I've been complaining about filler for over 25 years. Meiling isn't bad in the grand scheme of things, and CCS has plenty of other anime original content that adds to it. But that she is a character that has no impact on anything because she doesn't exist in the source is a potential reason people don't care about her as much as the literal main character.

Wasn't CLAMP involved in the creation of Meiling and the anime original content anyways? That doesn't make it filler as much as an expansion of the original source material

This. This is the actual reason. Before, it used to be "If you don't like it, the chances of it affecting the stuff you do like is miniscule" and you could ignore it. That's why we had people who liked talking about TRC in these threads or Kobato despite the implications they have on some grand CLAMP multiverse

The problem arises when Meiling can't actually change or afflict anything in the story. In Clear Card she showed up for one episode and vanished forever because she cannot just come in and solve any individual problem Sakura has.

Funny that, DC is partly responsbile for this because they're partly responsible for the MCU but they originally championed the opposite. That there existed multiple continuous, separate continuities that sure COULD potentially impact each other but very rarely did (and the former was almost completely made up of retired series, anyway). Sure they did away with that eventually and it's Anon Babble shit but it was unique and would melt the brains of zoomies now.
Now, CCS having done it is better because they never dropped it and Anon Babble has better lolis.

That being said, I wasn't initially saying it as a bad thing, just a reason why people may not care as much about her. The original content in CCS is very good. Though I find it ironic how much Anon Babble likes Meiling when they complain about relationship drama in literally everything else, when that's the main reason Meiling exists.

It's weird to bitch about filler in Cardcaptor Sakura though. The filler is pretty much the main attraction, it's well over half the series and it's not like the show has much of a plot to begin with. They took a manga that had 50 chapters and stretched it out to 70.
