I think there is a lot more nuance that you are missing out when people talk about censorship, I think anyone who has been around can see the increase in it, but censorship causes such weird things like for example the lack of butts in the entire shower scene but they kept showing the girls breasts before that with a little soap on. It just rarely makes sense and even today that kind of censorship makes just as little sense when they do it, they'll show a full panty shot then 3 minutes later they'll do a void upskirt or a panty shot but only show like 1/4 of the shot cutting out 3/4 of the body? Its kind of weird to even explain.
I think the biggest form of censorship today is not nudity, but taking sexual character designs from manga and then altering them to fit one of the handful of cookie cutter character designs that are used in most anime and for the most part desexualized. Many attractive characters have been scammed by this. I mean just look at the character designs for this show, that alone practically serves as fan service at all times.
I think that you are right that its actually getting better in the past year or so, we are seeing improvements in general, but it was going downhill for a very very long time so I do want to say I completely understand the doomers.

I'll give this one. There are many cases where they'll do this and then turn around and show the character naked later. The only reason I can think of for this is the studio cheaping out on details, or maybe for broadcast in some cases as you can censor a few nude scenes but it would be a lot harder to change a design for a BD or something. I think cheapness in general is the main problem though. Sometimes you'll see something in a lower budget older work and think "no way would they have this today" simply because it looks so smooth and good and requires actual animation. There are too many shows now that are borderline slideshows. Although I suppose that is something that may have been true for most of anime history. I feel like lower budget stuff looks a lot uglier now though. As for the other part, I think the improvements recently have come from the success of stuff like Mahoako. In the end, a lot of the stuff is dictated by old guys who want money. They had fallen into the trap of thinking they could force the next mass appeal thing. They've come to realize though that they can't, and in the end, sex still sells.

Why not take everything out of entertainment because you can view low quality snippets of similar shit online.
