The HP and Diego that jumped on board the train knew about D4C, already.

They came from a dimension where it existed, which means they had to be from the 'Base' World, right?

It looked like they got teleported when they hopped aboard the train and then warped back when Valentine got a second chance.

This put them back where they started but a few moments back in time?

Unless I misread that entirely.

Did I horribly misunderstand this sequence?
Otherwise, how would the Diego and Hot Pants that got on the train know about D4C?

Rereading it a few times, the sequence really is a mess.
We see a Diego and Hot Pants that know about D4C jump on board the train.
Alt-Valentine confuses them by talking about how they're already in another dimension where the Corpse doesn't exist and they're racing for gems.
Then real Valentine ambushes them and pushes them behind a door and warps them out into the original dimension.

The problem is that the Diego and Hot Pants that we see fall out of the train next, are talking about racing for gems and therefore would come from a timeline where D4C doesn't exist.
I think Araki just lost track of his universe swapping.

How did a weak valentine overpower Diego?

Valentine's hair go stuck under the train wheel, allowing him to jump to another universe

but somehow this allow let him pull Diego under the wheel and get cut in half by the train
