The saga was so hype, people thought the manga was ending.

You know what else is better in Part 1 than Shippuden? The art, especially the character expressions. The villains' face actually look menacing in part 1. Skeleton Hidan being unhinged after stabbing himself to kill Asuma looks ridiculously tame compared to Zabuza grinning when he remembers killing his comrades. Shippuden art might be cleaner but the expressiveness isn't as good as Part 1
