1- Even Toei has said on occasion that Kamen Rider and Precure are also made to appeal to adults, even if the focus are kids.
2- The wording of the Princession interview is indeed a bit different, but still, we have toy ads in the middle of the episode (said ads have little girls dressed as the princesses). Even if the songs are the number 1 merch, it's also merch that could be directed to kids.
My personal conclusion: This show is still mainly for kids, even if they don't want to get complely boxed in the label. It might allow them to use some types of plot beats that Precure isn't allowed to. Or maybe it won't matter in the end.
There's no way to know for sure, we can only wait, but still, I would rather just watch and enjoy the show it expecting a genuine kid's show, no Madoka twist or any bullshit like that.

For those who watched, this one really feels more in like with what Mirai days had going on than Kimi to idol. including the HEAVY action focus
I guess comparing the vibe to Mirai Days isn't that far off, though this one isn't a sequel, it has a brand new cast, the funky setting of Alicepia, also the main writer is completely different and has an amusing background (made Nyaruko which is full of Kamen Rider references).
It's fun to keep guessing where it could go.
