When did it stop being iconic?
When did it stop being iconic?
Around 2016 when we got a bunch of tourists who only watch anime because it has boobs to own the feminists and stuff
Post AoT.
Everything wrong with anime started with that PoS
Never, it's just 20 years old now.
When they made that lame nagato spin-off instead of season 3, which caused franchise to fall into a state of irrelevancy that it could never recover from.
Maybe a remake? Since we got many remakes already, I think it's inevitable
God don’t remind me of pre 2016 it’s too sad
Every single Yuki spinoff is terrible. But aside from that Haruhi is still very popular compared to most anime that aired 2 decades ago.
Sometime during or right after the great shounen shift of 2016. Lots of anime from before that wall didn't make the cut.
Basically every anime that was required viewing on Anon Babble, (and to a lesser but still significant amoun,t elsewhere on the internet) before that year is literally who tier on Anon Babble now. Even anime that lasted pretty long and that even in 2015 on Anon Babble it'd be like "wtf do you mean you haven't seen dokuro-chan", has now become "dokuro-chan? wtf is that I haven't heard of it either"
Never was.
FOMO garbage.
annoying bitch
iconic
Pre 2013. Stop that 2013 tourist.
why yes, I do prefer Haruhi S2 over S1. How could you tell?
Endless Eight killed the hype dead
The movie did win people back, but then it wasn't ever followed up on
Gods and goddesses get their divinity from their believers. I assume she's less powerful nowadays.
College Haruhi when?
To this day I have no idea why I like this series. The plot is completely stupid, Haruhi is awful and unsympathetic even though she's supposed to be endearing, every other character is flat.
But I can't stop liking it. Must be a "you had to be there" thing
That first episode was literally a piece of Punk art. I remember Kyoani's big balls.
2009. if endless eight was a single episode the anime would be caught up to the books.
The concert. Aya Hirano. And likely. One of your first subbed anime.
But yeah. You had to be there. Zoomers will never know when anime was a secret club.
It's all about consuming isekai
Will we ever see another anime pull something like endless eight ever again?
I guess Pop team epic did something similar though , and people liked it or pretended to like
it was always boring shit
it was pretty much immediately replaced by k-on in 2010. haruhi was the first "seasonal" anime in the modern sense and only really aged well among a thin range of people who cant name a single older show.
When Madoka swept the masses in 2011 and a ton of new blood came in
Bs. Most people who got into haruhi did so because they were looking for most anime.
Hell. Shana was big right before Haruhi.
And K-on sucked
K-On! is a "good" adaptation but it's in a prison of the flatness and mediocrity of its source material. Oddly it's garnered a pretty new following of sakugabooru 14 year olds who try to historically revise it into some sort of "enduring classic" rather than just a very popular-at-the-time moe anime.
It's pretty fucking boring honestly. You can watch Madoka or TTGL and enjoy them even 15 years later because they're actually interesting, you don't need to watch it with someone else to "get" it.
Never. New iconic anime stopped being made sometime in the 10s so nothing could supplant it (shounenfags need not apply)
It's still iconic, just not spammed.
I'm a zoomer, I watched Haruhi sometime around 2015 and I loved it, I read the LNs too.
Wrong. What you said except the reverse of it, is true.
Yes, only Anon Babble revisionists start claiming Haruhi was a "you had to be there" thing. Haruhi is great because it has solid writing, themes and resonates with a lot of people. This has nothing to do with social watching.
It's ironic what said, because Madoka and TTGL were the biggest 'you had to be there' anime I can think of other than Code Geass.
It had a unique story and peerless animation. You mad because it's meta?
You had to be there for Geass.
You had to be there for Haruhi.
You had to be there for TTGL.
At least if you are a 30+ anime fan.
Otherwise you're just a bandwagon fan imo.
Someone new who didn't experience the good days of anime.
It's not all that meta. Or, more accurately, it's only meta to the extent that characters know fiction exists.
That's retarded. Most of these are good regardless of whether you watched it back then or later. t. 32 year old
The older I get. The more I understand TTGL.
But the reality is. This isn't like fucking Gundam 0079. If you are 32 you are old enough to download these shows with Bittorrent in 2006-2007
Then it's not that "you had to be there" but that "you probably were there".
No I'm saying you HAD to be there.
It's like watching a shooting star live.
Whereas band Wagon fans who watched it later?
They see it in pictures
The problem isn't even anime being good or bad, there just aren't any anime originals anymore. Everything is a manga or LN adaptation, so nothing is an actual surprise to anyone other than to secondaries. So by the time the anime adaptation comes out, there is nothing to do other than to react to secondaries who are SHOCKED that this thing everyone knows about happened, bitch about the quality, or post waifus.
Manga threads have way more life in them than anime threads.
Franchises live and die off maintaining momentum. Haruhi simply was never able to maintain the inertia that the first season provided. Things took too long to come out and eventually people just sorta moved on.
This isn't a shooting star, it's a cartoon (and a pretty good one). The rest is just armchair psychology bullshit.
And the anime originals? They tend to be 12 episodes.
Now. I'm not saying you can't tell a story in 12 episodes. But they tend to be more limited in scope. You simply cannot get a ttgl style anime these days.
So did you start watching anime because of covid or some shit?
And it's perfectly fine, forced hype and sequels wouldn't bring much to the table. Just look at the current state of WTC, lol.
I was there long before you came out of the womb zoomie. It's just that I can appreciate a show/book for what it is instead of talking about the 06 Internet all the time.
I was there too and chances are...you weren't.
I'm the exact same age as you
I'm sorry your rotten brain can only conceptualize things through nostalgia
A new light novel would literally break the internet
Id
It kinda did. As much as it can nowadays anyway
I don't like K-on except for Tsumugi.
There are two kinds of "you had to be there"
Those that enhance the experience, and those that *make* the experience.
Either way, those who were there cannot 勝手に決めつける that those who weren't there won't be able to enjoy it. That can only be said after you actually observe newfags overwhelmingly saying "Anon Babble tricked me into watching this but it's shit"
Season 3 officially hopefully soon
2006
Adult Haruhi when?
All the while, unless it's a weekly shonen jump series, you have to wait for a year for anything to happen in any given manga, so it's not that much better either.
Also, a lot of original series that could've attracted some hype and discussions were just randomly dumped on Netflix, and that basically means the shows were just dead on arrival.
The only thing coming soon is the fact that Season 2 was 20 years ago. You've been waiting all this time.
wtf is this?
Be glad this was spared from tiktok mining it for nostalgia. Digging up your dear grandma to process her bones into "oldschool flavored" vape pods.
your usage of the term "bandwagon fan" is retarded. if you become a fan post peak popularity and when it wasn't in the zeitgeist you are by definition you are anything but a bandwagon fan. Literally saying what made you fan wasn't primarily the writing or show itself but the experience of viewing it with other people is literally being a bandwagon.
anyways I spend so many years arguing with 80s/90s nostalgia fags and muh golden era I like that I am seeing the same breed of dumbassery thought but for 07
When Attack on Titan started airing, and I'm not joking about that.
Haruhi and Gurren Lagann have aged well because they're just good shows that just happened to be hyped to hell and back at the time. There is no problem in watching them divorced of the context they aired in.
Meanwhile Madoka and ESPECIALLY Chode Gayass live and die on the episode-to-episode hype and are thus you-really-had-to-be-there shows.
You can not like it all you want, but to claim Haruhi wasnt iconic and fucking huge juat outs you as a newfaggot
Logically. This could make sense.
Up until you realize nobody was watching anime back then. And that it was a secret club basically.
I had to learn to torrent to watch this shit back then.
There were times I waited days to download a series...only to fail. That happened with Mushishi in 2006.
Shit was just harder back then.
It never was
Depends on your region or internet, I'm Italian so outside of the fact my internet was ADSL 256 kb/s top speed download back then, it wasn't that hard to find shit, especially since search engines back then actually worked. Now Google will actively hide vbulletin forums and such, but I downloaded Naruto from limewire without too many issues. Hell there were people uploading the episodes in 2 or 3 parts on youtube back then.
It was niche as far as how many people watched it, but consuming it wasn't that hard, plus manga were actually cheap back then, I got JoJo and Hokuto no Ken for €2 a volume, now it's priced for manchildren with disposable income.
When people realised it wasn't good.
It's so not iconic that you are still making threads to seethe about how iconic it is.
Never. But it was only iconic for people who were there when it came out, instead of being on the same level as Eva and Berserk.
You can compare it to Spice and Wolf and Rozen Maiden.
2005
Disingenuous posts
People realised it was a bad show and a terrible unfaithful adaptation, plus Japan cares a lot about seiyuu and Hirano is a confirmed whore.
I would love to see the few Haruhifags around react to any modern show that dares to put out anything resembling E8. They'd call it trash without hesitation.
But E8 IS trash, and every Haruhifag will not just admit it but declare it as if holy writ.
Do people like this post bullshit intentionally or are they functionally retarded?
E8 was when I knew it was OVER.
S3 never.
Why are you questioning it, things were more comfortable and fun when someone posting Haruhi a Shit was instantly slapped with a shut up retard and that was the end of it. I call the Gest/a/po to bring back some order to anon's opinion on things. Fuck the mods and fuck free speech.
Looking at the state of catalog for the past few years should have helped you realize
I watched 3 episodes, that was my limit
More like when SAO swept in the masses of normalfags in 2012 who then later jumped on the AoT train
New anime fans are going back and watching TTGL, Code Geass and Madoka, these shows have never stopped being popular. Code Geass is the only one that's really dropped off.
So WHY didn't they continue with the anime adaptation? It was popular and was a cashcow.
It also still has plenty off materials to get more seasons.
Did the original LN author piss off someone so he got blacklisted or something?
