About Nue, The art was just decent at the beginning, it started to become this good after the 1st year, more specifically in the last 2/3 arcs where Kawae suddenly entered the zone. What has captivated jp fans from the start was Kawae unnusual writing and the quirky characters dialogues & interactions which consistently made the manga trend online and memes being created.

It's actually very ironic that in the west the manga got hated for "being generic" but in Japan it made success from the start for being considered different compared to the typical Jump exorcist shounen, i guess some of the quirky writing didn't translated that well to the english version.

At this point, I can't help but respect Kota Kawae for managing to stick around despite... basically breaking every single rule there could ever be regarding pacing and storytelling.
