JoJolion inconsistency

I tried to reread Jojolion to understand what Araki left behind when he finished it, but I was baffled by just more contradictions.

we know rock humans the only known source of the fruit sell it to very rich people like celebrities and athletes for 200 million yen

but we discover that Holly was experimenting on the Locacaca in a lab she created at T.G University Hospital. Her motive was to cure viruses and germs, However, she failed in her research because viruses are living organisms.

Tamaki Damo was very very careful about anyone stealing the fruit to research it, to the point they weight the tree after every transaction.

Kira and Josefumi manage to steal a branch, to grow a fruit and heal Holly's illness

Damo finds out

they were so meticulous they checked every ill person in japan until they got into Holly and her son kira, because no one would steal the fruit except to cure an illness

but they never knew about Holly having her own lab before coming into the hospital

Holly's disease was related to her brain, she started becoming forgetful

her CAT scans show parts of her internal organs and her brain missing with almost surgical precision, not turned into rocks

at first I thought this is a clue, that she was ill because of something other than the fruit, but..

in chapter 92 we find out the rock is moving across her body

this made me believe that maybe, to hide the experiments on her done by Doctor Wu, they managed to make the rock parts move, to not appear on the scans. but this was never stated outright.

the story ends with Holly remaining ill despite saving her being Josuke's whole motivation to chase the fruit

Josuke.png - 565x640, 528.03K

So Holly got the fruit from an unknown third party? a party that doesn't charge money probably, because she had enough to create a lab, this was never elaborated upon and how possible it is.
Also it's unconfirmed if her disease was caused by the fruit through the clinical trials, but implied to be, as the Locacaca mostly targets the head area and will cause similar symptoms. But the manga doesn't even tell us how she was tricked into consuming the fruit in the first place.
None of this make sense to me, only logical order of events, for her disease to not be caused by the fruit, but tricking people into believing so by mimicking the same symptoms, and the rock humans will still do their experiments, as their goal all along was to develop a new Locacaca fruit, that doesn't have side effects like targeting the brain. But Araki in one chapter magically created moving rocks across her body, and never explained why they move only in Holly's case.

What I'm sure of, is that there's a mysterious person who never showed up in the story, and is related to Josefumi being a Joestar, which Araki retconned when the manga ended despite Kerara promising to come back again and tell Josuke important information regarding Josefumi but she never did.

>the story ends with Holly remaining ill despite saving her being Josuke's whole motivation to chase the fruit

Why would Araki do this? Is he retarded?

He basically he wrote himself into a corner with the lab reveal. Either there’s a third party selling the fruit, or Holly was collaborating with the Rock Humans. Which is baffling to me because you can sweep everything under the rug if you just exclude the lab the thing.

I wonder if Araki is embarrassed about how retarded the writing is in JJL

He’s said he was satisfied with its ending and he’s delusional enough to think it. It’s not he like ever did self reflection on any of the inconsistencies in the previous parts

It’s sad to me, because he will never attempt an intricate plot again. JoJolion was interesting, it just needed more time.
Nah he just said “I want Josuke and Yasuho to be happy”, which is what japs say when they give up

We made a list of all the plot points during the recent storytime, and basically all of them were contradicted and/or retconned at some point
rentry.co/jojolionplotpoints
The big flaw with JJL (besides the retcons) is that there's little way to track progress. Every goal Josuke accomplishes feels totally dissociated from his previous one, and he fails at his last one (acquire New Rokakaka).

it just needed more time

He had 10 years.

If Araki wasn't wasting his time making fights longer than Phantom Blood, we'd get more story.

You should include her lab experiments, it’s actually the most glaring contradiction in the entire story. Or the how the rocks were moving inside her body with no explanation.
Also do you remember the kid who washed off shore with jewels? With JoJolands releasing now, we can say with certainty that he had the rock on him. So the rock was going to be a plot thread in JoJolion but was discarded and moved to JoJolands.

after vitamin C araki just gave no fucks. Don't think too hard about it as araki clearly didn't either

JoJolion was a massive blunder and killed the nuverse.

edited out of later reprints of the arc.

You’re mistaken, it was only edited out after the manga ended, a year later at that too, because Araki was having a vacation. It’s not a controversial point, it’s a retcon. There was even focus on his birthmark in the picture frame. And actually Josefumi’s birthmark appears more than Kira btw.

I remember when the "fixed" reprints came out and everyone was defending Araki for it. Why are we giving Araki this much leeway with a story he basically has full control over? It's not like he's unable to take breaks either, he just chooses to work constantly.

The stuff about Tsurugi being mentioned as having the noblest of intentions, the calamities surrounding him and the flash forward all make me think Araki had Tsurugi as a villain or at least antagonist all along but chickened out. Tsurugi with the curse was perhaps a conduit between rock humans and normal humans. That he would find a way to let rock humans live in peace with humanity. Even if that was dropped Araki definitely highlighted Tsurugi much later on with the calamities and flash forward.

They have a parasocial relationship with an old japanese man, and defend him like he’s their daddy. It’s typical fatherless behavior from mentally challenged people like hamonkek.

The Rock Human organization consists of

hospital staff

Working to understand the Rokakaka and work it into more medically viable forms, so they can... use it to get so much money they rule humanity? or something?

Damo's team

Underlings of the hospital team who sell the Rokakaka as a black market miracle drug. I'd say presumably they're the main funding arm as the hospital staff are studying the Rokakaka rather than use them, but we saw Wu bilking millions out of Mitsuba using the fruit anyway.

distribution arm

Entirely unseen and ignored, but whoever the Rock Humans are using the smuggle the fruit out of New Guinea are completely ignored, undergo no consequences, may still be doing the same work.

Jobin

Works to launder the Rock Humans' money for some reason.

Don't forget that Damo's group were the only rock humans until they weren't.

Shall we rewrite JoJolion ITT?

he's unable to take breaks either

He literally stated that he took a vacation because he was sick of covid lockdowns, he ended jojolion as collateral damage. Showing that he has no respect for his work nor his readers, but that doesn’t concern us mostly, as we pirated his work honestly.
It was also stated that Calamity stayed even after Tooru’s death, which made always believe, someone else was going to claim that power, and will be the real villain, something tooru doesn’t feel like at all. I don’t think it’s Tsurugi but who knows.

I actually tried and reached something conclusive, but holly being ill because of the fruit and having a lab beforehand is a situation with no way out.

No. Its easy to be armchair critics but writing and drawing a ~40 page manga every month isn't easy. Not to defend Araki dropping the ball like he did though but he was always loose with consistency and works more on a feeling instead of sticking to plans.

It was definitely Tsurugi. The old man was near him when the gates shut on that kid, can't remember if he was there for the baby falling into the fountain but he was when his mom cut her finger. The whole flash forward centered around Tsurugi, dragging his grandfather's body upstairs while everyone was acting normal and it specifically mentioned changing hearts changing stands.

Someone said that part 8 is full of good vignettes on their own but the overall story is a mess. This isn’t like Araki using star finger then scrapping it, almost every story element is retconned or just forgotten. Shit, Norisuke goes from evil to good in 1 and a half volumes.

I actually waited until the final chapter...

There're major inconsistencies all over the part. There's a new contradiction like every chapter. And character assassinations that made my blood boil
And the fact that it's the longest part, we had to wait countless months for garbage. I remember many of us (including me) were still in denial about Araki's writing that by the time Radio Ga Ga dropped, we were still optimistic that all the dangling plot threads would somehow get resolved. And then we got the most dogshit bullshit final chapter of the entire series. The more I think about it the more disgusted I get

She was going to tell him about Josefumi being a Joestar and who his father is. There’s probably bad blood between the Higashikata and the Joestars that goes since long.

still seething about JJL years later

Give it a rest already

The manga was 10 years long, therefore it deserves at least 10 years of seethe.

My biggest problem with JJL even ignoring everything else is Tooru. I feel like throughout the story Araki kept changing his mind on who the villain needed to be. First it was Jobin, then Damo, then Kaato, proceeds to write these characters into irrelevance, then Tooru comes out of nowhere and is suddenly the villain. Tooru has a cool stand but holy fuck his design is ugly and he's a very boring character. His design is just terrible, not intimidating at all. He feels like a side villain but according to Araki has the most powerful stand in the series, which is bullshit when D4C, MiH, The World and King Crimson exist. Just a mess of a character and was the final nail in the coffin.

Karera felt villainous to me and I thought she might actually be a potential main villain too.

It’s not anger, just bewilderment and amusement at the fact that someone like Araki can fuck up this much despite decades of experience. JoJolion is just so interesting to look at from a critical perspective.

He definitely changed plans with Tooru. His stand was stalking Josuke, Rai and Yasuho and Josuke even turned to attack him. No calamity but his stand disappeared. Everything after that was it wearing the head doctor outfit to sloppily tie them together.

(Complete Manga)

Surely this should be the highest rated JoJo?

She for some reason stated to hate Kira’s guts so much it’s not unthinkable that she might fucked him over or his mother. But she was totally into Josefumi. Also her personality gave off a rock human. You can notice how she acted towards josefumi/josuke in the same way tooru acted towards yasuho.

Surely this should be the highest rated JoJo?

According to the storytime threads, not everyone reads all the parts and some people dislike certain parts.

On reread, the first half doesn’t hold up because you know nothing matters. Vitamin C is still good on its own, but shit like CKB is a worthless filler arc. The automatic stand fights are still boring even on a binge read. Even vitamin C could’ve been better, I wish we saw more of Josefumi bonding with Holly and Kira. There was a real emotional core there

But reddit said part 5 was the most popular in japan? Kek.
Part 7 deserves a higher ranking. And honestly I don’t get the appeal of part 3 other than Dio.

stops time

blows you up silently, without a trace

skips time

steals your memories and even your stand

dimension-hops

...grows hair by direct touch only that falls out if she walks more than 10m away

How the fuck did you possibly think this would be a main villain? Are you stupid?

The head doctor should’ve been a real character not a stand, and the final villain, but Araki wasn’t assed into giving him compelling motivation other than I want money and just went with Tooru, since he had a past with yasuho.

Stands can change and true abilities can be hidden, her personality was villainous part and it seemed like she was hiding things.

Jotaro is the most beloved joestar, Japs love him more than westerners. Araki added so many extra fights for star platinum because they wanted to see him kick more ass. Jotaro being half Japanese definitely is definitely part of the love he gets from readers. Wouldn’t be surprised if 6’s lack of popularity among Japan must stem more from Jotaro fanboys and self inserters mad he loses every fight

Born this way suffers the most, on your first read it’s an interesting fight, and the revelation of Kei was mindblowing and her design was very cool, but in a reread, you just feel disgusted after knowing what’s going to happen.

People say speed king was too weak and not threatening enough to be a main antagonist stand. I get what they mean, but people act as if Araki couldn’t just boost its power through an asspull, ACTs, or some other evolution method. He’s done it before

That's why only first forms are listed. All prior villains had very menacing first forms for their stands and upgraded stands only got worse for the protagonists. No main villain ever started out with a stupid stand.

Kei was wasted. I loved her character and the dynamic she brought to the story.

Jotaro being half Japanese definitely is definitely part of the love he gets from readers.

Yes definitely, I’ve seen it with other similar characters like Zoro, japs are very nationalistic regarding those trivial things unlike the west. Or maybe they just can’t self insert unless the character is japanese.

She was relegated to be the Higashikata servant as some side character and just died like that kek

IMG_7550.png - 519x1260, 716.77K

I'm so fucking mad Araki killed her like that.

part 1 actually scored good

based japan

I have no hope for Jojolands, after reading part 8 in one go it's clear that part 9 shows signs of retcons, like here when Jodio explains that the group being hunted is a good sign because it shows Howler is already losing money, but not a volume ago we saw that Howler didn't even know about that Lulu and Bobby were tracking the group. And what's the plan with Lulu anyway? Does she just hangs around the bank every day until someone touches the land deed document.

I guarantee Araki learned nothing about the failure of part 8 besides maybe that he shouldn't introduce the main villain of a part out of nowhere at the very end (and only maybe, so far Howler sucks and may not be the final villain)

speedreader doesn't know the difference between a bank and a government paperwork depot

forgot that Bags Groove is automatic but Lulu is aware of her stand activation

Not even Toriyama would be as loose with the story of part 8 as Araki.

Don’t you guys find it boring that Araki copied part 5 for two parts in a row now?

Its very good but because it lacks all the flare and style later parts get, people overlook PB.

Now that you mention it, Araki lost all sense of creative storytelling.

Lol jojolion is trash from the beginning, Araki isn’t even trying with it. They’re the worst JoJo party ever aside from Jodio. We have a tranny for fucks sake.
Also Araki just quietly moved a Jojolion plot thread into JoJolands

Howler sucks

Howler and his bodyguards are the only thing keeping me reading part 9. They’re better characters than our heroes.

Will you even defend part 9? People don’t learn from their mistakes.
