Lots of stores default to putting JP or putting nothing (box/paperwork is listed from JP already). Yes the law says it cares about CoO but customs is so overworked theyre likely not gonna open every box to check the made in china sticker.
Some people get enough to tip the limit in one go but if youre smart, just deliver items in separate bulk shipments across months
acouple of people on MFC said their most recent HLJ orders got declared as JP, probably cuz they too dont wanna deal with annoyed customers

People have been saying that Amiami lists CoO as Japan, so you should be fine unless they open it.

Which is strange because I had sent them an email last month asking this and they sent me the following:
Our shipments originate from here in Japan but on the invoice the country of manufacture for each item will be listed correctly as to where the items were made whether that be Japan, China or other countries.

Unfortunately we would not be able to label all items as made in a country other than where they actually were. As as stated in our Help Center, "False customs declarations are a crime, and so HobbyLink Japan cannot comply with requests to undervalue or mislabel packages."

It works out for me if they decide to label everything as Japan, so I’m not going to complain.

They probably caved. Of course lots of stores are just gonna be like "oops we're ignorant, it's on the buyer" when it comes to this. Technically it is on the buyer and you could get dinged with a penalty. I just look at it from a common sense point of view - customs really doesnt have the manpower (especially after having doge eating thru many govt sections) to examine anime goods, which already look like they always come from japanland. I have a bulk shipment too from HLJ in the next few months so I'd also benefit from them just blindly putting JP or nothing on the forms. Just gotta wait and see as more HLJ shipments get sent out and people give their feedback.

I suspect they group orders together by area ranges, and that their estimates are based on worse case scenarios. I don't think DHL has ever been late for me- always either very early or on time.
