I don't actually care too much about drama and I think the comedy so far is the best and most consistently good aspect of Idol even in the less good eps, but that episode specifically is just miles ahead of all the rest in terms of direction and what it does with its animation. It genuinely almost feels like one of those things you'd stumble around when looking at what a notable director was getting up to before having a big break.

Mayu shipping Purirun and Meroron would be fun, and if they really don't want the Wonderfuls to punch, they could shield something. I wouldn't mind, but I'd be disappointed if it only were the Wonderfuls and not a different older season too.

Well, it is, just not when you're making 50 episodes on a yearly cycle. But I'm also a little jaded on Idol specifically because after it peaked with that episode we had the worst three episode stretch in the show (triple transformation scene played in full to fill time for three episodes in a row are you for real) capped off by a plot milestone that wasn't even that good. Like I'm actually pondering if something might have happened behind the scenes because Trio Dreams and Meroron's debut episode feel like they were put in a blender and things ended up split between them. Because it's so weird the whole "generals get a power up, fight has good animation, solo attack no longer works so a group one is needed" ended up in the latter of those. I also don't really like said group attack but that might be a personal problem.

The Wonderful movie only confirmed the crossovers during the late June PV, so we'll have to wait until the midsummer movie PV to see if crossovers will happen.
I know that the first Wonderful movie PV had a hint for the Maho crossover whereas the first Kimi to Idol movie PV doesn't seem to have any sort of hint. It's possible that the movie has no crossover; I just find it somewhat unlikely since there's currently still only one movie a year.

8, 9, and 10 were all laughably low budget, but they were all very enjoyable episodes.
I do think it's a little weird that the new MotW did its debut after the new group attack was shown, but episode 11 was kind of packed as is, and the whole reason why the generals got the new MotW was because they were so soundly defeated even when they actually put in maximum effort.

I like the sleepover one but the Nana one is not good. It feels like they realised her character is the blandest of the trio and tried to give her character by going against what character she did have, in a way you already know is unlikely to ever be relevant again.
None of what makes it good is inherently related to it being dramatic though. You can have creative visuals for happy and SoL stuff as well. Idol just hasn't bothered to do so yet.

I agree, even low-budget episodes have been enjoyable in Idol, the Nana fushigi episode has a good storyboard despite the fight scene being a power point.
I don't think Idol is aiming to be top 5 material but it's still a very enjoyable season to me so I can't complain too much either.

It isn't that different from a new generation of Precure really, every new Precure season has a new staff, a new direction, a new theming, etc. Fresh, KiraKira, Go Princess, Wonderful and Futari Wa are all seasons with arguably more differences between themselves than Princession Orchestra and Kimi to Idol. Which is to say PO wouldn't need a lot of tweaking to fit Precure.

The past two days I have been complaining about how the past two episodes are boring and overly serious. I don't think I am wrong, but getting through all of it, I have never been more happy for the last quarter of an episode.

So real quick a summary for you anons that need it: Precures make it back from Hope Kingdom with Towa in tow-a. Precures presumably rest for the day with some deep apprehension of what just happened, while Towa deals with some nightmares. Upon Towa getting up she runs into Haruharu playing her brother's song and this upsets Towa only to summon the Dyspair Queen. The queen captures Towa and starts sucking her again, and the precures take action. The Queen is strong, too strong, and in a last ditch effort, they send Flora into Towa's vine prison where Flora encourages Towa to play with her, destroying the Queens' tendrils. In an attempt to kill Towa the Queen inadvertently empowers Towa and creating Cure Scarlet and purifying the last Dres Up Keys.

Somehow I have managed to stay completely ignorant of Cure Scarlet in all these years and DAAAAAMN. Its rare I get excited for something in Anime, outside of having read an obscure light novel that is finally getting an anime, and man everything about Scarlet had me sweating with excitement. Really turned me into a little child and shaking my fists. What a great end to this little ark.

The way the characters and plot are written and delivered. The structure too, i didnt even need to watch a preview to know what was coming next. Seriously felt like I was watching something mass produced in a factory. You can just tell no passion was put into making this season, just checking some boxes off in order to get a paycheck.

Otona is bad period. The Coco/Nozomi romance wasn't handled great, the show bullied Komachi harder than the Smile novel bullied Nao, and the overarching plot is really bad. I think if the former two aspects weren't there, I could think of it as good, forced environmental themes be damned, but I am compelled to call it bad.

I love Maho 2 and think it's an absolutely necessary sequel, even if that's mostly because my personal headcanon that the series hints that the Maho family will find each other again no matter how many times they die and get reborn blows away the flaws the series does have. I think the Smile novel is neat as a character study, but it's out there for sure. I'd say it made me appreciate the Smiles as individuals more even if the overall plot is somewhat questionable.

Not much to say about Ichika because she really is just that bland and forgettable as an MC, but hey atleast she makes funny faces xD. Just uninspired and low effort archetypes. The team has no cohesion that makes them believable as characters or friends, the dialogue and interactions are cringe tier, the 3 later generals are complete and utter jokes. The show has barely any good humor no you need to actually write good jokes, reaction faces alone dont make for a funny show. Apart from a a couple episodes the fights are really bad, the ones where they le reject the power of darkness, use their stock finisher, and then say "minna!" and instantly move into the group finisher are just embarrassing in terms of effort and amount of fucks given from the producers.

Like I said in that post, archetypes are fine if you atleast put in a little effort and expand from that original mold, add some flair, spice things up a bit, but no they did the bare minimum and called it a day. If all you do is copy and paste the same bland thing done hundreds of times before its low effort and shameful.

No there really wasn't. She was overly enthusiastic about her passion as a child and got ridiculed for it, that caused her to become secluded and shy. Through meeting the MC and befriending the rest of the team she gained some confidence and was able to express herself more honestly and share her passion with others. She has the same plain old episodes of hating the way she is, and then throughout the course of talking with her friends and fighting with the villain she learns to love herself despite her flaws. Also don't pretend you're willing to have a discussion, you just want to defend your shitty show and its cardboard cutout characters from the criticism it deserves.
