it's never a waste to learn Japanese just to be able to read raw manga and play unburgerized video games

Full (and good) AI translation tech is already here.
this
learn japanese
pirate raw sites are basically inexistent and/or outdated so you have to buy everything
western credit card blocked because they hate waito piggus
Then why do they only use bad AI translation tech?
good

doesn't exist

There's your problem.

If you really knew japanese you would know how to get around this.
You mean YOUR problem.
agreed
learn moonrunes or die
Anyone who tells you that AI is good enough is a shill
Anyone who tells you to trust (((human))) trannylators is also a shill as well.
I know one guy that learned Japanese, I used to admire him for it.
He is non binary now
I don't admire him or want to learn Japanese anymore
…mhm, sure.
Hm, no, you won't gaslight me into wasting years of my life only to get bragging rights on a chinese washboarding forum. Sucks that happened to you. Sorry!
The problem isn't the tech. AI is already being used for more complex and difficult work that translating manga well. It just isn't being harnessed for this purpose because it would take a lot of development from talented people that know how to harness AI and they're busy with more profitable things
Anon you are a simple minded and weak willed retard
Good, I don't want shallow Anon Babbleniggers being drawn to my hobbies just to escape the "western rot" (which they will inevitably bring with them)
Every mentally ill person also drinks water, breathes oxygen. Feel free to stop doing both any time.
Nah. There's a correlation, a strong one even.
1. Autism
2. Becoming something you are not even if you can "speak the language"
Name one
Translations will never replace knowing the original language.
The tech is here, the implementation is not. Man you guys are really dense.
What are you implying? Can you be clearer?
Wait till people just want lazy dubs

and good
retard
Wtf is it really? Can I get a QRD?
QRD: it's not
i'll spoonfeed since im in a good mood, try booklive.
it's not...yet, anyway.
until the MTL can read the pictures in addition to the speech bubbles and follow along the story, we're a long ways off.
unless of course, there's a few volunteers to input info into a database or something every week to help it understand so it can work its computing magic
autism
uh, sure it helps but it's only hard for the first few months to a year maybe(it depends on your progress). when you get to the point where you can comprehend SOME content like iyashikei/slice of life, then you start genuinely enjoying the content and it stops feeling like a chore. later you just work your way up when you feel like you've built enough of a base for content that's a bit more complex. the hardest part is choosing content that's around your level but you just develop sort of an intuition for these things.
Becoming something you are not even if you can "speak the language"
i doubt there are many people who think that, sounds ridiculous. just treat it as a hobby and you'll be fine.

Haven't seen that happen anywhere. What I have seen is payment companies, most notably MasterCard but also VISA, Paypal and American Express limiting the stores because they sell eromanga. For most the conclusion is selling you points which with you can buy eromanga and other content.
The Japanese are making their own TL capabilities, how long it'd take we're not sure but it's already better than 'lizers
pirate raw sites are basically inexistent and/or outdated so you have to buy everything
are you a dumbfuck or are you trying to gatekeep japanese ? you can find almost anything
Pirate raws for smaller magazines and series are rare and generally have so terrible quality that they aren't worth using.
Digital manga is cheap and the blocks he mentions don't actually exist.
I dont disagree but you have to consider that some of us dont have the time because we have jobs/careers and we dont have the time to enjoy the hobbies
ironic claim considering how the quality of scanlations has noticeably dropped since the advent of MTL
2. Becoming something you are not even if you can "speak the language"
this whiffs of projection
if you dont have time for anything except your job you should kys desu

Learning Japanese like it was 20 years ago isn't going to give you some gold mine of untranslated stuff. Fan translations and soon, AI translations have covered a ton of stuff and the very few things that haven't been translated by this point are often pretty obscure and can be difficult to get a hold of. It's also not gonna make you any happier as a person since the reason people chose to learn on Anon Babble is typically for media consumption, I know for myself that I barely speak it, because I barely talk to people to begin with.
What I will say is that in the 3.5 years I've spent learning (and for the rest of my life as I continue to never stop learning), I've gained a much deeper appreciation of Japanese story-telling, art and culture than I previously had. It's not something to do if your only interest in it is simply out of spite of the poor state of JtE translations and woke culture. It's not a task I would consider difficult, I don't think I'm a smart person, it just requires an extreme amount of time. But I think any true Anon Babblenon, who considers himself an otaku, should at least try it, if you truly love Japan. Of course, you can just reply
Spending 3.5 years to watch cartoons
And largely you be correct. I could have done a lot else with that time and made far more money or had much more valuable skills. But I enjoyed my time with it. It's connected me further with the stuff I enjoy and given me a deeper appreciation of it.
Fan translations and soon, AI translations have covered a ton of stuff and the very few things that haven't been translated by this point are often pretty obscure
For manga? That's patently false. Barely anything gets translated at all. Games will depend on what you care about.
can be difficult to get a hold of
A decade ago that was the case but digital distribution has grown a lot since then. You can get all but a handful of magazines and new volumes as soon as the print version comes out and a ton is digital only anyway. Older series aren't universally available but not unheard of either.
Im gonna be honest with you anon, i barely watch anime nowadays. All im doing is reading webnovels and lightnovels. And the ones im liking the most are the korean ones. Learning japanese wont do me any good.
New generations become increasingly more tech-illiterate first due to early smartphone influence and now even more recently born growing up with AI. Do you really think later in the future means the average tech literacy is higher? That's just wishful thinking.
For manga I suppose so, I was mostly speaking in games and anime since my manga tastes are pretty basic and the untranslated stuff sitting on my backlog like Sanda wind up getting translated before I get to them. For the other point, I was talking from a pirate's perspective which I forgot to mention. I've spent far more money post learning Japanese than pre learning Japanese on Japanese media simply because raw torrents are so often dead, missing, or extremely low quality, even for extremely popular works. Luckily bookwalker and kindle and whatnot are quite cheap and the yen is in shambles but a lot of people who are used to English centered, Japanese media piracy are in for a awakening when they see how hard it can be to find stuff.
Saar.
she thinks being an N1 speaker magically grants the cultural context and subconscious understanding to truly 'get' Japanese media
lmao@u

I started learning Japanese because I was interested in PC-98 games. I only picked up manga and console RPGs as learning tools.
For games there's so much bullshit and compromises in translation, regardless of whether they're made now or several decades ago, that you're always better of with the original. Manga isn't much different.
it doesn't?
Intersect learning Japanese with programming and the tranny rate goes up even more.
It's honestly quite disturbing.
Like, I'm not some christian sexual purity moralfag, I totally get autogynephilia and gender bender fantasy and wishing to be the little girl, but actually taking hormones, cutting your dick off, and demanding the entire world to respect you for it... That's not okay.
Try watching Joshiraku
Yeah he is also a software engineer. lol
The same way a modern day Japanese doesn't get cultural context for things made in the Showa era or somebody raised in Hokkaido won't understand everything about life in Kyushu. The more you consume the more you'll pick up. Actively look up things if you're actually interested in that.
