What happened to hardcore anime? Everything is so soft now

What happened to hardcore anime? Everything is so soft now.

gore comp.webm - 1920x1080, 3.84M

Are they okay?

Wish Orb didn't tone down their torture scenes

elfen lied mogs this shit

something about selling products to easily butthurt chinks and westerners

sigh I miss when every seasonal anime was a shitty gorey OVA... those were the days

Melting dog part made me sad

this plus the OVA market being dead so making extreme experimental anime is not financially viable anymore

I don’t like violence like this. When I was watching Severance with my friends I looked away from the screen when they were opening up Mark’s head. A lot of this is unnecessary violence that can be communicated to the viewer without gore.

Every single living creature on imperial Jap*n deserves to die. A hundred million nukes wouldn't have been enough

In the 1990s Japan had their version of satanic panic and basically caused most media to self-censor away this stuff.

Easy there Kim

Otakus used to be geeks so they like gore, sci-fi, fantasy, terror and other stuff besides cute girls. Modern otakus only like cute girls and they want to die

I don’t think we’re getting anything like this outside of indie shorts these days. It’s a shame.

Liking gore is mentally ill behavior

When did the black shadow to cover gore actually start? Does anyone have a deeper history on that?

Is orb actually any good. I couldn't stand it during the first episode. It seemed way too Reddit le smart boy understands le astronomy.

Hardcore? More like edgy

I'm neutral on edgy stuff, I think what makes it special is it's a way to show people things they normally wouldn't. It's pretty hard for people like me who also take it seriously because of things I've seen, but stuff like the body horror in OP's post kinda triggers my morbid curiosity.

This is unironically significantly less edgy than made in abyss

But wanting to die is totally normal, right?

For someone in your circumstances it is

I don't like isekai

Anyone got a list of every anime in this video? Some of them look pretty cool.

What's the one with arms and legs on the meat hook conveyor?

Because the world is going to shit. Edgy art flourishes when people are prosperous and have no real problems so they invent fake suffering to jerk off to. It's why teenagers love it. When life gets shit enough you don't want your fantasy to be shit too.

Anime is big business now, and not only is there not enough of a market for these kinds of shows that would justify spending time and resources to produce them over something much tamer, it also risks attracting negative attention on social media. From the eyes of risk-averse business, it's just not worth it.

I liked it when I was a kid
then I grew up realizing graphic shit is uncivilized

Edgy manga existed in the early 60s-70s because there were a lot of student protests att and japs were feeling real angsty.
Gorey anime were made as a way to cash-in on all the otaku into the cannibal holocaust mondo video craze imported from america/italy. Like someone else mentioned, tsutomu-chan is to blame. If he hadn't practiced irl vampirism, the gore OVAs would've kept coming out for at least another five years.
Edgy anime sort of had a revival post-eva, but teenager violence and pokemon related seizures quickly put an end to the fun.

This shit was never norrmal. It was a subset of the OVA market. Japan has always been anal about violence and gore, which is why the original Hokuto no Ken anime put everything in shadow and turned the blood white. And a lot of older anime if you watch them are surprisingly sterile in terms of violence. Like even if people are shooting and stabbing each other there will be little blood.

Hardcore edgeslop goreslop is boring because everyone knows or eventually learns that the terminus is just "sadistic violence against children" and it isn't interesting after that.

Watch Violence Voyager. I'm trying to find Burning Buddha Man right now.

I just watched Gantz and loved it, although a bit slow and unfinished.

Anything else like this, or better with gore, nudity, and good story?
