Is having a waifu a form of courtly love?

Melmbun

Can this be this week's thread?

Does anybody even care about Shana anymore?

I’m watching it for the first time

Waifu!

Where's the real thread bros!

Can't it be this one? If the OP is fine with it.

We get threads about it from time to time, though it's grim how an anime that was once so popular is now largely forgotten.

Though that's in large part because anime fans tend to be young and don't stick around, so most people who were watching anime in 06-07 are not watching anime anymore.

It's not reciprocal.

It's not forgotten it's just the way time works.
You don't rewatch the same content over and over again constantly.
You need a breath of fresh air to feel fulfillment and enjoyment.
Variety is the flavour of life.

Its basically medieval chivalry. Which is not as much of a compliment as you might think, but I respect it anyway.
Genuine waifufags are based, because they can love something with their whole heart, no matter what others think of it. and I say that as a yurifag.

It is forgotten in the sense that nobody except for the people who have already watched it would care about it. This is the case for most old 2015.

Most newfags are not going to watch Shana or most other popular anime from that era unless they have a lot of free time on their hands (and want to pad their MAL stats).

Yes it's the best kind

*the case for most pre-2015 anime.

How come we stopped celebrating valentine's day with our waifu?

We didn't?

I think most of us want to know everything there is to know about our waifus, but are there things about her you'd prefer to keep mysterious?

It's form of cuckoldry, because unless she's an oc that has never been posted on the internet, you're sharing her with at least one other waifufag.

skill issue, no one shares my waifu because I picked a girl who is both top tier and niche

Get new material already

why did you stop celebrating valentines with your waifu

Where is everyone?

More questions

OP here. That's cool with me.

Cool.

Waifu Wednesday Start!!

Y'all best be drawing

No!

I love my beautiful wife Lysithea.
I'd like to know everything about her past, but I know some elements can be painful to her, so only if she wants to talk about it.
I don't do Valentine shrines but I've drawn her a couple of times for Valentines.

Honestly? Yes, Anon. Waifu culture mirrors the medieval tradition of courtly love in more ways than people think. Courtly love wasn’t about romance in the modern sense, but about devotion to an idealized feminine figure, usually unattainable. You had knights writing poetry to noblewomen they could never marry, pledging loyalty, going off to war or pilgrimage, trying to improve themselves morally and socially just to be “worthy” of someone they’d never touch. The woman wasn’t a partner, but a symbol, something between a muse and a moral compass.
Sound familiar?
In the same way, waifu culture often centers on an unattainable figure who serves not just as comfort, but as a moral horizon. She’s not real, but the point is that she doesn’t have to be. She’s a projection of something higher. Ideal love, self-discipline, clarity of vision, even purity.

Anyone who views anime girls as anything more than cartoon characters has a mental illness. It's fine to like them or maybe get one or two pieces of merch, but once you get to the level of making shrines for them or plastering their likeness across your bedroom, there's something wrong with you.

it’s self loathing

No, anon. It’s literally the opposite. It’s not “I hate myself so I’ll worship cartoon girls.” It’s “I know I’m not who I want to be, so I’ll fix my shit while holding on to a symbol of who I could be.” It’s aspirational. That’s the whole idea. Men did the same thing with their ojou-sama 800 years ago. They wrote poetry, swore fealty, went on crusade. Were they mentally ill too? Probably. But that’s culture kek

anyone who views anime girls as more than cartoons has a mental illness

Fictional =/= meaningless. If you can accept people hanging posters of LeBron or Napoleon or whoever, why is it suddenly “mental illness” the moment it’s a 2D girl with purple eyes? Come on.
My waifu is Saber. She’s not real. I don’t pretend she is. But she represents something: strength, discipline, self-actualization. She reminds me not to collapse under my own mental garbage. That little fig on my desk has done more for my self-discipline than five therapists and a caffeine addiction combined.

That being said—yeah, I’ll admit, some of you need to touch grass. When your entire room is floor-to-ceiling dakis, posters, and scented candles labeled “her shampoo,” you’re in full immersion RP mode. That’s not discipline, that’s a lifestyle brand built out of loneliness. I get it, it’s hard being lonely, but don’t pretend it’s noble. That’s not a waifu, it’s a parasitic second life you built because your real one stopped moving.
A waifu should elevate you, not consume you. If she’s not making you better, she’s not a waifu. She’s just a very expensive excuse.
picrel is someone who’s gone too far

I love and adore my wife Chris!

I wanna go swimming with my cool dork wife.

A lot of those people are probably doing that to show off and impress other waifufags to show how devoted they supposedly are.

Aren’t you the guy who was married to a 3D pig while also having Saber as your waifu?

That’s not me kek. But that guy sounds like a two-timer
