So we can all collectively agree that Shounen is dead right?

After JJK's inglorious ending (actually it was always bland with psychopathic unlikeable characters with no dynamic) and the random slop that is DandaDan and Chainsaw Man, there's absolutely no interesting series or story left in the magazine.

Pic rel, what Shounen manga used to be like. Now it's isekaishit and shoujou romcoms with amputee world building. How far we have fallen....

I feel like the good times of media in general have ended. The best you can hope for is a shallow copy of what you liked consuming in the past.

Are we pretending FMAB, SnK and Bleach aren't massive piles of steaming shit too?

Why do you think that?

They're fucking legendary and with way more interesting stories and characters than modern Shounen. Also FMAB>Huntard

watch entire series just to see the MC use le punch of friendship to beat the main villain

KEK

shallow copy

I actually continue consuming improved versions of what I liked consuming in the past :)

ESL lacks reading comprehension and enjoys subversive crap

Yawn. I don't even remember what happened in MHA or JJK, they were just so boring and didn't go anywhere

I feel that's not entirely accurate, there's still good shit out there-but you have to dig through an ocean of shallow copies to get to it. Quality is no longer as mainstream as it used to be.

Even though the character designs seemed AI generated, Summertime Render was the last time a Shounen series sucked me in

I feel that millennials in their early 30s and 40s who still consume media aimed at children are now figuring out that they are no longer the intended public for it, so they lash out in rather than accepting that they are old and the world is leaving them behind.

So we can all collectively agree that Shounen is dead right?

I think more people are watching Shonen now than in the 00's when the Big 3 were dominant.

This doesn't mean anything about the quality of nu-Shonen (I agree that Naruto is and Bleach are a cut above MHA and JJK), but rather that this is a transitional period where many nu-Shonen ended around the same time and new batch will take it's place

Genuinelly think that if Kagurabachi gets a good adaptation, it'll be as big as any of the previous generation was. DanDaDan is popular on the internet but have no idea if it's "mainstream" yet

Yeah it's just that Japan lagged 15 years behind the US in the cultural cycle as usual, they're hitting a dead end now too.

My two main beefs with modern Shounen are

1. Too dark. Every character is a Mayuri or Orochimaru, there are no high or light moments which make the darker moments seem impactful, and characters, plot and world building become an afterthought. It's like manga are either tryhard seinen right off the bat or they're super saccharine romcoms with nothing in the middle. Even an extremely dark series like HxH or AoT had lighter moments and explored characters for more than a chapter before binning them unlike JJK.

And 2. Less world building. The universes of JJK KnY and MHA (and from what I've read of KGB) and the stories within them just seem miniscule compared to older Shounen, and the sense of mystery about those worlds, their factions and their history is next to nonexistent.

Rukia lost to lowest-tier shinigami at the start but later somehow keeps up with the current power-creep somewhat anyway

Shanks lost his arm to random east blue sea monster, not even a sea king, but he's revealed to be one of the strongest people in the world some time later

99% of battle-shounen suffer from severe power-creep issues at the latest by the mid-point of the story that either make side-characters look like jobbers all along, or they somehow have greater growth than the miracle-worker MC for no explained reason

WTF is wrong with battle-shounen?

So we can all collectively agree that Shounen is dead right?

No

>Rukia lost to lowest-tier shinigami

>Shanks lost his arm to random east blue sea monster

Uh Rukia lost to a Hollow and both she and shanks got wounded trying to help someone haphazardly. Both were in the first chapter so it wasn't a big deal. Rukia achieved bankai and still couldn't defeat As Nodt without Byakuya helping (which was bs but w/E). Hardly that egregious. I think Ichigos power decline was worse, his bankai was meant to be a trade off for super speed but everything just speedblitzes him anyway

I don't dislike battle shonen per se, but the new ones that I gravitate towards nowadays are made by authors I've historically enjoyed in the past.

yes.
the current state is battle fujos.
the male readers have run away to isekai-slop and shoujo-kino.

Nice ad hominem, but nostalgia goggles doesn't explain why I dozed through Jujutsu Slopsen and and KNY but blind watched Hunter X Hunter Ghost in the Shell and Patlabor religiously for the first time straight after, and can very easily articulate why I liked the latter but not the former. I feel like your feelings contain a lot of conviction but very little real life accuracy

The character designs simplified over time under the pressure of the weekly serialization while the backgrounds were literally traced from photos of Wakayama. That's why it looks so uncanny compared to the anime.

Battle-shounen is plagued too much by moralfag-underdog MCs. And the industry at large is far too much in bed with "the weakest is actually the strongest" until isekai came along which shattered those "industry standards" and is one reason why it appealed to so many initially. But then the industry got involved and forced that whole "weakest actually the strongest" shit in with stuff like shoelacershit in as well and big industry players starting a negative PR campaign against all WN-aggregator originated franchises by (quite successfully) framing them as "fastfood fiction". I know because I remember all the sudden revision that happened in the middle 2010s where suddenly isekai was inherently bad all along and the novelty at the start supposedly never existed, as if people flocked to it just because and for no particular reason.
Seriously, it was such a perfectly and smothly run PR-campaign that the faggots who promote the likes of solo shilling or suicide shilling are like helpless babies in comparison. It was at the level or outright social engineering. Nip big-league influencers are scary.

Yeah no, that's not why Shounen is bad. You're just schizo

Shounen is plagued by moralfag underdog MCs

JJK

Every character is a psychopath, Gojo is a mary sue, Ryuji is a mary sue

Chainsaw Man

Every character is a psychopath, Denji is a mary sue

You're gay and retarded. Nobody wants to read a story written by someone who just wants soulless one dimensional creatures slapping meat against each other. Kindly make your genius manga idea so I can publically trash and piss on it.

Bleach is the best of Big 3. Cope.

big3 (2).jpg - 1920x1080, 397.58K

Denji is a mary sue

sometimes I forget that I live in a different reality than half the retards here

I don't want to turn this into a zoomer vs boomer thing, I watched less than half of the anime in OP's picture
But maybe it's boomers who have watched more stuff the ones who can at least compare it with the new stuff coming out. Imagine a zoomer who is getting into anime, he'll probably watch whatever is popular at the moment, he can't compare it with older anime because he didn't watch any.

but the same thing happened to boomers

Probably, but right now those boomers have the advantage of having consoomed more stuff.

Mary sue just means character I don't like nowadays.

the bleach one is different though
that moment doesn't shape ichigo as a character (i.e. giving him motivation in life), it only awakens his power, hell ichigo doesn't really give a fuck about all the supernatural ghost stuff

Based. That slave can seethe.

(you) will keep seething that people like different things from you, others will simply keep reading things you think are "lower quality", while everything was always fun trash, and the world will keep spinning. Accept it, you simply got old.

or battle anime where there are strong females that dominate low T men like your pic

shoujo in 2025

I literally never heard anyone mentioning shoujo anime

anon one of the most successful anime in 2 years is shoujo

kusuriya.jpg - 739x415, 24.11K

Shounen has been dead since the adventure type died in the early 00s.

Are we pretending that Bleach isn't by a mile better than Naruto and Juan Piss?

never heard of it

Nta but I think it was the worst, the antagonists were incredibly retarded despite the story keeping to glaze them as genius masterminds, the protagonist wasn't really likable to me, not for any particular reason, just personal opinion, and the scaling was really bad, wich brought to some unimaginative and dumb fights. I really liked Barragan's fight, and Tsukishima who was the best main villain until the Ginjo reveal.

Based. Anon read it too instead of these retarded animeonly takes

Pic rel, what Shounen manga used to be like. Now it's isekaishit and shoujou romcoms with amputee world building. How far we have fallen....

Are you fucking retarded or are you trolling? The shit in your picture is lowest common denominator slop. Back in the day, a lot of those shows were so reviled that many anime communities were divided over that crap, and shunned the shounenfags. Anon Babble was one such place, where shit like Naruto was de facto banned. It was considered a show for autistic chuunis, children and fujos.
You faggots pretty much destroyed anime in the west, and somehow made Anon Babble gayer than reddit. No wonder people started calling it tranime.

No wonder people started calling it tranime.

Forced meme by twitter tourists who think Anon Babble is their edgelord website. Go back.

Dandadan is kino, kill yourself.

This world... is rotten.

this pretty much

I was born in 2005, am I millenial too? The "media for children" is still made by adults.
You faggots need to get reality check, somehow.

definitely a zoomer

All Shonen is Jump

Ragna lost.png - 631x480, 362.46K

2005

What the fuck I remember holding people like you in my arms when I was a kid

I was born in 2005

I started torrenting anime a year before you were born, holy shit...

And yet another instance of retarded autists being unable to comprehend that time passes

It's less about comprehension and just dealing with the reminder that the people we saw as brats in the 2000s are old enough to post here

As a former shonen fan everything I read nowadays is korean and most of it is regression or isekai. I can't even read japanese isekai because it's ALL herbivore betas with a harem.
Pick Me Up, Surviving The Game As Barbarian, Eternally Regressing Knight, Regressed Mercenary's Machinations, I Regressed But The World Didn't End, Hiding Out In An Apocalypse. I think that's everything I'm reading.

Why do you need to process that and blog about your feelings? Do you forget that time passes or something?

The problem is that old anons enjoyed anime when there were no social media “anime experts” and shitty live streaming services with subscription( besides pirate websites with barely working player).
Zoomers, on the other hand, don't lurk anime by themselves, preferring the popular faggots on the internet who tell them what they should and shouldn't like.
I hate this generation, but at the same time I feel sorry for them.

There were already anime youtubers long before gen z became teenagers, it's actually a millennial thing. At least gen z didn't first watch censored dubs on television and defend it.
