Art degradation is a thing. Murata's artwork was the perfect mix of technically refined and stylized in Eyeshield 21. The cartooning in that one was perfectly done. Nowadays Murata just seems more inconsistent in general, sometimes even over-rendering a panel while looking too rushed in others. It eas sad seeing his recent Eyeshield 21 bonus chapter just look OK compared to how awesome every page of the original looked.

The moment someone pointed out that he looks nearly 1:1 with a sneaker design, I've never been able to look at him the same way again.

OPM is still great imo, Murata did his job adapting the early chapters but his services are no longer needed by mid-MA arc at least. Webcomic is simply the superior version from that point forward.

I've noticed that usually at least 50% of nip audiences will stick with something until the end if they liked the beginning of it. Western audiences aren't so loyal.

I don't understand why but Murata seems incapable of planning ahead. He can't look at the entire arc and much less at the coming subarc and figure out what he likes about it and how he wants to bring it to the audience. This results in him first drawing it, then realizing it doesn't meet the standard he himself set with his story, so he scraps it. The most egregious episode was when he reached a climax with saitama/garou's confrontation and the following week he scrapped it. It's been painful to follow his downfall

this would've been a great design for a shoe-related monster.

I'm completely convinced that if the NEET guy from the Deep Sea King arc were introduced in nu-OPM, they'd explain his backstory and show that he just wanted to be a hero himself, and the situation finally pushes him to be like Mumen Rider and other heroes instead of trying to trashtalk them.

I get tired of seeing this specific point considering the amount of male characters it happens with too, the truth is people only remember the female characters in the first place and not complete nobodies like PotBellee or the 15+ male ninjas that just survived for no reason and will be instantly forgotten again too. It's not "Waifus" so much as it's whoever they quite randomly feel like at the time + obvious fan favorites like PhoenixMan. Do-S fanatics here went apeshit when she died in the manga (especially in that brief period after Maiko was brought back) despite webcomic readers telling them for years it would happen.

Eyeshield story was kinda shit too. Not even the amazing art could keep me interested. Sad cuz I thought I just picked up another Slam Dunk.

No clue why would he think it's a good idea to lead an animation studio since he's a complete amateur. Every short he made have all the flaws that illustrators-doing-animation always run into.
