Casval blamed the Zabi family and plotted to assassinate them, so he joined the Zeon military academy to get closer to them. There he met a doppelganger, Char Aznable. Kycilia learned Casval was still alive and ordered the shuttle he was flying on shot down, but Casval anticipated this and switched tickets with Char, so Char Aznable died instead. Casval then adopted Char's identity fully, joining the military.

Kycilia knew he was really Casval all along, but began to trust him instead of remain suspicious. Casval got his revenge in the end in 0079, but here Kycilia still thinks Char is trustworthy because he stopped the Solomon drop.
