Inuyasha Story Time

Alright, it is Wednesday and I am gonna post the fifty-fifth volume of Inuyasha. Feel free to react or comment on any panel, though I appreciate if image replies are not used during the dump. Feel free to discuss anything Inuyasha related after the dump.

Previous thread: Despite the OP image, I am using the VizBig 3-in-1 localization which does not feature this cover exactly. Be aware that some of the larger images have been edited to be lower quality due to image size limits.

In addition, I will be dumping the one short story from the Rumic World and Rumic Theatre series that came out around this time. Today, the scans I have of the one shot are fanscans. Today, that will be "Happiness List".

Hey OP.

we got 'im right at the start

(me)
wait i just looked at the time that OP was posted
a- anon...?

owari before it even hajimari
n- nyo...

Would've started earlier, but life keeps getting in the way.

The OP Reborn
huzzah

Naruku is a cuck

Kikyo...

Original title is 捕らえる. This means "capture". So, I guess "Captured" would've worked, but Entrapped sounds a bit cooler, I guess.

January 30th, 2008. Author's note:
"Q: If you could keep any animal as a pet what would it be?
A: Shiba Inu."

Previously, on Magatsuhi's wild ride (gone wrong)

Devious.

Q: If you could keep any animal as a pet what would it be?

A: Shiba Inu.

heehee

inuyasha broke free of magatsuhi's spell without using his blade?!

sesshomaru might have, maybe, perhaps, gained a modicum of respect for inuyasha
at least, inuyasha doesn't look as weak

There it goes...

farewell, tetsusaiga...

what now, magatsuhi?

seems the half demon is harder to control than you thought

if you spin around enough times and then hold a seashell to your ear, you might hear the faintest hint of pride in sesshomaru's voice

Original title is よみがえった光. This seems to translate more literally to "The Light Resurrected" or "The Light Revived", but this obviously works too.

February 6th, 2008. Author's note:
"Q: What books have you read over and over?
A: Ayako Sono's Absent Room (不在の部屋)."

Kagome!

he might try to possess *me* next...

i assume this line is from kagome's thoughts
i bet it's a little more obvious in japanese due to their various first-person pronouns
though i don't remember what sesshomaru uses...

run!

he's warning her?!!

I... I can't!

hit by blue steel again? nah, inuyasha wouldn't be able to pull that off...

he's going into kagome!

lewd!

inuyasha jumps

inuyasha no!

a part of me is already inside her!

oh my god

you must tear both inuyasha and kagome apart

time to become an only child

Re-ENTER

time to become an only child

That's what he's been trying to do for 95% of the story to be fair.

Got here at a decent time
Welcome and thank you OP

I've seen some serious criticisms for Miroku acting like this and I honestly agree, but at the same time, I can't help but read Miroku's self-sacrificing tendencies and frustrating behavior with Sango at face value and "a noble flaw" even if it honestly doesn't stand up to scrutiny.

I do like that Naraku is basically gossiping at this point.

He basically thinks he's won at this point, so no real reason to bother with more obfuscation.

Original title is 飲みこまれる光. This apparently is like "The Light that is Swallowed Up". Devour is good though.

These two pages were originally full color.

February 20th, 2008. Author's note:
"Q: Do you remember the earliest character that you drew?
A: Songo from Songo-kun."
Furinkan's note: "Iori Tabasa who draws Kunai-den answered: I think it was Lum!"

nice

She's just like me...

VIZ, what happened to the font? You used the same font for every scroll title until now. It is Volume 55, Viz. Why would you switch it to this typewriter font?

Also, I know giving the mask was an important moment, but man, this cover would've been cool with the mask.

March 12th, 2008. Author's note:
"Q: What's the best place to relax?
A: My house."

Q: What's the best place to relax?

A: My house."

True!

I saw this in the interview I quoted above and I figured I may as well post it.

"Q17 Rumiko-sensei, hello, thank you very much for making such a wonderful series! The content of the question is about the outfit of the demon exterminators during Sango's era. During the series, there was a depiction that the face mask and the demon poison were stored on their shoulders and the sword several times, but is there anything else that is stored on their gear? I would appreciate it if you could tell me. Thank you.

A17 Hmmm, I believe it also contains poison antidotes and strong threads."

We've actually see the ropes and antidotes in the story, pretty sure. It probably wouldn't do much good now.

Wait, if Rin isn't in Naraku's clutches anymore, isn't Sesshomaru free to use Bakusaiga?

Heh, Furinkan posts their 瘴気 (shouki) vs. 邪気 (jaki) thing again here. This might be the first time they're used in the same sentence and it does highlight how the two terms could be easily conflated. VIZ has been good about translating them consistently though I'm not sure when they settled on these specific terms. I am pretty sure it was "poison gas" before it turned into miasma permanently.

The smuggest

Unrelated to this particular panel, but I hate how Kirara is pretty much less sentient than the swords at this point

Hell, why don’t Inuyasha and Sesshomaru start blasting their attacks away, now that they know where everyone is?

Inuyasha got REALLY thrown off kilter after missing the meido. Really could use a few minutes to get his head back in the game, y'know?

Original title is 奈落の望み. 望み apparently means hope, wish, desire.

March 19th, 2008. Author's note:
"Q: What character from all the years of Shonen Sunday would you like to be for a day?
A: Perman."

She answered the same thing for Chapter 83's author's comment.

Naraku’s transformation in the anime was more…dramatic, so to say, than here in the manga.

Original title is 斬る冥道. This translation is accurate and 斬る does appear to mean "cut" or "slash" (as a variation of 切る, I guess). It also can mean specifically to kill with a sword.

It is also "kiru" so the resemblance to the English word kill is interesting, but probably a coincidence.

March 26th, 2008. Author's note:
"Q: What is something from now or in the past that you cannot change but would like to?
A: The time I met the bookstore owner and got nervous."

This is so underwhelming. It's supposed to be a power up? It's exactly what Sesshomaru had at the very beginning and was supposed to evolve from

He's so pretty (no homo)
