No, it’s not really a “dead” town. It’s just like any other town in Japan. If you want to see actual dead towns, they’re mostly up north. The issue with Maebashi is that it doesn’t have any tourist hotspots or touristy attractions. Other places might have a castle or a tram or something. Maebashi have none of that. It’s about as plain as it gets.
