Not even close. The pacing is a mess when you shove 7 volumes into 2 hours. Shoko is barely a character in the film. She's basically a plot device meant to incite pity. She has almost no chemistry with Shoya. Taki and Mitsuha have more chemistry and they only have one real face-to-face interaction. Shoko isn't the only character who lost nuance and complexity. I'm honestly baffled they still put Mashiba in the film when they completely gutted his character and had him do nothing. What's even the point?

Also I wonder what the monetary production is of a single cour vs a feature lenght movie. The movie runtime is technically shorter than 12 episodes, but usually the quality of animation is consistently higher which means animators get paid more I would think.
