Oban Starracer

Does anyone remember this show?
I always hated its character designs.
It isn't enought that they used cheap CGI for 80% of the show, but they also these extremely simplified character designs.

It was comfy.

I hate this show so I'm gonna bring it out of nowhere

okay nigga

It's anime, it was made by the same people who made pic related. Which I believe is hentai of Serial Experiments Lain

Not an anime. That said, your taste is shit, it has Soul.

oh this looks int..

cheap CGI for 80% of the show

ok bye

cope and seethe buddy
that said, not anime

I still never watched it despite being advertised on the jetix magazine.

there was a jetix magazine?

it's alright
the elf boy is cute

It's not anime, but I have always loved this show religiously for how cool it was compared to primitive American cartoons. French animation is superior. And it awakened my love for kot.

I wish there was an elf GIRL. How could they have bungled something so fundamental so badly? This is the true reason it's not an anime.

there's a human girl and she's cute

I just liked the sci-fi vehicles

The character designs are unconventional but nice. Never had a problem with them.
Also the opening theme is awesome and nostalgic.

She is noseless and her ears are short. In a word, she is trash.

I liked the elf boy's giant bug

I watched it as a kid. It was fine. Some nice characters and a decent storyline, I remember the racing bits being fun, it was perfect as something to keep in the background while I played vidya on my PC or some shit. It's very similar to a different not!anime cartoon of the same era, W.I.T.C.H.

I liked the goblin pirate ship.

I remembered that this existed, and watched the first few chapters then dropped it for now.
Her dad seems like a full piece of shit who can't even recognize his own daughter.
I don't even know why is Molly so fucking obssesed eith getting some recognition from her dad, or why couldn't he even explain to his family that the world would be nuked if they didn't race in space and win.
Im not even sure if i want to keep watching this to figure it out.
Molly is still cute thou.

It has nothing in common with W.I.T.C.H. That being said, both are great and actually better than most anime.

My dad actually liked it and told me to come watch it with him when I was a kid.

Her dad seems like a full piece of shit who can't even recognize his own daughter.

Would you recognise your daughter who grew up without you and also went out of her way to change her appearance?

I grew up with this, totally spies and dragon hunters, and I'm not even French

It has nothing in common with W.I.T.C.H.

Both were great background noise because they had a handful of episodes and spent years in reruns on Jetix, so I had them (and especially W.I.T.C.H.) down cold.

That being said, both are great and actually better than most anime.

lmao no. They were good cartoons, but I'll take average shonenslop over them any day. I watched them more than enough as a kid.

I'll take average shonenslop

Opinion instantly disregarded

My dad did, so did my grandfather after not seeing them in 4 years after their divorce.
They instantly recognized me by the way i walked, the correlation between possible age and height i should have at the moment, the way i walked and voice tone. They weren't sure at first if it was me until they saw my face and notice that i was breathing weird because of my deviated septum. All of this while i was sporting a buzzcut instead of the usual long as hair i used to had.
Same shit with my friend who i haven't seen in 10 years, no photos or anything.
Last time i saw him he was a fat manlet of a kid, then when i finally found him again dude became a 6ft tall metal head musician with beard and dreadlocks so large i wasn't sure if he was trying to look like a jamaican or a viking. He wasn't even speaking our native language anymore, i found him trying to learn polish, all while sounding like a 80 year old smoker due to the constant gutural screaming.
And yet, i recognized him when he was making a joke with a random person about some medicine he used to make fun of because it was dogshit (pretty much paracetamol that caused gases and farts).
So yeah, people can recognise other people by something rather unique.
So, either Molly's Dad is a piece of shit, or he hasn't seen his own daughter since she was born.

The least believable part of this post is that anyone would actually learn Polish.

cheap

Retarded kid

You really overestimate these cartoons.

I correctly estimate shonenshit

Any anon that hasn't watched it should give it a shot, it's a really good show.
Nothing groundbreaking, but still pretty high quality.
Basically Avatar-tier, but it flew under normalfags' radar.

If memory serves me, they use CGI only for the backgrounds during the races.

Also the Ships during races
I'll never forgive them for rushing the ending

It's either that or leaving it unfinished forever.

Weird thing is most seasonal anime never get an ending (of any kind).
Season 2 of One Punchman is a great example of non-ending.

I thought this was a "we have FLCL at home" anime when I saw this poster and never watched it

Skill issue. The trick is to end it on a satisfying enough note to leave the watchers happy.

elfkiss.jpg - 1920x1080, 344.14K

Yeah, I watched it on TV back when it aired in Europe, I remember it being pretty good, of course I only watched it dubbed.
I recently looked at the japanese dub version and found that it's even better than the version I watched, I may end up rewatching that with subs someday.

Every time some golem says "europe" instead of his real country, my heart shrivels a little.

I don't think it'd be all that interesting to specify that it was aired in Hungary at one point, I think probably most of the continent got the jetix/animax catalogue eventually, with some delays.

The French are truly the Japanese of the west. They're very imaginative and focused on aesthetics, but they can't write a plot worth a damn.

Lastman's anime adaptation had a pretty good plot iirc

How long until the remake?

It was made by a French production company and the animation was outsourced to Japan. If this is anime then so are Totally Spies, Martin Mystery, etc. Hell, Batman The Animated Series's first season is mostly anime by that standard, since many of the episodes were animated by TMS, Spectrum, Junio and Sunrise.

hopefully never

all of btas is anime
forthermore, those responsible made the big o when it ended which reuses the exact same style

Irrelevant. Oban isn't anime and neither is Batman.

Based dad.

If it looks like anime, it's anime.

Less anime than Valerian and Laureline

all of btas is anime akshually. all of those episodes were animated by japanese or outsourced twice

right? this is like calling big o (season 2) not anime because it has the same target audience as btas and is made by the same people. americans are coping that their one cartoon holy grail was made with japanese hands

btas is more anime than something like space dandy or lazarus. you niggaz have never watched the big o and it shows.

Haven't had a bottle of that in a long time.

Its on Nyaa so it anime. Wanna fight about it?

All jokes aside, reminder the Bluerays came out not long ago.

be descendant of the guy who built the Eiffel Tower

"How do I live up to the legacy of my great ancestor?"

"I know!"

make podracing anime with an extremely hot tomboy

somehow get the composer of Gurren Lagann and Soul Eater on board to do the OST

I kneeled in 2006 and I'm kneeling now.

cheap CGI

Are you out of your mind? This show is one of the few examples of CGI that aged fairly well.

Are burgers aware of this at all?

They hate good shows, so no.

still one of my favorite series

If it didn't air on Coonami or 4KidsTV, it probably wasn't mainstream in the U.S. This ran on Disney channels, the boy-oriented of which were never hugely popular. So while it's undoubtedly more well known than stuff that went direct-to-DVD, you'll inevitably find lots of people who were alive during its run who've never heard of it.

How's the CGI quality compared to shows like Code Lyoko?

Way better. Code Lyoko's 3d characters looked like demons.
OP is just being a retarded lying faggot once again.

There are CGI shows coming out today that look worse than Oban. They never use 3D models of the characters for closeups and the vehicles blend well with the 2D assets. It also helps that the action is directed very well.

It aired on one of the lesser big 3 cartoon channels before going to Disney. I think it was like either Fox Family or ABC Family(it may have been on Foxkids too). I think they barely advertised it too. I can't even remember if they finished it before going to Disney.

If that's the case, then its CGI can be easily overlooked. After all, Code Lyoko is wildly beloved despite its very dated early 2000s CGI.

It was definitely on Fox Kids because this is where I saw it.

They used 3D only for machines and buildings so it looks alright

ABC Family is Disney. They bought out Fox Family's business and got their U.S. cable channel alongside all of their international ones. They rebranded the international channels to Jetix and later, Disney XD. In the U.S., Jetix existed solely as a block on ABC Family and ToonDisney (which was a pre-existing rerun dump cable channel that was later rebranded to Disney XD).

None of Disney's secondary cable efforts were really mainstream popular in the U.S. The original Beyblade show was Jetfix-only and I strongly suspect that's why there's so little nostalgia for it compared to the assloads of zoomers obsessed with the second series.

Oban is about as anime as a show with a western director is gonna get

Entire production crew moved to Japan, hired japanese animation studio

Lived in Japan for a couple years making it

Got Yoko Kanno and Taku Iwasaki to do the music

Dubbed in Japanese first, then French, then English, all under direct supervision of the director, not a separate hired dubbing studio

One of the co-directors of Oban stays in Japan, keeps working with the studio, ends up heading Basquash! years later

In Europe.

zoomer hates Thomas Romain/based japano-franco collaborations

Filtered

Now watch your brain explode when you realize the same person was responsible for both shows.

Code Lyoko looks the way it did on purpose, you got filtered. MANY such cases of nu-Anon Babble lacking animation literacy.

I watched it semi-recently and liked it.

Oh wow
