Complete crackpot theory, this is based on nothing concrete: I think Chainsaw-man either ISN'T actually the chainsaw devil, or has somehow taken, or been gifted, the true power of the death devil. Reading this chapter I find it strange that the death devil's power is that she can turn devils and people into her slaves by eating them, which is just a shittier version of the control devil's powers, who can do that without having to eat someone. And also a strangely ill-fitting power for a devil that embodies the fear of death. But she does share the eating prerequisite with chainsaw-man, which is what got me thinking about this in the first place. Chainsaw-man's powers have also always been strange and don't really fit the chainsaw, chainsaw's only "eat" things in a figurative sense, and why would that translate into the permanent death and erasure of a devil and the accompanying fear of the concept they represent? Killing things permanently is a far more fitting power for the death devil than for chainsaw-man. And why is chainsaw-man called chainsaw-man anyway? Why isn't it just known as the chainsaw devil like all other devils? My guess is that the chainsaw devil either did something to the death devil, earning for itself the moniker of chainsaw-man. Or is the ACTUAL death devil and this one is an imposter. It could also explain why Makima considered herself a fan of chainsaw-man. Because why else would one of the four horsemen of the apocalypse hold a lesser devil in such high regard than for the chainsaw devil either having done something to her elder sister, or to be the true death devil and final member of the four horsemen?
