then death had at one point been strong enough to both btfo all other endings and force pochita to erase them which would render "death" just the current name for something more powerful than whatever those endings were. But the way it's set up it is probable pochita and the other endings would not have set up this state of affairs with contrcts, hell and earth if death had not forced the issue so as to explain at least everything on the "remembered" world being contracted to it

Very cool concept indeed, It is like a reverse Berserk. Berserk world was "normal" then when Griffith ascends it becomes a fantasy world, with all kind of shit that never existed previously like gnomes and dragons.
The old CSM world had stars that mindbreak children and maybe even elves or angels, and right now a lot of that was erased as if never existed.
Too bad Fuji wastes the worldbuilding and lore potential of this world.

that's how i see it as well. figured it could be just her trying to ignore fami's stupidity, but she was shown from the exact same angle when nayuta was pushing her about her relationship to denji and asa. so it's just sort of a thing she does when faced with uncomfortable questions.
what she intended to say after the "that's" was "not how it works". death remembers what literally no one else does besides maybe pochita and there'd be reasons why none of the characters involved in the story so far but her and denji would be able to do anything. Not to show her face was a clear way to indicate death knows things readers don't, won't or can't know at the least. it's not "like" it's literally "in your face"

death's plan is probably her trying to have someone else (maybe yoru, who made it clear she wants to be the most fearsome) replace her as that.

That is one of the main possibilities yes. But It is also possible that she kinda forgot that stuff like other endings to life existed, because un-erasing those is the easiest way to reduce her own power and avoid going out of control.
Its also possible that she is lying about going out of control because their fear peaks, seems like an asspulled concept, we never heard that a devil can lose control like that.

which is probably why she's reduced herself to being just a bag of skin. this might also be why her pawn power is kind of weak, she's like 10% of the death devil as we saw with gun devil (who was around 20%, missing its legs and torso).

if un erasing anything in pochita's stomach could interfere with death's blunt force capacity or ps' control over the future pochita would not be left to roam around unless it were stronger than those two so either ps can use pochita to deal with death already or death figured out how to go against ps using pochita. There isn't a lot of room for where to go from these unknowns and pochita being "free". Other than that anyone who ever believed one word that came out of a devil's mouth couldn't get done over enough
