1122 aired episodes. 20 minutes a pop. That's 374 hours. Even if set aside 7 hours a week to just watch One Piece it would take over a full year to catch up.
It's too late to start watching One Piece
Not like you have anything better to do.
Why would you want to watch this
Read the manga. I generally hate people saying "read the manga because you can go through it quicker" but even if you read the manga at a normal pace it's still true since the anime, on top of filler arc, does drag things out a lot. People may say it's to offset how Oda's been pacing the manga for a while, which is true to an extent, but other times it's just to drag things out so they don't catch up to the manga as soon.
As someone who's been reading the manga since it had less than 500 chapters (in Japan), I feel like I'd be one of those people who wouldn't start the series at this point for it being too long. I'm glad I started it so early.
Just read the manga.
meanwhile, anon's putting 1600 hours on Genshin Impact / Animal Crossing / whatever
This
I generally hate people saying "read the manga because you can go through it quicker"
Why? It's true
Because manga shouldn't be seen as just a faster way to consume anime content. It should be appreciated on its own merits. And speedreading through a manga just to get the content faster is not conducive to appreciating manga as an art form. It is an aspect of the medium if you compare it to anime but it's no better than considering manga as a storyboard for an anime (existing or not).
Its kino
Only up to Thriller Bark, both the anime and manga, after the that it becomes Run Piece and then the haki fiasco comes along.
Not to mention all seiyuus, aside from Zoro's, and specially Luffy's, got their voices blown out.
the haki fiasco
1125, after tomorrow
you could reasonably skip at least a hundred and lose nothing
The anime is shit, read thr manga.
As someone who did read the manga (and fell off during the Egghead arc), this is not perfect advice anymore. The art degraded so fucking much, reading Oda's scribbles is actively unpleasant, it's a mess of ugly linework, tons of text, and bad page flow. The anime at least makes the backgrounds and characters easy to see.
The anime direction is complete garbage. Unfortunately you're right about Oda's art. I still think the manga is better though. The anime is trying way too hard to make everything "epic" for normalfags. Not everything should have flashing colors and effects and be filled with impact frames. They should have whoever has been in charge of the last several openings be lead director for the anime for a while and see what comes out of that because I think they've been really really good. Though for all I know it could be the same person in charge of the bullshit.
Watch One Pace, it cuts 400 episodes of fillers and still shots.
Nah. This a gay reddit opinion
Man. I really hate how anime centric manga discourse is.
Depends on how new you are to anime in general. A person who just discovered anime for the first time has the ability to binge hundreds of episodes a week, over a dozen a day. But after a year or two of acclimatation to the fandom, it's too late.
wasting time watching ugly shouneslop
couldn't be me
Episodes are crazy short anyways. The anime is so padded you only get about 10 minutes of manga content. There's 2 minute long openings and ending credits with a combined total of 4-5minutes. Then there's the 2-3minutes long recaps. You'll be hitting the skip button more often and plow through episodes at break neck speeds so its not even that bad.
1. watch special episodes in canon order
2. watch anime openings
3. play pirate warriors 3 and 4 [last arcs are filler and non canon]
4. read manga [it will take you all day long]
dunno what's more, watch movies?
moeblob opinion on Kino Piece
KWAB
The anime still regularly looks worse. It's not exclusive to Dressrosa even if that's probably where it was at its lowest.
If you set aside filler (as in literal filler episodes/arcs and not just what was added to scenes from the manga) and don't watch every opening/ending/recap/etc (which is about 5-8 minutes of every episode) it's more like 150 hours.
Not very demanding if you're not trying to just watch it all at once. Even re-watching it two or three times a year, it doesn't take very long to run out of episodes.
Even though the anime’s shit, I’d still rather watch that than most generic new shit these days
Whats the issue?
I'm literally catching up on the Pokemon anime without skipping any episodes.
What's the issue
Many people don't engage with something because they enjoy it, they do so purely to use it to try and interact with others. They see other people enjoying something and want to be part of that rather than actually caring about the subject itself.
Sure— but why would anybody even want to do that?
I watched a bit after the time skip so about ~516 then dropped it. The most agonizing thing was how padded it was. Previously, op, show, ep, next time. I am sometimes tempted to go back but it will be one pace. I have heard it only got worse with still shots and whatever.
What's the point of one pace when you can just 2x the boring bits? Why would you rather have some guy cut out the bits he doesn't like, that's stupid
And anyway Dressrosa and Wano were the worst part of the anime. I watched it all and I would recommend just reading the manga for those two, they're too slow in anime. The rest is fine
Why don't you just constantly have the speed hotkeys ready to skip the boring bits rather then have someone else do it who has already watched the entire episode and knows where the boring bits already are.
Because I want to sit back and enjoy the anime.
I enjoy things more when I'm in control.
the ride never ends
Isn't there meant to be some kind of remake coming out soon? I've been wanting to try One Piece for a little while now but haven't exactly due to the reasons stated of it being too long. I think if a remake came out and it didn't have all the padding issues has, I would be willing to give it a shot.
Do you like sandbox games where you can tune every setting? Feel like they would be up or alley.
Just read the wiki. You aren't missing anything.
Even if set aside 7 hours a week to just watch One Piece it would take over a full year to catch up.
And? Do you plan on dying within the year or something?
Oda decided to just ride it till he dies like Muira did
The anime also only has like 4 minutes of progression and 20 minutes of padding aka the dragonball special
You must not enjoy life
Oda has decided to compromise the series with shitty paneling to rush through things to finish the series it seems like. We are getting closer to the series ending. And Oda is still fairly young, though his health is still an issue.
Though looking them up right now, Oda is only 4 years younger than Miura was when he died. Anything is possible but I feel like One Piece is closer to ending than Berserk seemed when Miura died. The new people doing the series seem like they're working harder on getting to an end point. But for One Piece we've been 5 years away from ending for over 15 years so it's impossible to tell.
I used to have this online circle where they kept discussing about OP even though I hadnt read a single chapter of it and this was like 3-4 years ago.
But now I picked it up since 1,5 years ago and I just reached Wano, the circle practically haddied.
the circle practically haddied.
Just missing a space m8
Why would you not watch the filler?
it's a pretty safe city unless you go out at 8 PM without a bulletproof kevlar, otherwise it's pretty safe
I marathoned it in 4 weeks during summer break back in undergrad in like 2012.
I only have 579 episodes downloaded so I assume that's how far it was back then.
When you factor in filler and recap (fucking cp9 arc and the new content not starting until 7 minutes in) you could probably marathon it in 2 months.
Now count it with the filler and tell me how long it takes.
Because most of it is not good and has no meaning or impact on the rest of the story?
Tell me, do you also take the lettuce out of the hambuger like a little kid?
food analogy
defending filler no less
Yes, a food analogy. Are you nigger that can't comprehend what analogies are or just anorexic or something?
false equivalence
I eat a hamburger keeping everything it comes with.
I don't watch (most) One Piece filler because most of it is not very good and none of it has any relevance or impact on the story.
A better analogy would be the burger being part plant matter to cut down on cost. Do you like your burgers having parts that aren't actual meat or do you want a 100% beef burger?
just read it lmao
I don't think so, there are far better ongoing shonen. My current favorites are hxh, iruma, and ichi. There are also Gquuuuuux and the Yaiba reboot if you can count those, and I imagine SBR anime will likely be entertaining as well. Just tons of choices in shonen.
HXH
ongoing
Ok. I'm watching Naruto instead
Togashi will likely outlive you. I like HxH because it has an interesting mix of life or death games and battles, much like usogui and the more fun jojo arcs, as well as visiting many interesting locations and having a political undercurrent, again like jojo and usogui respectively. So it's a good combination of a lot of things I like. Stuff like Iruma fills in the gaps by being a charming and humorous SoL and Ichi being a bit nostalgicly CLAMPy. I'm not really left wanting for more in the shonen department, for everything else I'd have to turn to seinen.
the remake will fix that
Why? It's true
because the point of entertainment isn't to get it over with as quick as possible. reading wiki summaries is even faster than reading the manga
I started One Piece back in 2010. It was about 360 something episodes. I never realized it would go for this long. Best to just wait for the next adaptation if you don't have the time to catch up on a 1000 episode series. I don't blame anyone for passing up one piece for that reason alone.
don't have the time to catch up
I really don't get this sentiment. If you're just watching something to 'catch up' why are you watching to begin with?
That's like watching a movie just to see the credits.
One Piece is entirely FOMO driven, there are several polls labeling it as the most dropped manga in all of history.
Anon Babble is full of bandwagon jumpers that just want to be part of the hot new thing. See also Gundam.
You can read the entire manga in a month, and that's taking it slowly, you can read the entire manga in a week if you really want to.
A month would be over 30 chapters per day, which is definitely not a slow pace.
How much time do you need to read an 18 page chapter? Do you need to stop to on every word to figure out to consciously tell yourself what it means?
Say it takes 10 minutes to read a chapter (which may be high for you but that's a little over 30 seconds per page, which I think is reasonable). That's 300 minutes for 30 chapters (and I just did a simple calculation, the real number would be higher) which is 5 hours. Reading 5 hours of a single manga per day is binge tier pacing.
Welcome to the current one piece "fandom" where a bunch of pseuds born during the pandemic generated mountains of artificial hype just through the desire to be in the "secret" club of people who wasted months of their lives binging 1000 episodes of a children's show just to call it the best thing they've ever seen. Of course, people who genuinely think this may exist, but a majority aren't even trying to mask how ingenuine they are.
little over 30 seconds per page
I just cannot imagine what is going on in those 30 seconds besides someone blinking unevenly and drooling onto their keyboard.
Nigga what, you can read a chapter in less than 5 minutes, 30 chapters would take you 2 hours at most, you are not reading a fucking book.
NTA but One piece can be pretty wordy though, hence I took a year break before continuing again
Trying to find the newest, latest, or best quality show is such a joke. I chased that back about 20 years and I nearly stopped watching anime altogether because of it.
You fags seriously don't even look at the art or read the text. I don't know what I expected from Anon Babble though. Next you'll tell me that One Piece isn't even worth doing that for, but at that point why the fuck are you even bothering to read it? But then I'm a person that only reads a few chapters of several different manga a day. I have at one point spent hours reading a bunch of chapters in a single sitting but I stopped liking to do that after a while.
If you don't read as slow as I do the only conclusion is that you don't read at all
Your jaw is going to hit the floor when you learn that other people also don't need to consciously remind themselves to breathe.
can be
Alright, latest chapter was pretty wordy but I just gave it a read, 4:08 minutes, post me your record now.
One Piece fans seem like some real geniuses.
Less time than it takes me to reread Wheel of TIme after I got a job.
