He gave her the strongest support in the story, shoehorned a flashback about her meeting Holy and Kira, made the final villain her ex-bf, made her the reason why everything started by helping Tooru, and even made her a key player in the functioning of Go Beyond.
All of this and she still feels like she has no value outside of her stand, she has no agency, purpose and neither the guts to be part of this story.

Wonder of U has the ability to "edit" someone's personal history, with Tooru being able to enter, observe, and interact with them.

This ability relies mainly on how much Tooru knows about someone, as he can't use WoU on someone's memories if he has no idea what they are.

Examples could include Tooru/Wou inserting themselves into someone's memory of a funeral. Tooru and his 'grandfather' could either be a comforting, supportive friend to gain that person's trust or use this tragic event as emotional manipulation for later use.

Tooru is a Rock Human, someone with no personal experiences, family moments, or notable events in his life. He just exists. Wonder of U reflects his desire to have any sort of connection with someone, human or not, through "inserting" himself into people's minds as a trustworthy, friendly, and good guy.

Said desire, while sympathetic, is twisted by him being totally unable to comprehend why people's memories are good or bad and his willing to use people and discard them when he gets what he wants.

Tooru's biggest enemy, then, is Josuke who is a man without a defined past. A new human with no real memories to manipulate.

While Tooru lives off other's memories like a parasite, Josuke forges a new future for himself by making his own memories.

He's a pretty boring character, with his tiresome monologues and annoying attitude toward Yasuho (albeit somewhat justifiable).
But the fact that he's been through so much shit simply because he's that passionate about fruit (to the point of dying for it) is a bit funny, especially considering he never became close with the rest of the cast.
He is the only companion character in the entire series that feels like just an acquaintance rather than a friend.

I don't care if it doesn't make sense. Bring back BtD. A time travel plot would be far more interesting than go beyond

I'm a new reader and the pacing was still miserable... Josuke took like 10 pages to shoot the bubble, and then it took 6 more pages for it to (almost) hit Tooru for it to end in a cliffhanger... The novelty of those splash pages wore off real fast, and that's just one moment of horrible pacing. I can't fathom anyone reading this monthly, much less with breaks.

It's pretty shit. Some good moments here and there, mostly because WoU on paper is very cool, but the context almost always ruin it.

It's definitely worse than I remember which is a shame. I love everything about WoU except for how he's executed. Kei's death always pissed me off, so seeing it again didn't help. And to top it off, toru's defeat just isn't satisfying. Every villain had a satisfying thematic death except maybe dio, so this villain getting killed by schrodinger's bullet just felt limp. I binged through all of jojolion so I was lighter on it than others. I shudder to think about people who went through this shit monthly.

I barely had any opinions on Jojolion that weren't about Joshu, but reading it again without a month long gap between chapters, I can definitively say that it's my least favorite part. I just can't tolerate the messy plot and Joshu humiliation at the end after Milagro Man.

It can "go beyond" the "logic" of the "illness".

4th or 5th reread here (for real). I like Jojolion as vignettes of ideas, a playground for Araki to explore concepts. It is a bad serialized manga and I accept that more every time I read through the arcs. I find the individual fights less enjoyable, I get more frustrated with the inconsistencies and it isn't triumphant at all. I just get sad. Because at one point this was my favorite part.

Toru continues getting better though, I love him as a villain so much I really do think he mogs a lot of other jjba baddies. He became a punching bag, a walking symbol for the failures of Jojolion but he is not the problem. He's a great foil for josuke, he encapsulates the themes of the story, he has personality, he has motivations and they really are not as opaque as many say. It's a bad arc, Wonder of U was a poorly conceptualized stand. He is a good character. I don't like Gappy as much as I remembered though, he's becoming shallow the more time I spend with him. :(

These threads do make me depressed kinda because while it's super fun to shit on jojolion, it's probably the most memeable part, I think a lot of people are using the opportunity to mock Araki as a way to masquerade their true disappointment with the story. It's a story that's BEGGING to be loved, there is so much to be charmed by with the premise/world/characters and I just don't believe anyone in these storytime threads that is saying shit like "nah it was always bad from the start" dude I bet you used to love jojolion and you're just bitter now.

It's a great study for writers I think. Recently I watched True Detective season 2 and thought it was super similar to Jojolion in problems, with similar strengths of great "conceptual vignettes" would recommend it for anyone captivated by this part in a morbid autopsy sense

I've been thinking about it, and a lot of the flaws with this series make sense when you consider that it functions on playground logic. You know, shit like "Your Gyarados can't hurt my Charizard because his fire evaporates the water."
A good example of this is the Spin. The Spin is actually pretty consistent in what it does: it makes things rotate. The problem is that Araki has the mindset of a 5 year old, so he claims that things that are rotating can do a lot of dumb shit.

It's hard to keep up with what a character with a lot in their body is going on when everything round them is just as detailed. As for pacing, Araki was often at risk of being terminated by WSJ so there was pressure to keep fights more concise to keep readers hooked.

The fight does a solid job of explaining why Risotto didn't immediately go for the kill shot if you actually paid attention, plus the decision of having Doppio be the underdog is a good one as it highlights how resourceful he is in the way that he pulls off tricks like using the frog to track Risotto down and luring Aerosmith to finish him off. It's a genuinely well constructed fight

They foreshadowed Kira and added some anime original soul like Morioh radio. In part 6 they made Anasui a man from the beginning. These are minor changes though, I don't know how they can fix part 8. Part 8 has plot points that act as major motivators for an arc then get completely retconned. You can't just change a line of dialogue here and there, you would have to change the entire arc.
For example Kira was supposedly in his apartment a few days before the start of the series, being attacked by Ojiro then he escaped. This is the entire motivation for the Soft & Wet arc, if you say Kira was not there then Yasuho wouldn't see a photo of Kira and run out of the apartment. Naked lady wouldn't recognize him and assume he came back to save her so she wouldn't tell him how the stand works. The entire arc falls apart. But if you don't change the arc, how do you reconcile it with Vitamin C where Kira does not seem on guard at all even though he was supposedly just attacked?
