I have absolutely no idea where Kimi to Idol is going with this, but if Kimi to Idol can pull off this arc ... and whatever insanity it has planned for the second half, I might consider it a top 5 season. At the very least, we can stop calling it a typical season for now.
The first third (1-16) make Kimi to Idol seem like a more typical season even if the seeds for episode 17 are placed in 15 and 16 (and all throughout the rest of the season taking Purirun's bond with Uta into consideration), but it's pretty clear with episode 17 that we're still in a very experimental phase of Precure.
Either Uta is being delusional when she sees Zukyoon in her bed (which would make her worse than Cutty or even Kokoro, who combines her Cure Idol/Wink shrine with her dead dad shrine), or Cure Zukyoon is still a dope and is trying to protect Uta for reasons she can't fully remember why (by sleeping in the same bed, as bodyguards are wont to do... obviously).

No Cure has ever had to pay such a severe price for power, at least not a price that persisted more than one episode. Usually, becoming a Cure is what resolves an issue a midseason might have, not be the cause of it (like how Eas becoming Passion brought her back to life in Fresh.) This isn't remotely normal and won't be even if it'll probably be resolved before the midway point.
Maybe it'll just end up being a normalish season with one bizarre arc in the middle, but there's still a whole half of the season left for more craziness.

I never could have imagined that they would take Purirun/Uta this seriously. The memory wipe won't last for long, but I can see why they did it if only to create this type of bizarre situation.
The pre-memory wipe one sided chain of affection went Meroron -> Purirun -> Uta before. Purirun was only supposed to lose memories relating to Uta, so she'll probably still have memories of Meroron, which might make Cure Kiss Cure Zukyoon's new number one. The line of onesided affection then gets flipped and becomes Uta -> Purirun -> Meroron. As for what exactly happens if they are stuck in their semiamnesiatic state for a while only to get their memories back after these relationships have developed more, who knows?
Also, this only came to mind just now, but it's pretty ironic that the lock was thought to ensure eternal love only to actually seal love away instead.

Tropical Rouge had a lot of opportunities to be a more complex and interesting show but unfortunately, because the showrunners don't have the faith that your imouto will be able to use her brain and think about what is going on, those cool moments get binned and replaced with overly idealistic crap. It's shit like that which, while not necessarily harmful to the show, definitely reduces its value for subsequent re-watches.
Hugtto pulled fewer punches overall and is a much more interesting season to think about and to revisit, and I think it respects both its core audience (your imouto) as well as the secondary audience (35 year old men on Scandinavian animal husbandry forums) a lot more.

I'm sure it was invented specifically because an amnesia/misunderstandings plot was planned to explore their relationship starting over, or to focus on the faustian bargain and each character's thoughts on it, which typically needs some kind of scifi/magic/religious/etc item to explain how it's even possible to make such an exchange.
I have the feeling it's served its purpose and gone for good. Leaving an item which can theoretically grant a "the goodguys win and Kiraraland is safe and the badguys are gone" wish in the plot would do more damage than good.

We'll just have to wait and see how emotionally attached they are to their duties. They might just learn to love each other again, since they'll be around each other working towards a common cause.

Which would be a bit of a cop-out but would explain how they are able to willingly fulfill their pre-memory wiped desires even without the memories associated with that desire.
I personally think the lock messed with their desires in a way that would make them compelled to fulfill the original wish (so Purirun feels a sense of duty towards Uta and Meroron feels a sense of duty towards Purirun) even though it also takes away their love.

TR's memory loss ending just needed more than 6 minutes of the last episode. If they did it like ST where the memory loss happened in the penultimate episode and they regained their memories in the final one and had the epilogue people would hail it as the GOATY of all time kino finales.
I feel like the longest it'll drag on is the group attack episode (so early 30's). Personally, since 1-11 formed the intro arc, I think this midseason arc will be of a similar length from 12 - 20-ish episodes with the amnesia being resolved near the end of the arc (sometime in July). That would let them start a different (probably more low stakes) arc when the third cour starts. We'll find out episode titles for this month probably sometime this week, so we'll probably find out if they recover their memories sooner than that soon enough.
