Not that anon, but maybe it's an Evangelion sort of situation. The japanese overwhelmingly preferred Rei, while Asuka always had a clear lead in the west. Western fans prefer the assertive and cheeky Crab over the "perfect" Cat, while for the japanese it's the reverse.
