First season really was the best. 2 and 3 were ruined by too much drama. They even went and introduced a new character in 3 just for the sake of drama.
Thankfully Anon Babble warned me and I never watches past season 1

This was always a drama show, S1 just felt more laid-back because it took the time to teach the audience how a high school band works.

It was, but the amount of drama was much more reasonable in S1. Half of S2 was Asuka bullshit, half of S3 was Mayu bullshit.

First season felt like a sports anime. S1 Kumiko is basically Tsukishima looking for his "hooked on volleyball" moment and Reina is literally Kageyama.
Never reached the peak of season 1.
it was a great series that Kyoto Animation really put all their heart and passion into making, and it really showed.

Season 3 was great imo, an excellent conclusion to Kumiko story and the band reaching the top aimed since the beginning. Kyoani did the right decision on making Mayu playing the solo
