BA on this list.

IMG_5502.jpg - 1130x1280, 624.02K

Paying out fanartists has been a thing since Kancole, but you have to realize that Japanese otaku have the most boring taste imaginable.

A longer-running, established franchise with an active fandom is going to get more art than a one-and-done anime. That's also not how math works at scale.
