Big Duo was carried by its, I guess you could call them setpieces, so hard. The bandages had to tank the missile and vulcan cannon barrage, the second fight left Big O with no ammo, Duo's own missiles were feeble and terribly aimed, the slam was only from Big O being able to scale a skyscraper and not drop the building as a result, Roger could have just lasered the missiles at the end or used another hydraulic air punch, Big O could have just avoided the explosion with its burrowing, etc. Duo was all flash but surprisingly little substance, even accounting for dramatic irony. It was built around flight but flew into a figurative bird cage, completely wasted a chance to take out Paradigm's HQ twice (arguably three times since it had two leg missiles), etc. Schwarzwald thinks he's the rogue genius, but he's really the useful idiot, and Big Duo is themed around the flying circus because Season 1 Schwarzwald is ultimately a hopeless clown. It's even the only Big to lack a proper human hand, and the flashback in R.D. only ever shows one Big O and Big Fau, implying they could be true Bigs while Duo is a lesser, mass-produced model.

The show's visuals are currently much better than Big O's and the writing will inevitably show through as well with Anno at the helm and the movie as an indicator.

The medium peaked in the late 90s and early 2000s, what we're currently witnessing is the downfall with the current generation. Nothing lasts, it's just consoom and move on to the next big thing.

I figure it’s more that Big Duo has lighter armor to ease its weight for flying. Another fuck up is it looks like it’s jet arm rockets fail to ignite in time to doge Big O when it falls. I interpreted that as its fuel running out. Like when Jango Fett tried to fly away from Mace Windu but the jet pack failed. In season 2 it gives the “Ye Guilty” message and rejects its rider, which means to me that it is a real megadeus.

cgi slop where everyone in the studio does most of the heavy lifting while anno takes all the credit as usual
