Issue with the Supernovas is that most of them were just added in on a whim. Oda admitted that he designed at the last minute just for the hell of it. They were never all gonna get equal screentime. Getting shoved into Wano was probably the best thing for Kid. There was no way he was gonna be the headlining act on his own. After Fishman Island, Luffy formed an alliance with Law on Punk Hazard, immediately after which he faced own a Warlord. After that, they took on a fucking Emperor. There was never room for Kid to have something for himself.

Also, something important to keep in mind is that the East Blue, which is where Luffy was active prior to entering the Grand Line, is the most PEACEFUL of the Blues. The most dangerous entities in the East were Arlong (who's originally from the Grand Line) and Don Krieg (who, prior to Luffy, was the biggest pirate the East had ever produced). Luffy's initial bounty of 30m was thanks to him picking a fight with the two biggest fish in his entire quadrant. Afterwards, he jumped to 100m by defeating Crocodile in Arabasta, and then 300m after Enies Lobby.

The thing about this is that this is entirely abnormal and unnatural. Fledgling pirates aren't supposed to jump to 30 million just a few months after their debut, and they're not supposed to jump to 300 million in less than a year. Every single Supernova has been a pirate longer than Luffy has, including Bonney. Most of the Supernovas achieved their record bounties by doing reasonably big things across several years, whereas Luffy jumped to 300 million by declaring fucking war on the World Government.

He'd been an active pirate for years before entering the Grand Line. Similarly, him defeating Crocodile and attacking Enies Lobby are considered absurd acts. The Enies Lobby incident in particular was seen as an insanely ballsy act that was completely unprecedented.

The point is you don't HAVE to be as crazy as Luffy in order to get a 300 million berry bounty. Because, as stated, every other Supernova has been A) an active pirate for longer than Luffy had been at that point (the length of time between Luffy leaving Foosha Village and his arrival in Sabaody was less than a year), and B) there was way, way more to do in their respective Blues. East Blue had one Don Krieg. West Blue had multiple highly notorious criminal organizations, basically doing the same shit Arlong was doing. North Blue was the original home of Germa 66. West Blue was not just the birthplace of Kid and Killer, but also a bunch of other notorious individuals, including those affiliated with Blackbeard, Foxy and the Revolutionary Army.

For better or for worse, his speech at the time of his death inspired countless individuals to turn to piracy as well. There are way more pirates now than there were during his lifetime.

Which isn't to say that there weren't some powerful pirates during his time. Whitebeard, Kaidou, Big Mom and Teech all got their starts during this time. One of the biggest errors Oda has done was putting ten characters in the crew. You have no time to developp them all properly and you are forced to divide them in three teams everytimes. And since Oda use the same fighting formula he also create shitons of useless NPC as opponents for each of them.

And you also have to add the unofficial party members to accompany them in their adventures who have sometimes more dialogues and presence because they are connected to the plot.

We're sort of at the point where Luffy's more or less maxed out his basic stats. He can fight on par with an Emperor. The issue is the stamina consumption. Luffy hasn't had a single boss fight in which he didn't need to rest partway since Fishman Island. He had to rest for ten minutes against Doflamingo, he had to rest against Katakuri and he got knocked out of action twice against Kaido. He had to rest against Saturn as well. Dude has shit sustain. That's his main weakness.

He's also missing some critical techniques. He still hasn't fully mastered haki yet. He's a physical match for Kaido, but his SP consumption and skill list are severely lacking.

It's fucking awful. He's virtually the only character that runs out of haki and stamina every 5 seconds.

It's sort of the consequence of his rubber body, and more or less goes all the way back to Gear 2 and 3. Zoro can't use skills like that, but Luffy can. Using those techniques allows Luffy to punch far above his immediate weight class, but he also has to give something up in exchange. He's basically doubling, tripling, quadrupling his stamina consumption in order to proportionately raise his stats and raise his damage cap. His body can take much more stress than the average person, and he's been taking advantage of that fact ever since Enies Lobby.

Yeah, but it's the same shit still and we're in the end game. There's no excuse to still have him as the only character fucked over by their own abilities 24/7 when you're fighting literal satan. It's retarded.

I'm sure he'll get over that eventually. But it's what let him beat Kaido. Zoro couldn't do it because he can't just immediately sacrifice SP for a stat boost. His body isn't rubber so he can't put that kind of stress on it.

Consider that Zoro doesn't have any such ability to just instantly triple his stats. He would have been killed by Kaido. Using techniques like this is the only reason Luffy's able to beat these kinds of enemies.

No other person even with awakening is the same. Sure, the first time it's fine if it's that rough. But it's just repeating the same thing every time and you get some scenario that makes no sense that the enemy doesn't instantly just kill luffy while he's incapacitated on the ground after using his ability.

No other person with awakening can do what he does. Having a rubber body allows him to put extreme stress on it and get greater returns. He was able to master CP9's speed techniques without training by using Gear 2 as a shortcut. It just hurts him all the more.

Remember that pain bubble that Kuma removed from him? The reason it was so huge was because of the sheer amount of stress Luffy is able to put himself through. The reason he can use moves like Gear 2 and Gear 3 at all without his heart exploding is because his heart is made out of rubber. But it puts a ton of pain and stress on him.

Also, generally, the reason Luffy doesn't get killed is because in most cases, Oda has enough sense to at least give Luffy an opportunity to hide somewhere safe in order to recover. This is what happened with Katakuri. Luffy didn't just lie on the ground doing nothing, he hid away. Usually, he has allies nearby who can help him.

he was already using gear 2 and 3 fine, then after a few uses of gear 4 he could also use that fine, it's just dumb to keep repeating the same thing ad infinitum when he's already gone through the same weakness twice

It's basically just Oda trying to balance out the ridiculous speed at which he improves. Otherwise it's just too convenient for him to nearly die from bloodloss after fighting Hody of all people to defeat Kaido in just a couple months. There has to be a consequence to such extreme forced improvement.
