Mappa was able to get some type of sponsorship/deal with Sony which is how they got the opening&ED musicians I believe(and I think Sony is distributing the reze movie internationally). Anyways show came out and didn't make JJK money. It at least broke even cause well the reze movie is still in production and has a release date but the blurays/dvds didn't make money(to be fair BDs aren't as big as they were 10 years ago). Now the BDs are what Mappa/Mappa's CEO were WILLING to admit to flopping. To add Mappa themselves had to fund the production of the show mostly by themselves which probably took a decent amount of whatever profit they made. The chainsaw man season 1 director's style was taxing in the animators from the production line(said production line was doing both JJK and chainsaw man) which might have contributed to the JJK2 production melt down.

Moments of good payoffs in the writing have been very sparse. I like Denji's "epiphany" in the Aging realm, but besides that I haven't found much value from the writing. I still read and enjoy for the wacky moments and character interactions since Fuji is just good at those as a matter of stream of consciousness.
