I tend to think Shikinami is a stand-in for her own fans in 3.0+1.0. Stuck in the past, resentful, projecting anger on shinji (that is to say, anno) while still holding onto the positive feeling we got from their offering 14 years prior. That’s why I think he displays other female characters as voluptuous but tends to show Asuka as a more uncomfortably realistic teenage bird body. i seriously doubt there was that much thought put into it. i think asuka being flat is just like her hair changing to have more defined twintails, that is: shifting her to align more with the now codified and established visual language of angry tsundere. not as meta commentary but just because the lens people see through has changed over the decades.

I’m mostly thinking of the scene where Maris ass is shot from a low angle and looks huge and Asuka is shot from above and looks tiny. But then in the wide angle they’re pretty much the same. I may indeed be overthinking it but that part in particular seemed intentional.

2nd Movie

Completley derailed by rewrites due to Mari's popularity. Non-Eva fans enjoyed the movie without realizing how bad some of the changes are. It is also retroactivley worse due to not getting a proper sequel.

3rd Movie

Absolute shit. Fails as a follow up to the 2nd movie, too many new characters, the entire cast acts retardedr. Anno goes overboard with the CG and doesn't know how to make it look decent.

4th Movie

A slight redemption to the shit stirred up by the 2nd and 3rd movie. Actual good character moments and feels like a proper Evangleion entry. CG integration is the worst it has been.
