There's so many fucking good scenes in it. That one you posted. The camera tilt with her dancing in front of the mirror. The whole decision of having so much of her time spent in front of a mirror in the first place and the way it represents her confronting her feelings. The shot of her watching the videos on her phone in the dark with only her hand and leg in frame. The part where you only see her face reflected in her eye. All the shots with her eyes cut out of frame. The fucking upside down Uta in Kokoro's falling teardrop with the fancy colours. Some of it is very basic (oh look the sad girl is in the shadows and her friends there to cheer her up are in the light), but it feels so much more like it's trying to do something visually interesting than so many other episodes in the entire show. Well that's classic Precure, some episodes will get a production bump, some will be more standard but still well-made and with some cool stuff here and there, some will be more Aoyama.

Well, it is, just not when you're making 50 episodes on a yearly cycle. But I'm also a little jaded on Idol specifically because after it peaked with that episode we had the worst three episode stretch in the show (triple transformation scene played in full to fill time for three episodes in a row are you for real) capped off by a plot milestone that wasn't even that good. Like I'm actually pondering if something might have happened behind the scenes because Trio Dreams and Meroron's debut episode feel like they were put in a blender and things ended up split between them. Because it's so weird the whole "generals get a power up, fight has good animation, solo attack no longer works so a group one is needed" ended up in the latter of those. I also don't really like said group attack but that might be a personal problem.

The Wonderful movie only confirmed the crossovers during the late June PV, so we'll have to wait until the midsummer movie PV to see if crossovers will happen.
I know that the first Wonderful movie PV had a hint for the Maho crossover whereas the first Kimi to Idol movie PV doesn't seem to have any sort of hint. It's possible that the movie has no crossover; I just find it somewhat unlikely since there's currently still only one movie a year.

I do think it's a little weird that the new MotW did its debut after the new group attack was shown, but episode 11 was kind of packed as is, and the whole reason why the generals got the new MotW was because they were so soundly defeated even when they actually put in maximum effort.

None of what makes it good is inherently related to it being dramatic though. You can have creative visuals for happy and SoL stuff as well. Idol just hasn't bothered to do so yet.

That whole episode was about how she was imitating other people to find herself, and her intro episode had the backstory where she got her defining Cure gimmick from Uta herself.

I agree, even low-budget episodes have been enjoyable in Idol, the Nana fushigi episode has a good storyboard despite the fight scene being a power point.
I don't think Idol is aiming to be top 5 material but it's still a very enjoyable season to me so I can't complain too much either.
I like the balance of having a comedy-centric season with Kimi to Idol while Princession Orchestra offers something akin to GoPri/Hugtto in the side. It's the perfect mix of meat on watermelon.

I think you need to learn the difference between saying something sucks and acknowledging the faults in something you enjoy.

It isn't that different from a new generation of Precure really, every new Precure season has a new staff, a new direction, a new theming, etc. Fresh, KiraKira, Go Princess, Wonderful and Futari Wa are all seasons with arguably more differences between themselves than Princession Orchestra and Kimi to Idol. Which is to say PO wouldn't need a lot of tweaking to fit Precure.

Kimi to Idol feels like a top 10 season to me. Maybe it could be top 5 if whatever they are planning with Kaito warrants all of the out of show promotion they are doing for the guy or if Meroron improves the already excellent Cure + Purirun dynamic significantly. I won't be disappointed if it just stays a top ten season though.
