The pushing Mutsumi down the stairs scene is completely unnecessary. It was only made to generate discussion. This specific scene gave the audience more insight into the character. There's a lot to like about Ave Mujica: it's rather cool to see an anime sequel in this style coming off of MyGO, the aesthetics of the band have as much mass appeal as they are purported to have in-universe, and the whole concept of a 'darker' girl band has immediate appeal through the power of antithesis. I even came to like the 3DCG style quite a bit. So why do I rate the show so lowly?

Look, Kakimoto has his own views and you don't have to agree with him, but the point of bringing up the interviews is to show that they put a lot of thought behind it, that it wasn't just some pretentious style over substance bullshit. While you can disagree with his interpretation, there's a lot of things like the symbolism, imagery, and so on, that were intentionally put there in some kind of revelatory way. I don't want to say stupid shit like "muh true art is incomprehensible, figure it out yourself" but at least from the interviews you know that they weren't there by accident or just to look cool, even if the director, the VAs, and so on had different interpretations about them.

Sakiko doesn't hurt Hatsune. She did with Mutsumi (although unintentionally most of the time), enough to make Mygo seething from time to time. To this day Sakiko and Mutsumi haven't properly mended their relationship. Mutsumi right now is closer to Nyamu, Umiri, and the Mygo's than to Sakiko. Sakiko is basically isolated with Hatsune right now, someone who's delighted at being her personal doll.
